Last year we had record snow - winter came early, before the leaves even fell off the trees we got almost 3 feet of snow dumped on us - and it just kept coming. There was so much snow they didn't know where to put it after plowing the streets.

The year before that, we actually tied with some place in Siberia one day as the coldest place on the planet. Fortunately I had surgery that year and missed most of the winter wrapped in my electric blanket in a drug induced haze.

We've been lucky this year, the winter has been pretty mild up until a couple of days ago. Last night it dropped to -41C - which is actually almost the same in Fahrenheit if I remember correctly. The battery in Ray's work van froze to death and my dog is only allowed to go out long enough for a quick trip to the bathroom.

Anyhow it's not unusual, I think it just feels worse because we've had it easy so far this year. I miss Phoenix. :(

Jeeeeze!
I'm in Czech right now, there's snow everywhere and it's -5C... and I though it was cold here...! :eek2:

I LOVE my electric blankie!!! I'm trying to figure out how to attach it to a battery pack (or a superlong extension cord) so I can just wear it all the time! ;)

As I said, this is what the weather is like here usually, but it just hits a lot harder when last week it was 35 degrees warmer. Another thing is here it's a little extra cold with the 'wind chill' - usually drops the temp down another 10 degrees or so. If I could afford it, I'd be flying south for the winter with the birdies.

Oh well, it won't last forever, and at least I have a warm place to live and I don't have to go out in it really - I really feel sorry for the homeless people this time of year, the shelters are full to bursting.

I am not complaining but it's like 50 degrees here and I am FREEZING..us desert folk aren't used to this! Plus I am sick and with the heat on 80 I am freezing to death...I don't envy you Commander.

lol, I remember what it was like living in the desert! When I first went down there I was dying from the heat, I had my A/C set at 70....a year later when it dropped below 80 I'd be turning on the furnace.

BTW, Ray asked me the other day, "Who's that chick on Facebook who keeps calling you Commander?" lol - I said, "Don't worry about her, she's nuts." :P

This time last year.
And only 6 inches so far this year Thank God.

After record snows last winter, this winter has been balmy in comparison.

We don't get tons of snow normally in the Philadelphia area but when we do get a snowstorm, the markets look like Armageddon is coming! No bread or milk in stock, shelves are bare.

Last year the snow was non-stop. Got to the point when the forecaster said 4"-6", we brushed it off as if we may get flurries!

I actually miss it.:(

Yup..here in Ontario also we've hit freezer hell. Woke up to -42 this morning but on the lighter note, its going to warm up considerably this afternoon to
-41 so we're pretty lucky I guess:eek:. Car sputtered to life after 5 min of trying. Even had it in the garage plugged in. News said skin will freeze in less than 5 min. I don't think my thermostat can go any higher.

Up to 2 days ago we've been spoiled as well with the mild temps. Not as much snow as per the norm and I think along with la nina this could be the reason. On the flipside, by the weekend we're looking at -3 !!.

I just can't compete with that coldness!

I live in a stone building without very much insulation. This place hasn't been upgraded since the Mandate. I live in Tel Aviv, near the beach- high ceilings. Its just cold inside. Add that to the rainy season? It gets really chilly in here at home! I hide under blankets and in front of space heaters constantly.

But, seriously....

God Bless Electric Blankets.

OMG.... all of you are freezing me to death! Old Attachment (Invalid)

My old Southern bones would crack. Thought I'd die last winter when we had snow flurries every week and our first white Xmas in my lifetime.... LOL

Stay warm folks! I'm going to wrap up in a Snuggie - if I can get it away from my cats, that is....

Well I had to go out and romp around outside today and I have to say that a sinus infection is not fun when it's cold - it's like having an 8 inch icepick driven up your nostril into your brain every time you breathe in. ouch.

Good news is that hopefully this cold weather will only be around for another week, then it possibly will get above freezing again. So for the rest of you dealing with the cold, hang in there!

Im probably missing the point of this thread totally *blush*

but that what i thought honestly.. lol! Ok, I've had a few - its burbon o clock
