It's not in place of the PL. I've digested it a bit now and it seems to me that it is purely to cut UEFA out of the readies that are generated by the CL. From what I can gather, UEFA took a fair chunk?

Reading around, I'm not quite sure what all the fuss is about. It's just a replacement CL
It’s not a replacement it a direct competitor the super league and champions league would run together lol somehow

wouldn't surprise me, I think they're based in switzerland and have enjoyed riding the football gravy train no doubt for years, receiving bribes and all that business over the world cup locations and voting. One thing rich owners are going to be when it comes to cutting out any excess middlemen is ruthless, they must see the present setup like a forced act of charity!

Another colossal payoff too no doubt, I don't know why he doesn't now just take the handbrake off his teams, he keeps trying to play dour, safe football, boring the fans senseless while losing at the same time.
Millions each time it’s like he does it on purpose now play boring and shit get millions and the summer off

3.5bn for joining the super league...you can see why it was an attractive proposition. Pretty much compensates for COVID pandemic losses and more.

The thing is, UEFA, FIFA et al are all pretty much backed into a corner now. FIFA can say they will ban these players from the WC but if that's the case, we pretty much don't have a WC. They would be shooting themselves in the foot.

Too much money involved for this juggernaut to be stopped.
If the Newcastle/ Saudi deal had gone through smoothly by now Newcastle would most likely be competing with the big boys. I bet that it was blocked to please the bigger clubs :(

Well United are just ran by greedy you know whats. We are heavily in debt already even when the Glaziers came in we was in debt then too and we continued to be in debt to this day. Yet they still take dividends out of the club every year too!

They do not even care about football, all they care about is money. That is why they never like spending money on Ole's first choices and we always get third or fourth or 5th choices.

I have been saying it for years The Glaziers NEED TO GO. This super league better not happen. I really hope something happens that stops it from happening. Maybe a lot of players will do a boycott?

WTF idea is this... As a Spurs supporter i know that we are quite demanding for chairman and coach and keep complaining for lack of CL-football every second season when we don't have approx but this wasn't what we ordered, some fcking self-made private "league" for few clubs...

Fckoff Levy and take that mourinho with ya, thank you.

edit:

The Club can today announce that Jose Mourinho and his coaching staff Joao Sacramento, Nuno Santos, Carlos Lalin and Giovanni Cerra have been relieved of their duties.

Some part of wishes came true, was nice to see ya guys but your football was horrible, nothing personal.

1 -0 lfc vs new, salah

Anyone been watching the snooker, I use to watch it back in the day but drifted from following it in the hendry era, then last couple of years watching the odd match on tv again. There was a good match last night, mcgill knocked out ronnie, be less of a tournament now but he deserved to win. Mcgill is quite a fast player unlike mark selby who I find is one of the most painfully boring players to watch, has to pause and have a walk round the table on nearly every shot.

It was a very poor start for the Toon but I think that they will make a good game of it. The risk of relegation has eased so they will play more freely-I hope

I have not really followed snooker much since Jimmy Whites hayday. "Get the cash"

Back in the day we would see them sink 12 pints and a packet of cigs in a session

Back in the 90's there where some classic games between Liverpool and Newcastle and we blew the title after dominating a game against Man U only to lose the game. But most Newcastle fans didn't care too much because we just loved having a great entertaining team

was that the keegan team with ginola and ferdinand/shearer/asprilla, they were great, you had that belgium central def with the tash I think he scored against man utd in a big win.

funny how even though there is even more money in the game, newcastle can't attract that same level of quality player atm, the 90's and early 2000s was a bit of a heyday for good international players. saint maximin showed some flair last year, don't know if he's doing much this year.

Yes. Philip Albert was the Belgian. He was the most attacking defender that I can remember.
5-0

not sure if those days will ever return, matches were far more exciting, I think I read that bobby robson could have signed ronaldo [the brazil one] or somebody of that calibre for NUFC before they were well known. [edit might have been zidane and keegan, imagine if they'd had zinedine and ginola together :eek2: ]

? 1-1 now, oh dear there goes our CL place next year it looks.

I think that the early goal put the Toon on the back foot too much. But I think that sees us safe :) I don't get why Liverpool have had such an inconsistent season given how good they where last year?

I think the lack of home fans has hit us and also trouble with the players like salah and mane, contract problems, and virgil getting injured. we signed wijnaldum from newcastle, but he doesn't seem to score as many goals now, probably because klopp plays him too deep. Not sure our brazillian goalkeeper is playing as well either this year

To be fair to Salah he has 29goals this season.

Mane has misfired and Firmino only 6 goals in 42. Cap that off with him not assisting as much meant the three boys they relied on for ALL their goals didn't get close to the total needed to keep that pace up. Jota was signed by Klopp with that in mind imo. But he then missed about 10 league games with injury at a crucial point.

Van Dijks loss was felt more with Matip getting hurt also. It meant Matip,VVD and Gomez were all missing at the same time. Creating two problems. No senior centre backs and Fabinho covering CB is a massive loss from midfield.

Carragher and Neville made the point fresh legs were needed because the game plan is long busting energy for 90 minutes every game. The fresh legs didn't work out because Henderson got injured so rotation wasnt really an option in the middle or up front with Jota injured. Shaqiri and Oxlade Chamberlain are just not good enough.

Couple all this with City finding great form so they pulled well clear. Man United and chelsea have both improved and then Leicster and west ham are having the season of their lives.

So overall it's down to a little bit of burnout in a season with crammed fixtures,mane/firmino not scoring enough and bad luck with injuries.

As for Newcastle. I hope they stay up for Steve Bruce's sake. Many from the media and fans also were looking for his head in the losing run they went on.
I think hes working miracles. All the back four are not good enough. The keeper is decent to be fair. Almiron isn't the worst.
But really it's all about Wilson and Saint Maximan. Those two are the only real creative outlet. In a club where. Ashley wont spend money but wants success those two players are pivotal.
You could see the losing run when they were unavailable. Look how different a side they are when both play!

I agree that Bruce has done a good job under difficult circumstances and the players seem to be happy playing for him despite the fall out he had with Matt Richie.
Newcastle will always have an issue attracting the best players because it is not the bright lights of London and the weathers worse.

Liverpool where my second fave club since long before I had hair I could sit on and they had THE Supersub

Have to say congrats to chelsea, quietly they've crept into the CL semis, you never know if they click they could be champions of europe. The european tactics probably suit Tuchel more than facing a big Sam side in the prem, and perhaps football fate he will come up against PSG in the final.

wow chelsea made it to the final, 3-1 agg against real madrid is no mean feat, although not a big chelsea fan, after the way RM beat LFC in the final and the petulant arrogance they often show I'm pleased with this outcome. Don't think frank would have managed it so appointing Tuchel was a good decision, can they beat man city again though?
