One thing is for sure it will be a long long time if ever that England have a path to the final as easy as this and to be honest if your judged on what you achieve, which of course is how it should be then anything less than making the final has to be considered a failure imo. Like I said earlier in the thread if England achieve anything of any note on reflection people will realise it wasn’t because they are a great team, more because it’s a sub standard tournament.

Yes your right they have been missed but the fact is when qualifying is based over 10 or 12 matches in the format it is you can’t moan if you didn’t qualify. You have ample chance and hard luck doesn’t come into it. Sadly it means you weren’t good enough.

In all seriousness though, seeing Spain dumped out and Croatia almost fucking it up themselves has only served to ratchet up the significance of the England/Colombia game.

Just think about it.....one team out of Croatia, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, England and Colombia is going to find itself taking part in a WC final in less than a fortnight from now. No clear underdog out of the six teams, no clear favourite either.

If you had said that one of those six teams would be in the WC final, the men in white coats would have been sent round to take you away in a heartbeat.

But let's not pretend that this is the easiest ever path to a WC final. Look at the route that was gifted to a very poor Germany team in 2002.
Paraguay in last 16, USA in QFs, South Korea in SFs. 1-0, 1-0, 1-0. Eventually, their luck ran out against Brazil.

And there's every chance the same thing could happen this year to the team that reaches the final from England's half of the draw.
