Fort McMurray, Alberta Fire

Alberta, but no, I havent any family there.
Well..maybe. I've a brother, think he lives that way..it's a big ol' province though. No idea really lol - we arent terribly close. Sometimes Alberta, sometimes BC, sometimes overseas.

We have 52 full time employees in Fort Mc, so far 6 of their homes have been destroyed, state of emergency declared, it appears that the evacuation has been successful in regards to lives.

Damn. Shame about the loss of homes, but good news on the front of lives.

My friend's daughter lives there. I am waiting to hear if she is okay.

Just an awful situation -- donating to Red Cross instead of donating to a casino tonight to help our fellow Canadians.

I'm happy that there have been zero deaths or injuries but these people are enduring a terrible disaster. The city could very well be burned down. There's no rain in sight to help douse the blaze. The scenes of cars driving though the blaze are terrifying. The people there are resilient and will overcome this but this is a horrible natural disaster.

Alberta has had a history of brush/forest fires, sadly. 5 years ago there was a similar situation in Slave Lake.
