I get them everday in my email box and now we have the shoe peddler from China back on the forums and what so bad is he is peddling his crap in the Haiti section, some people have no morals and just piss me off:mad:.................laurie

To make matters worse, if you look at the four names in blue (Casinomeister, Webzcas, maxd, and Simmo!) they're all in Europe.

I really think CM needs to add 2 additional moderators that are in North America so that spammers can be dealt with when it's the middle of the night for Europe.

I have a habit of rising pretty early -- earlier today than usual  -- so often the window of moderatorlessness here at CM isn't very large. It looks like I was able to clean up after our shoe spammer a couple hours after they'd done their filthy little business.

That may be true Max, but when it's 3am in England, it's 10pm on the East Coast and 7pm here.

This is prime time in North America, and the Eastern Time Zone has more computers connected to the internet than any other time zone in the world.

2-3 hours may not seem long, but a hacker or spammer can do a LOT of damage with far less time.

At least one N.A. based mod should be considered. I nominate bernynhel.

I hear ya ... but today's was one of the worse spam attacks I've seen in a while and that was cleaned up in 20 minutes or so.

I'm not saying a North American moderator is a bad idea, just that it's not like the house is gonna burn down without one.

I'm flattered and would be happy to help CM in any way I can but, and this may shock some people, I have, in the not too distant past, been known to adopt a certain tone that could be interpreted by some people, people whose sensitivities might just be a little more heightened than that of any possible variety of random, flattened roadkill, as less than what might be considered ideally suited, diplomatically speaking, for the purposes of "moderator" as it is usually and customarily defined in the majority the modern societies which have discontinued the practice of cannibalism as a means of asserting authority.

But if you really, really need me for something, in a pinch, just whistle. You do know how to whistle, don't you? That's right...just pucker up and blow.

I've never claimed to be a nice guy.
Just take a look at the user tag under my name ;)

I just haven't been here long enough for my services as a mod to be considered.

Besides, diplomacy skills aren't needed for killing spammers. :D

What is that chart? A CM banned user log? Cuz if it is, I could do that. That's not moderatin' that's exterminatin'!

Hey! Anyone know where the Chinese sneaker guy's post went? I was waiting for him to get back to me with a post with a quote for some sneakers I was asking about.

We should also watch out for the bogus clothing collectors cashing in on the Haiti crisis, as they have with previous crises. They post bags through the letterbox for us to fill with unwanted clothing, and sometimes ask for broken gold and silver, pretending it is all going towards the relief efforts, or in the case of scrap precious metals, being sold to raise funds for the relief effort. In practice, the clothing is SOLD FOR PROFIT to the hapless victims of the various crises, and money from broken gold and silver never even reaches them. They have mostly been asking for clothing for eastern Europe, but have then been SELLING it for PROFIT, not using it for aid. Worse, these scammers take away potential donations of goods and money from genuine charities.

This is true Vinyl, i got involved with this charity" soles4souls", when i was first approached by a neighbor down the road during the Katrina crisis, Its more of a neighborhood thing we are doing now and someone will be by from the local branch to pick them up, theres just so many ways of giving, cash is always good but people need clothes and shoes , second to food, shelter and medical aid, which should always come first imo..................laurie

The US President(s) made it very clear last night in a speech that only cash should be donated.
Do not, under any circumstances, send anything else.

In addition it was also mentioned that your cash should only be given to registered non-profit organizations that were ALREADY active in Haiti BEFORE the crisis began.

(Will be reposted in the proper thread)

My Israeli cousin's (Steve and Jeremy) volunteering got their heavy equipment business airlifted there three days ago. Jeremy's been running a 170 ton, all terrain crane 20 hours on and 4 off since he got there. I'm on call if they need another hydraulics mechanic. I'll go. But these guys are tough and they can't believe what they're seeing - and they've been through 3 wars as tankers! In tanks. In the fkn desert! (Military service is compulsory for all non-Arab Israeli citizens whether after high school or after college - before you are allowed to begin a civilian career - 3 years for men, 3 years for women in combat positions and specialists, 2 years for all other women. Druze men are also conscripted. Many Bedouins have enlisted due to a long-standing government policy of encouragement. Christian and Muslim Arab enlistment has been minute. After serving 2 or 3 years, all personnel are retained in their positions and ranks as reservists, also compulsory, until age 49, and may serve 1 month per year and be called to active duty immediately for any action. I came this >I-I< close to being sent there when I was 16) Let's all count our blessings.
