Hi all, I’m checking to see if this is legit. I signed up to ThePools over the weekend and made a few deposits totalling around £1k. I tried to make another deposit and I was told I’d reached my ‘deposit limit’.
It was annoying but I just thought it is what it is and didn’t think much of it.
A few days later I get an email from them saying that they’ve closed my account due to ‘safer gambling concerns’.

I accepted that they must have regulatory type reasons and so it is what it is and I’m not looking to change their decision. However, they’re claiming they’re concerned under these Safer Gambling concerns, (presumably because I deposited £1k), but yet they didn’t contact me, or even nudge me, once when I was actually depositing the £1k that they’ve took this action over.

Just incase it’s relevant, I verified my ID and address in order to deposit.

@danthemonman , it appears you have created a 2nd forum account which is a violation of the Forum Rules . Please check your PMs.

It seems that casinos operating in the UK have stricter regulations than Curacao based casinos.

I've never had any such problems, even though I deposit larger amounts.

I guess you’re right it’s maybe that you deposited and lost 1k in a weekend, I would say that to a big percentage of players that would be a whole months gambling budget, it’s certainly near my monthly budget so I could see why they might of seen that as a red flag.

But I agree it’s it bit strange they didn’t contact you about it instead to discuss and maybe ask for SOW to maybe raise your limits rather than just close your account.

Maybe they just don’t want that kind of player and all the potential issues that come with it.

Under current (incoming) UKGC regulations, they will do a credit check at £150 per month, and then more meaningful checks (Customer Due Diligence, up to and including Source of Funds/Wealth) above that - e.g. £500 or £1000 per month.

Operators are required to use a number of indicators to flag accounts that may be at risk of problem gambling. So if you have exhibited some of those and/or they have concerns based on your credit check, then they may feel the correct decision is to close your account immediately rather than ask you to complete CDD.

I expect we'll be seeing more of such threads in the future, given the UKGC will be keeping a closer eye on the high rollers.

That's why people talk about regulated and unregulated jurisdictions - Curacao licenses are barely worth the paper they are printed on, with very few checks and balances in place. Even with the incoming CGCB regime, I don't think things will improve much - the threat of exodus to Costa Rica and Anjouan will make sure of that.

1. This has damn-all to do with the OP.
2. Please read forum rules before shilling a list of casinos.

Thanks!
