I appreciate being informed as much as the next guy, but for the same reason there is more than one news channel, I would really like to hear someone else's view of the election, what the population thinks about the US election and its impact on the rest of the world. Not trying to diss anyone, and I hope they will not try to diss me, but for crying out loud, if you post more than a couple of times in this thread, consistently and on a daily basis, then you are probably overdoing it and need to give someone else a chance to get a word in edgewise. So there's my rant..............tear me apart! ;)

IMO anyone and everyone should be allowed to post what they want, when they want and how often they want as long is it's related to the forum that they are posting in and not a personal attack.

My only problem is when others try to police a public forum when it's not really needed or the right thing to do as it relates to politics because it's always going to be wild and crazy.

We are all adults and know how to act and I do my best to not judge others because my life experences, but what I do value most is the right to speak my mind as well as have a healthy debate over some issues and not be harrassed or dictated to about it.

Nobody that I've ever seen on this forum since I've been here has been 100% right on everything they have posted and we all have a bad day and need to step back and take a breath sometimes.

I know the only reason I came here (because I've never posted outside this political forum) was because I saw a few folks that had some good insight as to what was going on with our ecomony and had similar views to mine, but that did not last long once others (who knows that I do not like them and they do not like me) tried to stir up crap that happened in 2003!

I'm not one to take things personal that happens over the internet and although it's not my intention to stir up crap with anyone that does not influence my life one way or the other.

Anyway I wish you all Peace, Love and Soooooul!

Is there such a thing as 100% "right" when it comes to politics? I've always held the belief that politics is really nothing more than personal opinion, and perception of issues and candidates. In other words, there really is no right or wrong opinion. And that is why I hate to see any infighting happen here over that. If it's an issue where there is no grey area...totally black and white...I'll debate til the cows come home. But not politics. Too volatile, and too much open to interpretation.

Robin, I included the last sentence of your post only to say....that's more like it. I'm not one into posting peace and love, lol...but I prefer that tone over you being confrontational and dismissive.

Suze, thanks so much for that post. That was great. I would love to jump into some of the discussion, but don't for three reasons. One being that I'm Canadian and don't really feel comfortable debating such a heated topic that doesn't directly involve me. I definitely have my opinions, but am not sure if it's my place to state them. Second, again...politics being as explosive as it is...sometimes abstinence is the better route for me.

And third, as Gamtrak stated, there are some very well informed, and very intelligent posters here, who have a strong grasp of the current issues surrounding the upcoming election. I am fairly intelligent, and understand most of what is being discussed, but sometimes when it veers into past issues, or economics, I feel lost. Makes me wish I had taken even a basic economics course in school. Sometimes even when I watch CNN and listen to the discussion re: the current crisis, I am totally lost. And that's not a feeling I enjoy at all.

Anyway, for the most part, I enjoy reading everyone's posts here, and taking it all in.

Now....I wanna know when Spearmaster is gonna voice an opinion? He may be in Bangkok, but I'd love to hear his take on the candidates and issues.

I am very much into the Presidential race because I have spent a great deal of time in the U.S. with Florida being my home away from home.
But like Pinababy stated, politics can get very explosive at the best of times and I try my best to refrain from any debates that include politics and religion. Everyone has the right to voice their opinion, and that is just what it is...an Opinion....not the gospel.
Thank you Suze for putting it out there in the open about getting varying different opinions as that is what makes it more interesting.
I might add that I don't particularly care for either of the candidates running for the Presidency but it was the peoples choice that put them in the running. One can only hope that when the final vote is counted, that the best person to get the job done will be sitting in the White House with a major migraine :D

Why did I know that was coming... :) I am not about to jump into a political debate because I don't have the time to keep up with it, as much as I would love to.

Suffice it to say that I believe the race has already been decided and the remaining days are just a countdown.

Good statement there Spear, I too have said this many times already since June and whether it be for the same reasons as you may think or not, it is true...but the powers that be still think it a nice sentiment to let the sheeple still believe that they have a voice and their votes still do count !!

That's one conspiracy theory Rob, that I CAN somewhat wrap my head around. It's like the predetermined bonus rounds on slots. It already knows what your payout is gonna be, the rest is just window dressing, lol.

Get out and vote

I'm not going into the politics of the day.

But as far as I am concerned you lose your right to complain about the government if you do not vote.

People, including some of your relatives, have died for the right to vote.

Some of your relatives have died for people in other countries to vote.

Be informed, and treasure something that so many folks do not have...free elections in a democratic country.

If you do not vote, you get what you deserve.

Who said they haven't/aren't going to vote?

I do agree with every point you made

....it's also pretty sad that women didn't even have an option of voting until 1920.

I still think people should get out there and vote if it's not a hassle for them, though I don't necessarily buy into the rhetoric of "dying to give you the right to vote".

Quite frankly, I think our boys and girls are dying for the right to give others freedom, and perhaps to protect our freedom, and a vote is just one small part of that freedom.

One exercises their vote when they feel they want to make their voice heard. It is a valuable right, too. But I don't always feel the need to make my voice heard, and it thus follows that I don't always feel the need to vote.

But I don't always feel the need to make my voice heard

Since when Spear?

Sorry, couldn't resist. I am so happy you are back here, and am looking forward to some of your level headed and unbiased critique of issues that arise.

LMAO.....yeah I guess that comes with the territory as well. You're not narrow minded at all. Bullheaded/stubborn....absolutely!! But then, it takes one to know one doesn't it? :p

There are a few young girls that I work with who told me they are voting for MCain but they will probably not vote because they know that Obama will take NY. They think those three votes won't matter.

I expressed to them how it is a privelidge to vote. At the very least it calculates how many Republicans and Democrats are in a certain state.

I also told them that there are candidates that will get a fraction of the vote and have no chance to win. But I for one want to know how many people vote for which party. I find it interesting.

good for you deb:thumbsup:like someone else said if you dont vote then you really cant bitch about who is elected..i have always been a registered republican, but that doesnt mean i wouldnt cross party lines if it was in the best interest of the nation.

Spear,

Can you still cast a vote in Hong Kong? Come back in 2017 and vote in the first Chief Executive election by universal franchise.

Unfortunately, Immigration screwed up my status by only storing records from 2000 onwards - as I could not prove I had entered the territory between July 1997 and July 2000 (my old passport was lost), I don't currently have ROA status. I am looking to re-establish that by proving my right another way but that entails going back to the US, probably Washington DC, and requesting a copy of my parents' status in the US at the time I was born.

However, I am still RTL, which allows me to come and go freely, live in HK, or do anything except vote or hold a HKSAR passport.
