I read a comment the other day saying they play slots with sound off, and it got me curious. Do you guys play slots with sound on or off? High or low volume? I think sound adds a lot to the atmosphere and immersion, which is why I'll always have sound on. Depending on if I have a stream or YouTube clip running in the background I might lower the volume, but it will never be off.

i chose other - it totally depends on situation, where i am and what games im playing.

if by chance im out somewhere , cafe/pub for example, and playing something for a while, sound always off.

at home, sound on - unless its a game like bonanza that has horrid sound. lol

later in evening or night, if i happen to be playing ill play with sound off - maybe turn it up a little for a bonus. :)

It may have been me who stimulated this thread? I feel that the music is designed to lead you into becoming 'immersed' and therefore spending more money than you planned on. I believe it's very subtle and psychological, very much like how supermarkets place sweets (candies to our US viewers) at a level that can be spotted by small children and those in prams/buggies/baby strollers and such. Same as bright wrappers for those sweets.

sound is a slot fundamental if you ask me.

Yeah, if I find the sound or / and music of a slot annoying, I would choose another slot to play at. The sound and music adds to the whole gameplay experience.

When I interviewed Terence Igesund from Stormcraft Studios, it was clear music was a clear consideration, with Terence saying: "Game ideas move through the creation process, touching illustrators, designers, animators, copywriters, analysts, mathematicians, musicians, developers, and testers, to list a few."

For those of you unaware, Terence was involved in the creation of games to include the likes of Thunderstruck and Immortal Romance.

Slight thread jack, but you can read the interview here: Interview with Stormcraft Studios

I always turn off sound for battles on Video Slots, can't stand it.

For games I'm spinning for real money I like sound on because when I get bonus teases I close my eyes and listen for if the scatter drops which I prefer over just watching. Also avoid me tilting off when it does a dirty tease that goes by as I don't have to watch that happen!

It was! (Wicked Wares thread). That's an interesting reason for playing without sound. Personally, I don't enjoy the experience as much without sounds. As an example, I was playing Mental the other day and with no sound a lot of the excitement and atmosphere is lost. SFX, but the music in particular, is such a huge part of the overall experience, though that will obviously differ from game to game.

Cool, will check out that interview. Thanks for sharing!

Always off. I'm just used to it now and enjoy it more than with the sound on.

When I started playing and would play random slots so many of them seemed to use the sound in the worst way i.e. hypnotizing soundtrack and scatter effects to try and 'tilt' you. Similar to what has been mentioned above in another post.

I have put the sound on when watching a replay and didn't feel like I was missing much tbh. I'm sure there are some slots that use the sound to enhance the experience but I'm just used to playing how I play now and won't change!

I play sound on but wont play bad sounding games, (will never play bonanza for example)

am a fan of well orchestrated modern games like Push games where the music and sounds ramp up depending on whats happening (like on razor ways and mission to the moon)

Mostly off but do like the sound effects in Nolimit games
But still belivie the orginal Immortal Romance
have the best sounds and music in bonus rounds 😀
I simply love the soundtrack to the Amber Free Spins.

I'd play it on mute, then rush to unmute it for the FS. You hope for a retrigger to keep the tune going too..

I usually play slots with the sound off because my ADHD brain needs another source of stimulation, so my attention is usually focused on music or a video. I mostly turn the sound on when I play Pragmatic slots in HYPERPLAY mode, because then I usually don’t look at the screen, and the sound lets me know that something’s happening and it’s worth taking a look :)

Mostly off these days. I'll unmute for Thunderstruck and Immortal Romance.
As for Bonanza, if there were a prize for the top most irritatingly loud and obnoxious sounds, it would win that hands down.

It's rare I do, the amount of new slots which have background sound which does not even loop well or jarring line win sounds means most are muted for me. I don't need to hear a huge musical score for a 15x win etc.
