Both Russia and Ukraine, fought together against Nazi Germany until the war’s end in 1945.

And as for the territory gains. Ukraine had been bombing the shit out of the Donbas since about 2014 while Russia kept begging them to stop it so that area should be a given IMO

I just watched two live Trump and Starmer videos on LiveNOW from FOX, and Starmer was extremely selective on what he says about Russia after hearing Trump's opinions. It was lol.

I don't know exact details about 2014, but i know how it all kicked off in 2022. One example here:



Russia's response? They had to send troops in and declare a special operation.

I got the impression that Trump is seeking to favour the UK over the EU countries. Starmer looks very uncomfortable in the company of Trump because he is getting his legs cut off RE UK-EU relationships

The internet is littered with examples of Ukraine killing their own people/russian speaking Ukrainians in that area long before this brutal war started

For Starmer, it's tough now because there could be a lot of wheeling and dealing going on with Ukraine since Bojos times, about which the public don't know, and now Trump just comes and sets his rules there.

I think that we have seen just about the last of Zelensky as president of the Ukraine. I felt sorry for him but he let emotions take over
 
He may be a cross-dressing, piano dick-playing coke fiend doing Politicsface, but given the obvious language problems and being found out against wily political bastards like Trump, Putin et al, I do think Zelensky got somewhat 'the short straw' with this public branding!

Vance most definitely antagonized him, and the rest just kind of flowed. Less 'diplomacy' and more 'bonkled business deal turned school canteen slanging match' :eek2:

I hoped for a good deal between them which would essentially stop the war there. Yeah, once the Americans would have gotten in, that would be forever. But Ukraine has no better choice for peace anyway.

Plus they would have plenty of jobs, different commercial opportunities for companies, and most things in order. But from Zelensky's actions, it seems like he prefers to keep things going like this:

If he had been diplomatic then he would not have gave any oppertunity for Vance to be antagonistic in return? His responses gave the impression that he was under great pressure from the EU.

I had my fingers crossed too. Who wants to see needless wars where generations of a country are almost totally wiped out?
It could have been over within months if only the EU/NATO/America had not sent Doris over to stop the deal.

Money and power trumps lives. Imagine if it was your offsping getting murdered because it suits your governments aims and your child only wanted a path via the military to secure their future. Or are dragged off the streets to fight and be fodder

I remember watching Platoon as a kid, loved that movie. Made me want to "do my bit" for my Country lol. Shame how many fall for joining the army, to be lied to why they're really fighting and become a disposable asset for the interests of lying, rich and powerful people, rather than what they thought they signed up for - to protect/fight for their own nation.

I joined the TA when young and had a firm jutting chin and pecks. But I flew my qualifications in something else before going full time and made my life.
In Ukraine most of those that where my age when I made that choice where not given that choice and now they are dead. In the name a decission made by those that would never have to face a gun.

He must be thinking today how have I got myself into this, from popular comedian type to out of my depth, national war time leader.

I have been tempted to feel sorry for him at times but then remember those Ukrainians far worse off, grabbed by a press gang off the street, stationed in a trench and told to fight a much more heavily armed opponent a few miles away, or have to sit out huge glide bombs hitting their positions at any moment.

I suspect the EU leaders will backtrack now and try to create a distance between themselves and zelensky.

Replying to myself here, seeing a lot of verbal support for Zelensky from the leaders in Europe. However, I think once the dust settles there will be a move towards getting Ukraine a new leader.

He definitely switches to his native language briefly when JD Vance is replying, that's not really a diplomatic way to disagree, and with no translator sat there.
 
Rumours abound that Zelensky was the instigator after all, pre-broadcast, cussing out all and sundry when realizing his handler had not brought any cocaine to the meeting :eek2:

It provides clearer context as to why things became heated, and why Zelensky dressed like a peasant attending a Ukrainian outdoor rave....

Zelensky is insisting on security guarrantees as part of the agreement with the USA when Trump told him that part of the agreement lays with Europe and not the USA. So maybe tomorrows meeting is to thrash out security arrangements?
How long before the Ukrainian military say they have had enough because they have no military left? And no way would Europe put boots on the ground as that will trigger WW3.

And it looks like they couldn't even be arsed to slightly change their wording

Imagine a draft in Britain. There's nothing British left worth fighting for, so I can't see everyone being ok with sending their kids to needlessly die over there after having watched their own Country be destroyed by the same people that try forcing a draft. Could spark a civil war.
 
Just saw that they signed an agreement called the "100-year partnership" between the UK and Ukraine. An interesting point is that it makes the UK a preferred partner for Ukraine's energy sector, critical minerals strategy, and green steel production. It also doesn't obligate the UK to deploy forces if Ukraine is attacked.

Do wonder if some were setup by the other side. Heard some story about a woman walking upto conscription officers that took her son that later obviously died, and blew herself up killing some. Dunno if that's true, but have seen so many of these now.
I do know that if that was my son in the vid above, you'd be watching something resembling A 1990's royal rumble with Hacksaw Jim Duggan and his 2x4 being shot dead at the end.

They don't care about it. Ukraine is essentially a part of the UK now and largely under its control. It isn't bad for both countries, except for one thing: there is war going on in Ukraine, and the UK supports keeping it going.

Trump's deal would've stopped the war and potentially provided a chance for Ukraine to take back some of its territory from Russia.

I don't know if the UK considered the possibility that Russia, at some point, can take everything Zelensky promised to the UK and others.

 
Funny that conscription before is viewed differently from now. Guess generations back then didn't feel like they had much choice. I know more and more Ukrainians online now living abroad afraid to go back to get snapped up and sent off.

I hope that todays meeting is focused on providing the securities that Ukraine was requesting from America then the needless killing can be over. I would suggest that we as well as other countries would be happy to supply aid to help build back Ukrainian infrastructure and Russia should be forced into contributing too given that they caused the distruction.

When I heard Trump say "Youre gambling with world war 3" I looked around the corner thinking he was yelling that at Kim Jong Un, the guy who sent 12,000 troops to invade and kill Ukrainians. When I saw it was Zelensky, I was like oh ok we still sucking Putin off on the world stage? Back to work I go!

I would say that no sane British soldier would fight in another country for this money unless they were mercenaries earning something like 1k a day. The same thing for other countries too.

I can go to a building site tomorrow and build scaffolds for 60-65K a year, then come back home at 5 o'clock and watch jokes about Zelensky on Twitter and YouTube while lying on my bed safely.

But if British or troops from other countries had to fight on their own land to defend it, then that would be a different story.

It sounds like Zelensky has a different idea of the minerals deal to Trump:

"A little earlier, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent was asked if a minerals deal between Ukraine and the US is still on the table.

He tells the BBC's US partner CBS it's "impossible to have an economic deal without a peace deal".

Bessent says Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has "thrown off the sequencing" of how the minerals deal and peace deal were supposed to play out, and that it's unclear if he now wants to proceed.

"President Trump's idea for this economic arrangement was to further intertwine American and Ukrainian people and to show the Russian leadership that there was no daylight," says Bessent.

He adds that Zelensky came to the Oval Office and "tried to relitigate in front of the world".

"The place to have done that would have been in the private lunch," he says."

I suppose the European leaders and Z are trying to come up with an alternative, extra element which includes deployment of our troops, but then we need the US to give us a security guarantee - in effect the nato sequence - otherwise we're at war with Russia or putting troops in the line of fire, it's fraught with potentialities.

I am very sad to tell you my company hires consultants on more than that price, with all costs covered and excluding daily allowance :( They stay in hotel rooms and call us all the time for zoom meets.

Mercenaries should learn this and instead become consultants.
