SOW requests and no employment

Hi,

My girlfriend and I (we are UK based) regularly play online slots at low stakes. Our monthly deposits can range anywhere from £0 to £100 per month depending on how our luck goes. I’m not working but my girlfriend is.

All of our online casino accounts are under my name as I have more time to set things up. We use her earnings to fund our online casino accounts (she earns six figures so we certainly have enough disposable income to support £100 per month deposits). Our deposits come from our joint account showing both of our names.

My concern is that with increasing SOW occurrences, that if we ever decide to withdraw a balance, that I might get caught up in a SOW rejection.

Does anyone have any idea what might happen in such circumstances?

you are not breaking the law playing slots while unemployed,SOW can be savings etc not just earnings,if you won big of course you would get your money regardless of SOW or not,if they got difficult about it the casino just tell them to shut your account down, they would have to pay your winnings out,any problem come here we will help you

What casino's are you playing at? Some appear to be adopting the arbitrary 'X' threshold, no matter if you deposit that 10k in a week or that 10k over 4 years; some (Unibet/Sky Vegas/Bet365) I've had no such requests despite >10k.

You'd like to think at 100 quid a month, 25 a week, you'd be fine but some are using the old sledge hammer and nut approach.

If you're playing at Casumo, i'd stop (Slotsmillion are a bit trigger happy re SOW and i shut down my L and L's for getting the same request on, IMO, relatively low level deposits)

Thanks guys for the reassurance. Not many of us are breaking any laws but it sounds like some casinos take that stance with their excessive SOW requests. Luckily I haven’t been exposed to a SOW check yet.

@pinnit2014 - the main casinos we are currently playing at are Captain Spins, Leo Vegas, Gala, and Ladbrokes. We tend to stick to the bigger players and also have accounts with Mr Green, Will Hill etc.

The reason I asked this question is because I was about to sign up with Videoslots but read on here that they are starting to get SOW trigger happy. I was going to give them a miss anyway due to recently reducing their RTPs on some providers, but all UK casinos appear to be heading that way so it’s something we’re going to have to live with (or stop playing altogether).

Thanks again for the advice.

At that level of deposits if you stick to the likes of Willy Hill/Sky etc i'd be very surprised if you attract a SOW tbh; tends to be the Maltese casino's that like to see a bank statement for deposits less than a second hand car. UK ones seems to have a bit more common sense about them.

Even so, as Gonzo said, they can't withhold your money indefinitely; you might bang your head against a few walls first though.

I've never been asked for SOW at Will Hill or Sky, (and my Will Hill has probably had in total over £100 000 deposited, over £140 000 withdrawn - i MISS the days when they were on the very soft Crypto poker server)

I quit Casumo following their ridiculous SOW script ( I work fulltime, have own accounts, and yet they wanted SO much information, I'm surprised they didn't ask for shoe size, belt size and where i get my hair cut!)

RIZK, asked for SOW then put stupidly low limits in place -and if you play after midnight they block you account til they speak to you - also a no go.

Only issue with Hills is they are starting to drop the RTP's......

21casino seem good - especially if you going to be low deposits. Ive been with them for a couple of years and they havent asked me for SOW, my deposits are a fair bit higher than those you mentioning)

It's the wide variations in practice that's frustrating:

Casino A telling you 'we must SOW you on 10k'

Casino B, 10's of thousands are like 'Meh, not fussed, you're good to go'

Either B are confident they're applying the regulations correctly and/or are less risk averse than A, i dunno.

Rizk are just shit, ditto for Casumo.

Any player depositing the tiny amount of 100 per month should not be worrying about SOW as you’re simply no risk. It says it all that people are worrying about it, shows you the state we’re in.

If you happened to get lucky on a £25 deposit and withdrew 10k for example, I do believe you’d get a check...not because of any AML risk (obviously that would be none existent) but purely because some casinos would want to stall that kind of payout. Plenty of examples on the internet of this kind of shithousery occurring. The UKGC need to urgently put penalties in place for this behaviour.

We’re going to see increasing cases of civil action against casinos in coming years IMO, which is all leading up to many casinos pulling out of the UK market.

I did read one example of a person taking a casino to court because of this. The court ruled in the customer’s favour because the casino representatives didn’t even turn up. Apparently got to the point where high court enforcement was about to get involved but the casino paid at the last moment.

Stay away from Rizk, they have stated on here someone on benefits will fail their SoW and they don't want that type of customer.
That’s completely different to AML checks, that’s purely RG. RG issues do not give the casino the right to hold withdrawals (except for some circumstances involving exclusion). But as I say, seems the two things are being conflated anyway.

Nope, it was specifically AML, they (well it was MTST/GUTS at the time) said they had to ensure no one was using stolen money, benefits and a range of other things.

What have benefits got to do with AML. Not sure that would stand up in a court of law tbh.

No idea, and the rep ran away when questioned on it never to be seen again.
My guess is they don’t want people on benefits to be playing at their casino due to potential RG issues but have covered it within their AML diligence remit.

This would give them an extra layer of protection to comeback at the customer and say they can withhold the withdrawal. For an RG issue they wouldn’t be able to do this.

Well yeah, I mean it rules out 90% of the population with kids who get child benefit, people on low wages who get universal credit or working tax credit, anyone with a disability who get DLA or PIP (who might have a few million in the bank as it isn't means tested), but alas we shall never know what they meant.

That was what the queries were at the time, plenty of people can afford to play who get some type of benefits, and yet they were saying they would refuse the SoW for those who got benefits.

If someone is on benefits, the Casino will just set a deposit limit.

Both the forum members that flounce around here are on PIP and Job seekers.

They are both stupid enough to use their same user names on other forums asking how they can get more free money.

Just type their user name into Google.

yeah i know, i do think thats quite funny.

The GIG/MTST policy at the time was

The Source of Wealth is mostly asked for UK players, in order to make sure there are players who're not playing if they're loaning funds, in debt, unemployed with no income, low salary, or on welfare.

This is something the UKGC has ruled which we need to follow in order to be able to operate in the United Kingdom.

And don't forget this live chat from wishmaker who were also MTST/GIG.

They refused to payout winnings until the customer had paid off a credit card bill.

Obviously Rizk aren't GIG owned any more but quite often the policies are transferred over.

No benefits here. I am just lucky enough that I don’t have to do paid employment.

I’m actually here on a 2.5 year visa as my girlfriend needs to be here for work. We arrived in the UK a day before the first national lockdown in March 2020. Online casinos have been a great time consumer given we’ve not been able to go anywhere during the lockdowns.

Have you evidence of this? If not, please don't suggest you know other members' personal circumstances. Thanks.

I have cast iron evidence. But not something i would just bandy around the forum with, as i would expect to be clumped with the ban hammer.

My point was only that these people have moaned about having deposit limits set and saying they can well afford their losses, when in fact a PIP award is meant to cover your daily living needs because you have some sort of disability, not something to just spunk away at a Casino.

As i said just type certain peoples user names into Google and you can read pages and pages of them discussing how to milk the system for every penny on other Forums.

Why you trying to Dox people?

How have i Doxed anyone?.

Not a single name has been mentioned.
Ive never been involved in a single conversation with a member here ive just lurked and read when I can’t sleep yet I know who you’re talking about because from the various posts I’ve read you seem to have a pop at them quite a bit here and there ?

What someone does or doesn’t do with their benefit money really isn’t your business is it tbh and PIP is the same as DLA it’s not means tested and can be spent on whatever they pls as it happens . PIP also isn’t easy to get awarded at all these days so if they’ve been given it it’s for a reason I would think

editing to add : I see Colin has Pointed out the means tested thing too but my comment needs to be moderated so I’m not meaning to echo him honest ?

Just to say, PIP probably isn't the best benefit to use to make your point, as you could have £50 million in the bank and still be entitled to it :)
