Cancer is quite hard to find accurate figures, for example, one study said
The number of cancer patients starting treatment between April and July 2020 in the UK has reduced by 26% (31 000) compared with the same period in 2019, according to figures analysed by Cancer Research UK.
However, it was widely reported that in April they had fell by 60%, partly due to staff shortages and staff being moved to cover Covid wards. If the overall drop was 26% in 4 months, but the first of those months was 60%, then months 2-4 must have been lower than 26%, possibly down to around 10%. That isn't a massive drop, and can be explained in part by people not going to their GP as they were too scared to go out, rather than any failure by the NHS.
I don't think it's something anyone can answer with confidence at this stage though, and I think it will be years before we can say what was right and what was wrong with whats happened.
Looks pretty certain now that the plans for Christmas for England will be staying in place, but Scotland in particular might see some changes.
