Hi, I do fully realise this question may seem daft, but as a newbie to playing slots i had to ask/clarify...

Is there any skill involved in playing slots??

You see, i am more of a roulette, blackjack and baccarat player, where there are certain tactics & strategies you can apply in your quest to win.

But with slots, are there any strategies in winning on them or is it simply put X amount of money in your account, then just spin, spin, spin?? (and hope for a win)

If this is the case, i still don't mind playing on them, it would just make things a lot clearer for me on playing on slots.

Also, what should i look for in a slot?? (i.e. RTP etc.)

    Thanks for reading.

What tactics and strategies might they be?

One strategy for slots is to double up if you can. This increases the return of the game. The more you double the higher the return.

IMO, each slots game is different, 1st thing is 1st.
understanding the variance of slots you are playing.

Also, some slots are AWP, better not mixed up with normal slots games.

You should look at the paytables before playing. Some games you must be playing max lines and/or max bets to win the jackpot or trigger a feature.

Games with stacked or expanding wilds, very high multipliers or large amounts of freespins tend to be much higher variance (few small/med hits, a very few very large ones), so govern your bankroll accordingly.

Play at trustworthy casinos. It's enough to gamble with your bankroll, you don't need to gamble on getting paid as well. CM has an accredited list, they all meet certain standards.

All casinos offer a free play mode. It's a good way to test the waters on unfamiliar games and find ones you enjoy before spending your hard earned cash in real. You may just find the music appealing, the colour scheme or the bonus round especially fun (I particularly like multiple pick features myself, and slots that have some kind of random bonus so you have hope until that last reel).

If you take bonuses, read and understand all of the Terms and Conditions. If you are unsure, contact support either by live chat or email (or if you prefer the telephone, ask them to immediately send you an email confirming what you've been told).

Most of all, have fun, accept that most sessions you won't come out ahead, and don't get too greedy! A decent hit can quickly disappear if you start betting too big for your bankroll. A good rule of thumb is probably around .5 - 1% of your bankroll per spin.

I always find that when a slot is paying well and I up my bet, it goes dead. Probably just my luck though.

Edit: Oops, didn't realize you meant the 'gamble' feature, I never use that.

Nope, feels like the feature is there solely to cheat you out of your winnings :D

I do. I double up, but keep my auto spin parameters in place of 100 spins or $100 loss, so I don't go too crazy.

my largest wins have been when I "pressed" my bets after a nice bonus spin or other wise larger than normal spin win.

:) Awesome. I just managed to come back on after doing house tasks to look if there were any replies... and WOW! I'm impressed. Thanks Guys.

Playing slots, seems a lot clearer to me now. I appreciate the advice on the bankroll %, stuff like that is always really useful.

I think i will certainly play around on free play/practice mode to get a 'feel' for different slots and see which clicks right with me.

As for my roulette strategy Petro, it's nothing earth shattering, i just mix it up between playing the fibonacci system, D'Alembert system and sometimes (i emphasise sometimes) the martingale system. All this is done while playing with a sensible bankroll management. So i don't go 'chasing' the win and end up losing more (IMO a very bad habit i've seen some of my friends fall into.) Hope that is of some help.

And once again, Thanks everyone for helping me with my query.

Definitely no skill involved in general although I can think of a very few exceptions. However like Plasticnote says, make sure you understand the concept of variance as this can make a HUGE difference when it comes to getting a decent session. Bet too high on a high variance slot and you could be busted out in no time. Risk/reward :)

Also bear in mind that any slot with a progressive jackpot will generally have a lower expected "return to player" (RTP) on normal play, ie: without hitting the jackpot.

In general, most online slots on the big software platforms (Microgaming, Playtech, Wagerworks/IGT) are set between 92% and 97% although there are a few exceptions at either end.

    What do you mean?
I have always believed the double up to be a true 50/50 chance, therefore it will have zero effect on your RTP.

    Terminology

Forgive my ignorance but what exactly is "AWP"? I googled this and came up with "Amusement with Prizes". Does this mean a slot with a bonus game? Also, on the same topic, I have seen the term "fruit machine" or "fruities". I have come to the conclusion that this is just a British term for a slot machine.

Can someone please educate me on these terms? Thanks! :)

I think we had this discussion in another thread. Doubling up only increases your RTP if you go in with the following mentality: "I'm going to wager $100 on the slot machines." So, for instance, let's say you bet $1 at a time, you big spender, you. You win $30, you gamble it on the double-up, you win $60, and you gamble that. You've now wagered $91 at a much better RTP than wagering $91 on the slots. But that lasted you, what, all of 45 seconds?

So it makes sense to say that doubling up does not increase your RTP if you go in with the following mentality: "I'm going to play the slots for an hour." In fact, it'll probably reduce your return for the session since you'd have significantly more variance in that hour and would probably deposit again to buy more entertainment.

    Don`t be cocky.

I think that Nifty seems like a thoughtful and skilled person. Just what a forum needs.

AWP abbr for "Amusement with Prizes" is one type of "legally rigged slots". It is not true random. It is UK "fruit machine".

IMO there is only one really important skill or strategy for slots= we all know it (and like me many of us ignore it:))

    KNOW WHEN TO CASHOUT !

THat aside its really down to which slots you enjoy and betting the right amount for your bankroll pending the slots variance. Kasino Kings and SImmo's sites will give you some info on these and payout times.

From a personal perspective I never double up- too damn hard to get a win in the first place LOL- also be aware that if using a bonus double ups do not count towards wagering requirements in most places.
