They do not quote versus from bibles.
Go back a few years and see the bombings from for example that murdered innocent woman and children in name of religion in UK and Ireland. Or does that not count. And with hostilities not far away and with chances of a closed border or united Ireland there is a good chance of trouble breaking out again. Or does that not count either.
I'm sorry, but I have to chime in.
I've seen people making comparisons between the IRA and ISIS all over the internet and it's just about getting on my tits because it shows nothing but ignorance!
The RA were not carrying out these acts in the name of religion, whereas it appears to be the case with ISIS. The RA's attacks were coordinated and not random attacks on innocent civilians. They did not intentionally target civilians, but the British security forces.
If you are not aware (Please also no-one think I'm defending violence), when the IRA were coordinating their attacks on infrastructure or security forces, they at least had the conscience to inform the Brits so every effort could be made to avoid innocent people being hurt or injured.
There has been one time I can recall the IRA deliberately targeting civilians and this was the tragic Kingsmill Massacre, when they stopped a minibus of 11 Protestant men, lined them up and shot them. You'll often hear about it in the news. But what you won't hear is why this attack happened. The night before the UVF went into the homes of 6 catholic men and shot them dead, it was known as the Reavey and O'Dowd killings.
Attacks by loyalist terrorist organizations were religious though, killing Irish people for no other reason than they were Catholic. These killings were going on long before the troubles even started, with Catholic people being burnt out of their estates and forced to live elsewhere.
Before the troubles, if you were a Catholic, you weren't allowed jobs. Housing was prioritized towards Protestants and there was just general discrimination against Catholics here because of Religion. It is this religious bigotry and sectarianism that the IRA were fighting against. For equality. So actually quiet the opposite of "in the name of religion".
The IRA have always been open to dialogue, i don't ever think we'll see the same for ISIS.
Just because the RA were Christians it doesn't mean they were fighting in the name of it, so those Parallels don't exist between the Ra and ISIS.
You would never hear about how the RA planted bombs at a Teenie Boppers concert.
Again, I do not tolerate violence of any kind and I do not condone any of the acts of atrocity carried out by the Ra.
