From watching the battle scores and running some numbers, I believe the reason for so many complaints that the new slots are garbage is because the volatility has gone way way up. So yes it will still hit that 97% rtp after 5 million spins. But over the short run, its like the lottery now.
Meaning, they are offering huge wins which people can hit with astronomical odds. Lets take BTG slots for example. Bonanza. someone hit 14000x. Danger high voltage someone hits 18,000x. So for those massive wins, many many players are going to have to lose. If you think of that person betting $1 and winning $14,000. That is an rtp of 14000%. In order to get it to its number of 97% rtp there are an awful lot of players that need to lose
I have been watching the Book of Dead battles numbers which is actually one of the best examples to use since most of us have these short sessions with real money play on it. And for every big winner, it seems there are 20 losers. Yesterday a book of dead battle had 1 winner with an rtp of 430% and 26 losers with and rtp average of 45%.
So from these high variance slots, a rough estimate would mean you have 1 in 20 chance at a positive rtp. And the real monster wins, the odds are really out there.
If you play medium volatile slots like pragmatic, the odds are better that you walk away with a profit because 14,000x hit or any even near that, do not exist.
Like the lottery, you can win that big prize but most times you are going to lose.
Look at the slots that have been released lately. i will use a couple examples. Luchadoro and flame busters. Go play those slots and see how it ends. I bet most people would report back a loss. They are pretty high variance. And most new releases are following suit. I dont know why the industry has taken a turn for the higher variance stuff, maybe player demand/feedback. But it seems to be the norm now
Enjoy your day
p.s. bonanza is rigged though
