Slot Play Myths

Think you are right about it applying as well to online play/common sense

My personal favorite from the article

Mythtake #8: Senior citizens are spending their social security money on gambling and not saving it.

This is not so, but even if it were, so what? Aren't you tired of the government and the press telling us what to do with our money? It's our money. We now treat our senior citizens not as the generation that survived the Depression, not as the generation that defeated Hitler and Mussolini, not as the generation that faced down Communism, or fought in Vietnam but as this mélange of drooling idiots who shouldn't be allowed to make decisions for themselves. If they want to spend their money on slot machines then so be it. Poor junior just won't be getting any inheritance -- let him work.

I got a kick out of that one, too. During one casino trip a little elderly lady (dressed to the nines, I'll have you know) toddled up to the slot beside me and asked if she could sit and play. Go right ahead, I tell her. Lady before her had cashed out $50. So she got settled in, waved down a cocktail waitress and ordered a beer 'in a bottle please'. I usually don't get 'chatty' while playing, but I was bored (and losing) so really low rolling and playing slow anyway.

So she commences to tell me how she comes on the group bus 4 times a year, and how her kids always make a fuss about the money she's blowing. 'They've got good jobs', she says. 'They can save and spend how they want. And I don't say a thing to them about the five grand they blow at Disney World every year - it's none of my business. And this $200 I save up and bring gambling is none of their damn business, either.' She shoved in a $20, looked at the paytables (so she'd know which symbols to 'root for'), hit some good bonus rounds, got half the casino cheering her on, and she soon cashed out $200. You go, Granny!

That is to funny, but good for her!! She has a point though, she saves her money to spend how she wants, and if she wants to spend it in a casino, then she should. I am going to Atlantic City in July and then to Vegas in August, and I tell you I have a better time chatting with the older crowd then I do with the younger crowd. They are always telling stories on how they just missed the damn jackpot... It kills me, I always reply "Someday you just might hit it, but don't go broke trying to do so." One lady replied to me, "If I ever hit that million, I would have a heart attack, but atleast I can go to the hospital knowing I hit that Million!" I had to laugh at that one!

Last I heard, disability is an earned benefit, just like Social Security. I believe you might be mis-informed.

Yes, my husband is on Permanent Disability and it has nothing to do with anyone else..what he does with his money. (Mostly plowed back into costly prescriptions that is not covered by Medicare...whole new thread..sorry/ derail)
