what is your internet speed?

I have 25 download, 1.5 upload for about 9EUR/month.
Could get 50/5 for 15EUR or 120/10 for 20EUR, but I am OK with the current one.

In my country, prices and connection speed heavily depend on the location and number of ISPs available. Until a few years ago, connections were expensive, i.e for a 5/0.5 EUR30 was not extraordinary, especially if there was only a single ISP offering service somewhere. Then a new ISP from a neighboring country entered the market, and prices went rapidly down, and now we have offers like 40/20 for 13EUR assuming the service is available there.

can be terrible speeds downunder at times , not much good atm. Hope the national broadband network thats being fixed now vastly improves this.

When I upgraded to faster speed I didn't really notice it too much on downloads but noticed the speed instantly when I uploaded websites to the server.

I think I had 20 or 25 mbps and upgraded to the 50 mbps a year ago.

I have my TV (kind of a cross between satellite TV and cable channels), landline phone service and internet all together thru my telephone company. Depending on long distance usage - $130 per month.

(sorry about the spacing. Can never get the pic size right.

I Tried Three different browsers

I tried the www.speedtest.net that you folks were just using on three different browsers.

Firefox: Ping 712ms Download 8.49mbps Upload 2.88 Mbps

Chrome: Ping 799ms Download 4.30mbps Upload 2.03 Mbps

I.E. Ping 728ms Download 8.07mbps Upload 3.21 Mbps

And I still can't download RTG.

Well it just means that the higher the download speed, the faster you can download for example a movie, and the higher your download speed, the better quality streaming you can have, without hick-ups etc...for example from Netflix (When THEY choose to open their gates and not limit their upload speed.).

I think, with your speed, on average you'd finish downloading a 700 Mb movie in 7-8 minutes, where it would probably take me anywhere between 12 and 15 minutes (If I did anything that isn't legal, and could potentially become very very expensive, if I was busted, which of course I don't... And if I did, I certainly would not brag about it, in a public forum....just saying). ;)

I don't understand why anyone would want to watch a movie on their computer??? I can't stay on the computer too long, as it hurts my eyes.

I mean why don't you just watch it on tv, or go to the movies, or rent it? I'm thinking the reason is...it's free? I still wouldn't do it...my eyes, my eyes...hahaha

Some of us download the movie, but burn it to disc and watch on our flat screens; by burning it, I can re-watch it and not have to buy the DVD. Movies are also expensive at the theatre..I'd sooner make my own snacks and buy drinks at the store. I just buy a 100 DVDs at Wal-Mart for 20 bucks.
Also instead of sitting through commercials, I download Tv, toss 8 on a disc, and watch at my leisure, commerical-free. Also, instead of having to wait each week, i'll download a whole season tv, and watch it back-to-back.
I literally never, ever, watch 'regular' tv, as in, watch cable tv directly FROM the tv.

My TV is my second monitor. With two clicks on my screen I can turn the signal to the tv on or off which effectively turns the tv on or off. I have a second wireless keyboard on my coffee table and a mouse pad. When I get tired of sitting here I click the TV on and walk to the couch with my mouse and my coffee. I can watch movies online or browse Youtube or gamble all from the couch. I could get a second mouse for the coffee table but when it becomes too much effort to carry the mouse to the couch I'll probably never get back off it again anyway.

Ohhhhhhh...duh...I really think I'm losing it, haha. I never even thought of that, but again, I'm lucky I know how to turn on a computer. lol.

Wait...so you can gamble on your tv? Can you explain this in easy to understand terms? :D I mean like how do you hook it up like that, and does a "cable/internet" guy have to come and do it?

Well I have always had a good fast ball. The last time the internet pissed me off I probably threw that modem out the door at about 50mph. Thats pretty fast for a non aerodynamic box, if it was a ball It probably would have been clocked at at about 79-80mph.

It depends on what outlets you have on your computer. Most have a HDMI outlet, either on one side or the back, and you simply connect that to the HDMI inlet on the back/side of your flatscreen with a HDMI cable... simsalabim.

The outlet on your computer would look like this:

HDMI or DVI. DVI doesn't have sound.

Some video cards only have DVI and some TVs don't have DVI so you'll have to make sure your video card has an output that your TV will receive.

If you use DVI you'll have to run an audio cable but that's cheaper than replacing a video card just because it doesn't have HDMI. Obviously HDMI is simpler since it's an all in one cable.

But in the end it's no harder than plugging in your first monitor.

If you don't have the software installed that lets you turn monitors on and off from the taskbar you'll have to do it through your screen resolution settings. That depends on the card manufacturer and the software they provide.

Umm, ya, I understood that.

I don't even know what a video card is...lmao

OMG I just asked my 11 year old if she knew what you were talking about, lol...and my husband heard me, my 22 year old was just talking about this with my father and him over Easter. He wants to watch his greyhounds run on his big screen tv, my 22 year old told him the cable cost between $40-$60, you can buy it on Amazon.

That is SO COOL!!!

Yup, I just looked, I have that. :D

We still have the "old fashioned" tvs...no flatscreen.

That makes it expensive and troublesome...it can be done, with some converter stuff from Digital to Analog signal, but it's hardly worth it.
I think it would probably be cheaper for you to buy a flatscreen tv these days ;)

Back when I had the old style low def TV I had it hooked up to the computer with an S-video cable from the video card to a straight S-video to RCA cable plugged into the video in on the TV.

Some older model video cards had an RCA out so you could plug them right into the video in on the old style televisions. I've been watching videos from my computer on the television for well over 10 years.

Thanks guys, your awesome!

I'm excited about this information, omg how cool to gamble on your tv!!!

I've been looking at tvs for about a year now, (no HD, it sucks, expecially when you see it at someone elses house, lol) but as you can tell I know nothing about nothing, they all have "LCD then HD then some numbers" I have no idea what any of that means. Neither does my 55 year old hubby. Yes, we are very old fashioned, technology just isn't us.

Sorry to get off track of original title, sorry OP. (It's just so cool! :D )
