Yeah, getting those megahits (over 10 000x) on any slot is so unlikely that chasing them is almost pointless.
Better to just like you say, try one or two features every now and then and hope for that one in a billion bonus.

In my experience its 250-400 spins. I normally wait about 500 spins, then get 2 within 50, then wait again !
