Tunica Mississippi

mold Strike is supposed to start after the first of the year remodeling rooms, some were done and higher-ups didn't like the look so they stopped.
that "supposed" has been supposed for a couple years now.

They didn't want to do a remodel before MGM took over because MGM wouldn't pay the $$ that included the remodeling. So once MGM took over things were still falling apart, they took a few months to find a layout they wanted, did 5 rooms and magnagement hated it, so they're back to the drawing board for now. It's hard to start remodeling this time of year and having to block rooms off especially with the new year holiday coming up.

I call GS mold strike because of the waitress that had all of the skin ate off of her arm from the mold in the ice machines, which incidently was swept under the carpet, paid off inspectors, media blackouts, etc.

Interesting........I only hang in the casino and the ultra lounge bar near the lobby mainly because some of THE SHOE gals like to walk over after work. I do not think I will be drinking anything there this w-e other than bottled water now and that prolly is risky plus no fun.:D

Yes, I remember about the waitresses and the mold... I also remember checking into a room at the GS that had mold growing on all the chairs. We moved our play elsewhere as I really would get sick after staying in the GS each trip. A week after we'd get back home, I'd have sinus infection and/or bronchitis. Don't have that problem staying at other properties.

It's really hard to keep the moisture out of the barge casinos, sucks right into the hotels

I know and understand that. But I also know that I've never had moldy chairs in my room at either Sheraton or Sam's or the HorseShoe (or the Grand, but Terrace and Veranda aren't attached to the casino or right on the river). The GoldStrike desperately needs to upgrade their air conditioning system in the hotel when they put in new carpets (imagine the moldy gunk under that!) and drapes and beds, etc.

I feel sick:D

there are three i refuse to stay at fitzgeralds.....i had flea bites and a infested room full of fleas though they did move us to another floor and treated my bites:eek: the goldstrike, as mousey said needs a much needed makeover, the rooms smells like a cross between dirty socks and stale beer and the floors are always wet, must be the spilt beer:eek2: last is balleys, last time i stayed there the rooms were not clean at all, spider webbs in the corner walls ,yuck!! as for the rest of the hotels they are great the others need to take a lesson in housekeeping from them imo......laurie:)

Casino gambling transformed small town, but brought few other jobs
The highs and lows of casino gambling.

TUNICA, Miss. (WAVE) -- It's a key issue in Tuesday's election: Ky. Gov. Ernie Fletcher rolled the dice, hoping the public wasn't behind casino gaming. His Democratic challenger, Steve Beshear, has said he supports a constitutional amendment to allow limited expanded gaming in Kentucky, and according to polls, that idea has the support of a growing number of voters. WAVE 3's Connie Leonard has an in-depth look at what really happens to a community after casinos arrive.

The small town of Tunica, Miss. provides a real measuring stick for expanding gaming. That's because casinos have been tested there for 15 years now. And there's a reason they call it "The Mississippi Miracle."

"It was Poverty," said Tunica County Spokesman Larry Liddell. Tunica, Miss. was a once rundown railroad town; the real birthplace of the blues. "Tunica County was the poorest county in the nation," Liddell remembers.

There were cotton fields as far as the eye could see, and not much else. Unemployment was rampant; schools, an embarrassment. Liddell said "The Reverend Jesse Jackson came to Tunica in 1986 and proclaimed it the Ethiopia of North America."

Back then, Liddell said, the county was known...

Fitzgeralds changed the name to Fitz and really sunk some money into the rooms, they're nicer than the mold strike was when it was new, or the ones that have been remodeled are anyway.

The literacy rate in Tunica county is still obscene, 60%, not enough casino money is going into public education. Cotton mafia.... end of discussion

(Tunica County, MS 11/05/2007) The Tunica County Sheriff's Department has busted a car-burglary ring. They took three suspects into custody late Monday night.

Burglars have broken into 38 cars at casino parking lots over the past month. There were 12 cases reported in just one day.

Police will have to review finger prints to determine how many cases may be connected to the suspects now in custody. There is also a fourth suspect still on the loose.

"It's very rewarding to have these guys off the streets, and it'll be even more rewarding when we have the fourth guy," says Tunica County Public Information Officer Larry Lidell.

NEWS: Mississippi casinos

October's gross gaming revenue at the 11 Coast casinos fell below $100 million for the first time this year, dropping $14.3 million from September.

That likely makes the industry's goal of $3 billion in total state casino revenue for 2007 just out of reach. But the $97.4 million is still the second highest October on record after the $97.8 million recorded in Oct. 2003.

Revenues were also down $6.8 million at the Mississippi River casinos, dropping the state total from $239.1 million in September to $218 million in October. The Mississippi State Tax Commission released the figures today.

Myriad Entertainment & Resorts Inc., has again extended the closing date for the purchase of 500 acres of land in Tunica.

Myriad, which is planning the Myriad Botanical Resort in Tunica, has amended its agreement with the Jack Day Perry family for the purchase of the property.

The land purchase for Myriad's (OTCBB: MYRA) planned $1.3 billion destination resort has faced multiple delays as the group continues to work on financing.

A second extension date ended Nov. 15. The new agreement provides for an additional 90 days with a closing expected to take place on or before Feb. 15, 2008.

You know what it means when they start remodeling something they had neglected for the past 5 years... for sale! Of course there's been rumors since HS sold that Jack was pulling the strings over at Fitz. Wouldn't surprise me since 80% of the former employees at HS are now at Fitz and happy as ever.
