Claverham 'gimp suit' man terrifies woman in village

I am sorry but the thread title does not seem to be right.

Gimp suits are not stereo-typically worn by Gay people. They are worn by straight people as well.

So I find this very offensive.

agreed. Gimp suits are mostly a penchant for the bdsm community, straight, gay or otherwise.
While I undeerstand the 'joke', by all accounts, the man is likely straight, being male and the victim a woman so the title doesn't seem to fit the story and could be read as derogatory

Reading the story I find it unbelievable as how did she have the time to take a photo, if that was me I would be running for my life :eek2:
I saw a FB post not long back, these boys - teens, w/e, 'saved' a dog stuck in a reservoir and filmed it and were applauded for their heroics
All I could think was, staged as ef, rotten lil bastiches probably chucked it in to 'rescue' it because who the frick stops to pull out their camera for likes - id have dived head in to get it out

From out of the darkness the gimp charged at me.. he kept touching his groin, grunting and breathing heavily..
gosling lol.gif

Update, the woman has released another statement about the incident.
Reporters asking if the woman was ok, got this answer.

Jokes aside, its probably some creep getting off on being seen and "humiliated".
Usually the ones wearing the suits are not the dominant ones, if i remember my fetishes correctly. =)

Yes, indeed but if in the UK you'll know I'm referring to the Little Britain comedy sketch where Dafydd dresses up in them and wanders around the village. And I did say it's NOT a Dafydd….

Shockingly sexual preference-assumptive. :eek2:
He may have been scaring the women out of the area first...

I could not care less if your post was even meant for a bit of fun, at the end of the day, your title was totally out of order and you are basically making fun of people who are gay, by referencing it and linking Gimp Suits to Gay people. It is irrelevant that you said the word Dafydd in your post as well.

So if it is acceptable on this forum for staff members and members alike to make these type of derogatory posts and joke about gay people, then it is a forum I do not want to partake in.

I didn't take it that way - that Dunover was making fun of gay people. He was making fun of people wearing gimp suits - and sometime those dudes are gay. Look at American Horror Story season 1. That's what sprung to mind when I saw the article - that and Pulp Fiction. No one is making fun of gay people in this thread - just making fun of people wearing gimp suits who run around scaring people.

But again that is beside the point how you read it. People who are gay will see it differently. That is the problem when there is this type of thread created. What it does is it makes people question why on earth would they even name a thread in such a way. Does that person have a problem with gay people etc etc.

It looks like you are defending dunover. Which of course would be the case, but you also have to look at it from another perspective like I pointed out to you. Yes comedians make fun and joke about all type of things and people and what not. But that is beside the point. The point is, this is not a joking matter. You can not Link an Item of clothing to a specific population who are gay just because it appeared in a UK tv show many many many years ago. If you also must know the UK humour has changed a lot since Little Britain, and this day and age a lot of comedians tries to stay well clear about joking about sexuality.

In an ideal world, sexual orientation should never ever matter. That has moved on a lot over the years and Gay Marriage has also became more common in more countries. But still their is a lot of hate towards gay people even in the UK and all other countries. Because people still think it is not right. So I really do ask you to think again about your stance on the title. And maybe change it and edit the OP.

Thanks!

Look - for the last time the thread title refers to the classic BBC comedy sketches that UK posters would almost certainly have seen a few years ago. The focus was the outrageous fetish stuff Dafydd used to wear about the village to shock people. So we have a news article about a village and a man wearing a gimp suit to shock. Hence the comparison. You will also notice the question mark after the thread title because if this character is ever apprehended, he may or may not turn out to be gay.

The thread was in The Attic, where weird and arcane stuff goes. Yeah, perhaps I should have known that the subject matter would invoke the fury of those whom seek the slightest hint of any prejudice they perceive and will be eager to scream accusations from the rooftops. The thread was never intended that way and most people spotted that and replied in the same spirit with their own odd comments.

If we all have to pander to the views of the few and walk on eggshells continuously, the world will end up with less laughs and smiles than a pox doctor's waiting room. :(

As a gay person I was a little surprised when I opened the thread and the story was about the Somerset man I had read yesterday, I am no snowflake I grew up in an era of the 80s and 90s, I even still watch On The Buses and other comedies that are now frowned upon, it's probably a comment I may even have made myself had I had a clear head today, but we no longer live in an era where you can say what you like we are now in an era where anyone can be offended and sadly even alluding to a stalking man being gay is frowned upon.

Perhaps in the interests of all concerned it maybe be best to close this thread or even delete it and move on before it escalates.

What I would say is don't let being gay mean people cannot have a joke DreamRJ most humour is aimed at a specific part of a person and gay people can be a joke as much as a mother in law or whoever let's not lose our sense of humour we all have a right to be a source of humour if it is done right.

That's what I thought when I saw the title and read the article and then thought God Damn I hope this doesn't turn into something similar to the creepy clown sightings.

But again that is beside the point. It appears I am actually just banging my head against a wall here in getting my point across. Yes you kinda partially if what a little tiny bit acknowledge that you should have worded it differently.

Just because it is in the attic it also makes no difference where it is. Where ever it is, it is still in a public forum for anyone to find and see. Regardless so again, that is not even an excuse or explanation that brushes with me I am afraid. I see it in a totally different way. And believe me I am probably not alone either.

We all know that I have been open in this forum in the past and members know about me. So be it, if they do not like certain sexual orientated people, then that is beside the point. They should not be allowed to even attempt to make fun of or link to any type of derogatory content or posts that could and can be seen as an attack towards those group of people. Enough said. I will not back down on this. As I said, I am totally offended by your OP and also now the way you are trying to give explanations for it is also further angering and upsetting me further. There is no excuse for it.

I agree, the thread needs to be deleted!

There is no law against being offended and there should never be one. Why should being gay mean that you cannot be a subject for any sort of humourous comments, since when did us gay people become so upset by anything comedians throughout the last 40 years have used gay, size, gender etc for humour, I really do wish sometimes we had not left the 90s no wonder so many people are depressed when all they do is look for offence. I am saying this as a gay person with gay friends etc etc.

If this kind of post would come from someone else than Dunover then it probably would get a different kind of vibe for me at least. But Dunover isn't what you'd call an open-minded person :P Hope I'm wrong though! But it's just my opinion.

I’ll probably get shot down for this but really is there any need to make such a drama out of this thread? We are mostly grown ups on this site , some threads we will like and some we won’t , so if it’s a thread we don’t like just ignore and move on.
Wasn’t the actor who played the character in Little Britain gay? If he can laugh at it I’m sure we can all put our propensity to be offended to the side and either chuckle or move on.
Some people get offended by the slightest things these days, in NI last week we discovered that a civil servant was offended by having to walk past a portrait of the queen every day and needed to be given £10,000 to ease his pain.......

I do never ever look for offence and it is the context I look at rather than anything else. And the method and way the first post and title was made was totally out of line. You just can not for any reason link a recent event that occurred with a Straight man wearing a Gimp suit, and link it to a old TV show with a Gay Character. It is just not right. That is the context that is wrong. I will not also go into more details as to why I am also offended, But it is not the first time me and Dunover has had disagreements about this subject matter either. I recall a thread about a year and half ago that we got into a debate about, as it was about what kids are exposed to in school and elsewhere and what right a parent has about what a kid learns etc etc. That thread if I recall did get closed eventually as it went totally overboard. So hence it will now happen to this one, and so it should too.

But all I will say is this, we know when someone does not like certain people based on sex/religion/race sometimes they try to hide it or mask it, or try and joke about those groups of people. At the end of the day most people who do those type of joke posts usually means they mean what they are saying when they say those jokes in their posts. That is why the context again is important. It is not about looking for offence it is all about reading between the lines...................

As much as I've tried and I mean really tried to like Dream he just cannot help overreacting to pretty much everything, maybe he can't help it and all of it is innocent nature.

I've never know a more apt fitting for the "Mountain out of a mole hill" saying. C'mon Dream just enjoy the banter and the nonsense, regardless of the subject matter, the way it is meant and do not take offence to every single thing, nothing is personal towards you and never has been.

FWIW, I will be out in my shiny red one on Friday night :)

Not in this manner I hope:
"From out of the darkness the gimp charged at me.. he kept touching his groin, grunting and breathing heavily.."

I never see it as personal towards me, this thread title and whole way he went about it came across to me and maybe others in a derogatory way towards that group of people who are gay. Nothing more nothing less. Yes I also agree that not all gay people will get offended by it. But I feel a vast majority of them will do. Just like when people say racist remarks and hatred towards religions etc etc. Yes the world sucks that we always now have to be very careful in what we say. I to am also very careful in what I say too so I do not offend people. When I do I always say I am sorry straight away as soon as I realised I did upset them or offend them. But I very very rarely offend anyone anyway. I am a out going guy and I speak my mind. People on here and anywhere else and in person who know me might like me or hate me.

That is life, I can not and do not care if people like/love or hate me. But if I see something I do seem wrong I will speak out about it. That is for sure as you and a lot of members on here know about my posting history :D

And @Jono777 - too finally Add, you have now also just been a bit negative towards me as a person. which is a personal attack. That is not cool. Just saying. :D

I rest my case.

I do try and get on with everyone, seems I am going to fail on this one.

Being negative towards someone is not a personal attack. If we all agreed on everything then we would be automatons.

I receive negative or disagreeing comments towards me in general all the time, never do I let them get to me.

FWIW, I have read your posts for as long as you have been a member and actually agreed with a lot you say, IIRC I also defended you in a age old thread where the banter got a bit OTT ;) - Nothing personal, in fact more likely to be the opposite.

I actually get offended by being told I am part of the LBGT!? Why because I like blokes do I have to be in this club I am not Lesbian, Bi Sexual or Transgender but apparently I am automatically enrolled. I get offended when someone at work handily points out it is Pride weekend (as if that means I have attend). No one should be off limits from being offended whether they are gay, black, fat, short whatever it seems once you are put into a group (ie LBGT, BAME, etc etc) this suddenly means you suddenly protected from anyone's comments. It is these groups that social media has created that cause the issues and have caused society to become scared of it's own shadow.

I agree with what you have said. In an ideal world sexuality/race/religion should not define us or put us into a group etc etc. But it is the way it is at the current time. The world and other countries still have their own morals and views/laws about such groups of people and that is indeed what is the cause of war in so many countries.

The world has changed but there is still some generations and some people that pass down those same views to newer generations. It will take a very very long time for future generations to totally eradicate it, then one day just maybe those groups should never even need to exist, as everyone would be seen as equal regardless of sex/race/religion :)

No more headlines in papers about actors coming out as gay. No more headlines about people being racist. No more headlines about people showing hatred towards any type of religion. Now that is a world I would love to live in right now. But sadly we will never see that happen unfortunately. :p

I know this my best friend is from asia he is married to an Englishman they cannot live in any asian country as it is illegal they cannot live in UK as they haven't been married long enough and he is not an EU citizen, he gets stopped at airports all the time and gets double checked. There is only one country in the world they can actually live together in so I know all the issues of gay marriage and countries that are anti gay, but putting people into groups does not help either, I mean how patronising is it to lump black people and anyone else who isn't white into a group called BAME for example, who asked if these people want to be known as BAME?

Sighs..... loudly.... so much I could say but won't. However it started off as six of one half a dozen of other. Now war and peace has been written its tipped it slightly.

But as for Jono aww how could you possibly receive negative comments when you are so.... well soo Jono lol :cheerleader: I always agree with you... not ...ha ha.

I'm just jesting you are lovely. Please dont write 85 volumes of stuff about me.

I know and as I said, I agree with you. But it is how it is. We have to live with it. We can not make them stop putting us all into these groups can we? But at the end of the day the LGBT was a movement that has helped change the views about gay people. Yes it should never have even been needed. but it was.

Let us also not forget, gay people existed as far back as ever. Even in roman times etc etc. The world is just the way it is currently. It will change again within time, it always does as generations change things etc etc. That is normally how it works :)

Tbh, I don't actually remember Daffyd ever wearing a gimp suit.
He was more usually wearing pvc shorts and vest, that's hardly a gimp suit.
So the original title didn't make that much sense anyway.

Yeah I used to watch Little Britain too. I think it was one of those tight bike suits I recall him wearing. That could be mistaken for a Gimp suit I suppose though :P

Yeah I already read that headline today :P but in an ideal world he should never ever have been persecuted in the first place. But it is what it is, times have changed thankfully. But still there is people who still have hatred towards gay people.

He should be recognised for his work he did working on the enigma machine rather than for his sexuality and being sent to prison for it!

''It's now very common to hear people say, 'I'm rather offended by that.' As if that gives them certain rights. It's actually nothing more... than a whine. 'I find that offensive.' It has no meaning; it has no purpose; it has no reason to be respected as a phrase. 'I am offended by that.' Well, so fucking what."

A quote by Stephen Fry.

Painful reading this thread has been, pretty much 3 pages of whining.

People automatically assume something to be offensive without taking into consideration the context or personality of the protagonist. Weird.

Seriously now this thread has turned into how people are offending gays and how gays get treated.

Really this bloody world and country is getting far to PC. Dream seriously you need to relax have fun and maybe realise just once not everything is about you and not everyone that disagrees with you hates you.

People wouldn't have a damn clue who on this forum is gay or straight. The problem with some gay people is they keep banging on about the fact they are gay. Why i never know does it really matter. Noone really cares what sexual preference members have on here.

But if it is getting to the stage you can not have a joke because it offends someone then sorry but the fault is with the person who gets offended at just about anything.

I have been called many things in my life i do not let it get to me. Certainly don't make a song and dance about it and that is in real life not a forum.
Many a time i have had a lot of abuse and bigoted stuff directed to me. Why let it bother you. You just get on with it. If someone on here was saying Dream is such and such and being offensive towards you then it is a different matter. If not and it is a joke you do not particularly like tut away to yourself then move on and forget you read it. Making a song and dance and more out of things than were meant is not healthy.
