Well its hard for me to argue against that when you are reading from some sort of ancient language that only you understand.
So i guess you can keep that pouch of ducats.

They returned roughly 4 years later in 1714 as the next records show and stayed again for some time. So, those warriors must have really liked it in my village. :)

Yep, Kroffe was on the point! :)

How about a pic from you in your early years? :)

I did use to have a school pic taken every so often, they are somewhere at my parents, the haircut of my early youth was also mainly the bowl cut fringe :eek2:

something quite emotional looking at old photos now that I'm approaching the late 40's, I wonder what happened to your fellow pupils [ for want of a better word ] in your photo. Did everyone move to germany from your village?

I was watching a vid on youtube about the transylvania area and it said Prince charles owns two homes there:

"Close to the village of Viscri, amongst the wildflower meadows and rolling forested hills of Zalán Valley, Prince Charles’s retreat comprises of a cluster of carefully restored cottages in which guest rooms are decorated with antiques, crafts and embroidered textiles that remain true to their Transylvanian roots. "

I find the history of europe fascinating, the medieval and middle ages especially, the habsburg empire etc.., I was meaning to ask the other day when the topic came up, did you use to venture into the forests in transylvania, what about the wolves and bears, any close encounters?

All but one emigrated to Germany, one is still in the village (top row, first from the left). Some carried on from Germany including me. The girl to the right of the pastor is in Greece; the girl in the top row, first from the left is in the US; the boy in the first row, second from the left is in France. The rest are all still in Germany.

We are going to have another reunion in June 2021 in Germany.

There were roughly 1,200 Germans in the village, today they are about 60 left, average age probably over 75.

Of course, we ventured into the forests and mountains. :) Only saw bears from a distance, maybe 50 or 60 yards. Encountered wolves more often. The latter is easy to chase away though except during winter time when they were starving.

Never had to deal directly with a bear so I don't know but the "golden rule" was when worst comes to worst lie down and pretend to be dead. :)

This is where I spent most days in winter. Skiing in Poiana Brasov. Don't have my own pics, so this is from Google. Summer time it was mostly Bucegi Mountains.
