If there are any US Navy Guys out there I would love to hear your answer:)

We had a debate about Navy ships today , I know that in the armed forces a ship is never ever called a boat , know that from being married to a Navy man for 16 years.

Question , why are Navel ships called a she but are named after men or cities or states , why are they never named after a woman? I think this is gender biased and would love to see a naval ship named after the so many great American women in our history , Betsy Ross , Dolly Madison , Rosa Parks and many more come to mind , does any American agree with me on this ? This was a big debate today in my house and someone said a ship named after a woman just would not be cool , that they would rather serve on a ship named after a man , I said , BS !!!!

Bodies of water are typically named after a women. Y'all keep us afloat, and in your fast greatness we appear as specs of sand.

......Which is why a ship can never have a women's name.

^ I'm so getting some tonight when my wife reads this. :o

Submarines are called "boats".

There isn't any rule against naming ships after women. There have even been a few. The USS Hopper, built in 1996, was named for Grace Hopper. The Coast Guard has a cutter in service named Harriet Lane. USNS Amelia Earhardt launched in 2008.
