Got this e-mail from a friend about the P.M. J.Gillard making these comments. Can someone from Australia confirm this?

Prime Minister Julia Gillard - Australia

Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia, as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks.

Separately, Gillard angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying she supported spy agencies monitoring the nation's mosques. Quote:

'IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT... Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians.'

'This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom.'

'We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language!'

'Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.'

'We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us.'

'This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great Australian freedom, 'THE RIGHT TO LEAVE'.'

'If you aren't happy here then LEAVE. We didn't force you to come here. You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted.'

Someone said something very similar though and I say more power to them. (Costello) We use to be able to say things like that here also.

Interview with Tony Jones
Lateline

Tuesday, 23 August 2005
10.40 pm

SUBJECTS: Australian values, Muslim clerics, anti-Americanism, Telstra

TONY JONES:

Peter Costello thanks for joining us.

TREASURER:

Good to be with you, Tony.

TONY JONES:

Now, over the past 24 hours you've been repeating the notion that migrants, evidently Islamic migrants, who don't like Australia, or Australian values, should think of packing up and moving to another country. Is that a fair assessment?

TREASURER:

What I've said is that this is a country, which is founded on a democracy. According to our Constitution, we have a secular state. Our laws are made by the Australian Parliament. If those are not your values, if you want a country which has Sharia law or a theocratic state, then Australia is not for you. This is not the kind of country where you would feel comfortable if you were opposed to democracy, parliamentary law, independent courts and so I would say to people who don't feel comfortable with those values there might be other countries where they'd feel more comfortable with their own values or beliefs.

TONY JONES:

It sounds like you're inviting Muslims who don't want to integrate to go to another country. Is it as simple as that?

TREASURER:

No. I'm saying if you are thinking of coming to Australia, you ought to know what Australian values are.

TONY JONES:

But what about if you're already here and you don't want to integrate?

TREASURER:

Well, I'll come to that in a moment. But there are some clerics who have been quoted as saying they recognise two laws. They recognise Australian law and Sharia law. There's only one law in Australia, it's the Australian law. For those coming to Australia, I think we ought to be very clear about that. We expect them to recognise only one law and to observe it.

Fake or not, I'm happy to see a few people brave enough to admit they support this point of view.

I like this quote: "I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture."

Many things in Canada have changed for that reason.

I'm not really religious, if you wanted to put a label on me I guess you could go with atheist, but I don't get offended when others are. I call Christmas by it's name and celebrate the holiday with a turkey supper, gifts, family, etc. I don't get offended hearing people pray, and I couldn't care less which god they are praying to.

I do get offended when our schools have to cut out every mention of Christmas, just because some people don't celebrate it in the "traditional" way. Do those people go stand outside their workplace, and send their kids to stand outside the school during Christmas holidays? No, they probably enjoy the time off. To do that and then say you're offended by the name and history of the holiday is just plain rude.

If you like your culture, values, and religion so much, but don't like your native country for other reasons (maybe it's a dangerous place to live) then fix what you don't like. You can't move to another country and force the people there to change for you, just because you like something about their country.

Nothing will ever change in (insert country name) if everyone who feels things need to change, just move away instead of trying to do something about it.

You can't move to another country and force the people there to change for you, just because you like something about their country.
You can if you're white, Christian, European, have superior fire power, and are certain Gawd and Manifest Destiny are on your side.

I have got emails like that sent to me many of times over the years and they always say Australia. Everybody I know or talk to thinks the government there is the best for having the balls to say things like that. Oh well I am sure its a great place and there government still has more balls then mine.:D
