There's been a hugely overexaggerated backlash by individuals who have a vested interest in keeping things as they are. I've seen the reaction on Sky today...do people really think this lot wouldn't be the first to scramble for broadcast rights if this was a done deal?

Gary Neville et al going on about greed. Greed is happening all over- big company bosses paying themselves 7 figure bonuses whilst the frontline staff get a pittance. Why's he only kicking off about it when it comes to football?

Are Salford not one of the big six lol

To be honest this super league talk is just greed and nothing more!

Not sure how it would work though and how they would qualify? Would it mean the top 3 teams from PL and CL get put into the SL or would it just be the top 6 teams in the PL only? Either way I think it is a very very bad idea.

It is already a struggle to fit all the games in each season with all the extra matches for cups and breaks for international duties. So adding yet more matches would just make it more of a headache for teams and organisers to sort the schedules out. What is more it will likely lead to yet more injuries and also lead to players being tired and not getting enough rest between games!

No surprise football is all about greed these days.

The wages say it all. Take Rashford as an example. Launch a campaign to give school meals to kids that need it. Fair enough. But sorry the guy earns £200,000 a week. If he is that concerned he could give £150.000 a week to the kids himself and still have more than the average annual salary to himself each week.

Fair enough if someone wants to pay you an obscene amount you are more than welcome to it. But do not sit there going on about poverty and expect people that can ill afford it to help others when you could easily help out a lot more than you do without even making a dent to your lifestyle.

The Euro Super League if it ever takes of will just be a revamp of the Champions League. It will simply be the Biggest teams in Europe take part every year making the rich clubs richer and forgetting the rest. The Champions League already went like that by adding 4 teams from biggest countries while making it near impossible for smaller countries to enter. The new League would just be biggest clubs taking part every year with no qualifying needed.

I think it could be entirely possible that this is just an attempt to put pressure on UEFA to revamp the CL. If so I suspect it may work.

Yeah it already worked when they changed the CL. Big Clubs wanted more money so they made it so the few biggest countries had several teams enter and other countries had little chance.

UEFA will again do what is needed to keep big countries happy and bring more money in. They can not take a chance that the teams will grow so big they would just go it alone and say sod UEFA.

People will say the teams need UEFA and can not go it alone but money talks. The biggest countries could break away if they so wished and start their own league. All about money these days.

But end of the day i am scottish we don't have a great league. Only really got one worthwhile team lol and a great day for them today.

Well football is his specialist subject, just listened to the clip Oscar posted and Mr Neville talked a lot of sense, yes Sky have a vested financial interest in scuppering any breakaway, but would probably scramble to buy the rights if it were a done deal.

I think Gary is simply a football traditionalist, and also seen a lot of money leave man utd, and replaced with a lot of debt due to the way the new owners purchased the club.

Out of the English clubs how many are foreign owners? And looking to capitalise on the club they bought!money talks and most if not all see a return on their investment and to hell with fans and traditions they couldn’t care unless they are adding value (bastards)

Looks like a done deal...

Where does this leave UEFA...

What a landmark day for football. This is seismic.

It’s not over yet or even began, just before uefa come up with changes for the champions league
Big clubs flexing? Want better terms? Who knows this will probably go on all summer

from the bbc:

Bundesliga sides are opposed to the plans because the German model means commercial investors cannot have more than a 49% stake in clubs, so fans hold a majority of their own voting rights.

It is understood French Ligue 1 side Paris St-Germain are not part of the group either.

Uefa said it thanked "those clubs in other countries, especially the French and German clubs, who have refused to sign up" to the breakaway league.

However, world governing body Fifa has already said it would not recognise such a competition and any players involved in it would be denied the chance to play at a World Cup.

It looks like a bit of a lopsided pony league to me, with 6 clubs out of 12 being english, where's the balance for a true european super league?

Looks to me like it's just to be an alternative to the CL. Looks like it's been done to shaft UEFA.

Instead of playing midweek CL games it'll be the ESL. Apparently it is not 'closed' either. There will be other routes of access based upon a team's achievements during the season.

Apparently Bayern have now said yes to joining too.

Possibly Leeds Leicester and villa and Everton make champions league spots at the end of this season ? 2020 2021 anything else

3.5bn for joining the super league...you can see why it was an attractive proposition. Pretty much compensates for COVID pandemic losses and more.

The thing is, UEFA, FIFA et al are all pretty much backed into a corner now. FIFA can say they will ban these players from the WC but if that's the case, we pretty much don't have a WC. They would be shooting themselves in the foot.

Too much money involved for this juggernaut to be stopped.

UEFA or fifa ‘takes over the running of the super league’ if the bribes are big enough

Manchester United chairmen Joel glazer will be a vice chairman of the new super league.
what a fucking surprise their (not) they have made a hell a lot of money of Man U it just mustn’t be enough! At half time expect the World Series of baseball to be played ?‍♂️

money talks but there could be a backlash from fans, I suppose the 6 english clubs will stop playing the league cup to free up some extra schedule. However I can't see them leaving the premier league but have this super league replace the CL, otherwise they'd surely be out of pocket, receiving only 1 tv rights rather than the two currently.

Could just possibly be a play to uefa calling bluff how far do you go tho?

It's not in place of the PL. I've digested it a bit now and it seems to me that it is purely to cut UEFA out of the readies that are generated by the CL. From what I can gather, UEFA took a fair chunk?

Reading around, I'm not quite sure what all the fuss is about. It's just a replacement CL
