if you happen to be a visa card user for deposits ? do you think its correct to have the verified page get completed
during deposit without having to fill in the pass word for the verified by visa protection window ??

PS here is the email
i recently today made a deposit and no password needed after five minutes of playing the phone rings its a boat/marine supplier from the state of connecticut telling me that some one is using my credit card to try to buy a 3800.00 dollar
navigation system for a yacht /boat

i had the marine store merchant send me by email the fraudsters tel number and other info she had then forwarded it to the cc company all is well now but it could happen to any of us , i think ill get the info the merchant sent and post it here

here is the the email the marine store vender sent along with the scammers tel# & etc

Mr. xxxxx
I had a phone call today from someone giving your name, and address calling from phone number 870-568-7595, he proceed to order a Furuno Radar/Chart Plotter for $3830.39 using a visa ending in xxxx. The email address he provided was bpn_p1@yahoo.com
I did do an address match on the card (so you should see a $1.00 authorization) but I did not run the card for the funds. The order sounded suspicious from the get go, so I just kept this person on long enough to get the information and hopefully find the rightful card holder. If you or the Credit Card company has any questions please feel free to contact me.

I'm not sure that the theft of your CC # would be related to the verified by VISA. Or maybe I just don't understand your post. i usually do have to put my password in.
I am so happy that you were able to catch the theft before it went through. That is scary!:eek2:

Not all online merchants use Verified by Visa. But I've never encounted one that did use it not requiring you to enter the password.

Sounds like it was a telephone order the fraudster was trying on, and they wouldn't need verified by visa for that, it is online purchases only.

Kudos to Ms Lillis, she sounds very on the ball!

You might want to report it here:
You do not have permission to view link Log in or register now.
, looks like Defender Industries and your credit card are not his first attempt.

Now doesn't your daughter have a big boat? You might want to browse their catalogue yourself!

I'm so confused... why would the merchant phone you? How would they have your phone #? unless this is a company you have done business with before? You didn't give that person any info did you? card # or such?

I swear... we live in such a wicked world. It's almost impossible to spend our own money (passwords, security checks, etc.) but crooks just spew our info around and use it any way they want.

this scammer used a telephone to try to dupe the merchant,cc company, using my info fro a visa card i use exclusively and only for online gaming

the verified vise screens i'm mentioning i encounter at a few online casinos that some of us use [not mention names ]

the casino i was using 5 min before i got the call isn't a accredited one here at cm how ever accredited casino's here accept my deposits using verified by visa with out me filling in the password [so is that PW needed in such cases ] i use to have to put in the password all the time now recently its not necessary

oh and my daughter does have a 34x12 bay liner yacht/cruiser and it is fully equipped

my daughters boat --->

because she was suspicious of the caller that was trying to acquire the 3800$+ nav system [ a great reseller item ]
and she was intelligent enough to get as much info from him as she could then she called me here in massachusetts to see if the purchase was ligite witch it wasn't

How do you know that the call that you received isn't a scammer themselves?

If I were you, I'd make sure that it wasn't just a ploy to get you to confirm your details.

i forwarded all the info to the abuse dept at the cc company ,and sense they had a very comprehensive account of my details
if they were the thieves why would they tip me off that my cc had been compromised also the credit card company acknowledged that the 1.00dollar charge that's a proving method from vendors was implemented but that the charge then was backed off

at this time I'm of the opinion that it could only have been the processor , the casino itself paid me in complete from a free chip so there not as high as the processor on my list of suspects

Rockycatt,

I've never had a Verified by Visa that I didn't have to put in my password. I only have one card that asks for it and I don't use it often for deposits.

In a prior thread, I posted that I am a victim of identity theft and I am finding out that it is a little more wide spread than identity theft via the IRS. A couple of weeks ago I had a $.94 charge hit a NS card from a dentist in Breaux Bridge, LA, I assume since that's the only city I know of by that name. This town is several hundred miles from where I live in Texas so even the remote possibility of me using his services were nil. I called NS, and wonder of wonders, they immediate removed it. They usually tell me they have to wait until it posts so that was my clue that they knew it was bogus. I think I was fixing to be hung with some kids braces. LOL!

Anyway, the lady at the IRS told me that they were finding that the vast majority of the identity theft cases thru them were coming from medical information or banking information. I was pretty amazed by this but if you think about it, you go to the Dr. or hospital and you give your DL and SS card to the insurance desk and they make copies. And there you go. Your information is out there and accessible to anyone that can open a file. Same way with banking.

I don't think now days that we can blame international thieves for all of the identity theft/credit card fraud that goes on. I think it's way closer to home than that. I am alot more diligent now than I use to be about who gets my information.

i agree with all you said , but what made my antenna go up was that i had just made a transaction and was playing slots i gotta tell you that the first thing went through my mind was that they knew i was preoccupied gambling right at that time
and that's were my investigation headed on this one [and i don't want any more ] i'm thinking of prepaid altho i had it so easy with my domestic cc

Pretty scary stuff Rocky. Thank you for posting. Just curious if it is a bank related Visa. TD Bank had a huge breach recently.
Too coincidental that you deposited at a non-accredited just prior to this happening. Wouldn't hurt to post which place.
Could help others.

Regardless, I hope it gets sorted out.

Make sure you scan the chit out of your pc......

i have discussed this with another senior member and decided to advise the casino and sent the email with my suspicions along with all the available evidence's , i'm waiting to here there response first you see i won 100.00 dollars from them on a no deposit chip and they paid me in full so i don't want to bash them in public if they are also a victim of a bad processor

ps i just now had my norton 360 protection suite gone over by a live tech to serch for key logger by remote with a live tech he went through it 3 times and no key logger on board this pc
waiting for a response from the casino R C
PS it's not T D North but its one of the top 5 banks in the states

I agree with the other members, looks like your card and personal info. got used.

Might have been the OC you suggested, timeline fits.

There's no way for anyone to contact you only knowing your card details, therefore it had to be someone with your email and phone# too.

Also, there's no way to tell if it's a bad processor or the casino itself because you can't see how the transaction is processed unless you in fact connected to the processor to make your deposit.

the deposit was made through the cashiers page and my credit card company told me it looked like a book store that the casino deposit went to [of course that's miscoded ] so i didn't deny it

i'm still waiting for response to the email i sent to the casino about this ,and this was not a CM casino

ok the casino's first responce

Sounds like it's a breach on the processors side.............omg

can't wait to hear what is said and done

well the casino called me today first while i was out inviteing me to call them back i did call them back and they listened to what i had to say about it and how i was concerned about others even though i dident suffer any money damages

but i got to tell you it upset my very easy to deposit with out wory mind set it was perfect now i got to think about going out to get prepaid cc or whaever

for that id like to smack the perpetrator in the temple

any way they are going to investigate there people that had privy to the cc info and see what they can make of it they understood my concern even about the timing

one thing for sure is stay with the accredited list you might not be as lucky as me

ill post the final outcome [in as much as the way i'm treated up till the end of it ]

well ive come to the conclusion that the only way i can protect my self from cc info from being breached is to use a pre paid for deposit and Currier check for payment
below is what i feared /expected from any one remotely involved in a security mishap although i cant point my finger at the [casino WITHOUT A DOUBT] and the processor is out of my reach
the lesson here is to be thankful it wasn't a successful theft pulled off by the scammer and it is/was for certain a casino related inside job sense the cc in question was never used for any other purpose so ill look to see what cc prepaid i can use as a surragate to the real thing of a cc

below is what any of you can excpect to get from any casino found in a pinch of this sort I M H O,

= the extent of my response from the most suspected

Dear Donald,
I hope that you are well!
Further to the correspondence sent below, please note that the card will remain permanently locked at the casino.
There are no issues to report from our end....
Please confirm if you have settled any attempted deposit queries with your bank and once confirmed, we will give you access to play with us again.
(You will have to register a new card to make deposits with, at the casino)
I look forward to your feedback
Regards

on my last deposit after it went through i started to play and with in 10minutes i get the inquiry listed below about some one trying to use my info cc # all personal info including tel# ive been thinking this over and i think you should know this ,as i think it could very well be a money processor you use ,your purchase isn't affected so no charge back to you but sense this isn't a capitol murder trial were beyond a shadow of a doubt comes into play , it is a case were the weight of evidence should be looked at closely [the time frame of the trans action and info contained in it
I'm very sory to have to write this email but i think its best for you and all no persons lost any $$ over this because the store clerk was suspicious from the get go
please advise me of your thoughts

god bless all of you and please be careful with your personal $$$ I D AND INFO

Fraudsters are getting very creative with their new techniques in scamming etc, several months ago they worked out how to fleece Ukash via a telephone call, now some Ukash outlets will not accept phone customers. Earlier this year there was some unauthorised transaction activities in my Neteller account, luckily the big ones were declined but a few smaller ones got through (still awaiting the disputed ones to be resolved), if however these larger ones were a week or two later they to would have gone through, I deliberately keep my Neteller account under a certain amount and transfer to my bank if it drifts above. It baffled me as to how they got my card details as I never use it online, just by chance one day I was round a mate`s and the subject cropped up, his guest stated she had a card skimmed at an atm that I had used just once around the same time she had used hers.
