I read the faq section on rep power. Just still a bit confused. My rep power is 4. Does that mean when I vote to increase someones rep it will increase by 4? I'm assuming this part is correct, so from there does it mean I will lose my 4 rep power and go back to 0?

I've never used it because I like watching numbers build up :eek2: (weird OCD thing) and I figured I would keep dropping back down to 0 every time I use it.

No you don't lose any when you give it. I gave you some so no worries LOL
Unless someone neg reps you, then you lose some...

O ok cool, so that's how it works. Now I don't have to worry about using it lol. Thanks :D

There's not really much we can do with them except for give or take away from peoples' reputation.
@chayton, yes I think 10 is still the max
Bryan at one point had thought about have some type of contest or something, but nothing ever came of it, probably a good thing.

what can we buy with those ?

My grandpa used to smoke Mark Ten cigarettes - you were supposed to save the flaps of each pack where they had this coupon thing printed on them. They had a catalog where you could spend your coupons and buy something. I'm not sure when he started smoking Mark Tens, but he started smoking cigarettes when he was 12 and was up to 4 packs a day when he he died in his 80's. We founds boxes and boxes full of those stupid coupons, he never used them to buy anything and then of course they stopped doing the coupon thing years before.

Anyhow that's what I think rep points are like, you save them cause you think one day they might be useful, but they never are. ;)

Actually, we have something in the making at the moment that will make the rep system pretty much obsolete. I may be launching it this week or I'll wait to do it when I get back from summer break :D

The "thanks" button can only be used ten times per day. (soon to be renamed the "mobbing" button :p)

That is great. The "thanks"-feature has become pretty useless so it should be removed or changed.

(btw, my rep points do not increase when receiving "thanks" from members now and are not shown in my rep page on profile. So probably some kind of error )

Are you sure you mean the rep points and not rep power? I can see your rep points fine with all of the comments on your profile page. I'll double check with a drone account.

I am sure :D

Try to "thanks" one of my post here. Then you will see that your thanks will not be shown in my rep page (on profile) and my points will not increase :o

I have recieved several "thanks" since my rep points / rep site on profile were updated. And I tried to "thanks" one of your post now and it was updated immediately on your rep site (+rep points), so probably only some "local" problems with my account :)

Maybe no one is thanking you but me :p

Aha! Those are Way to Go's

They don't show up on your profile since you receive 0 points for those. :D

Actually, I'm thinking of renaming the Thanks button to "High Five" since that's what most people use it for.

The problem with the Thanks button is that it's a separate plugin that has no support. All we need is a newer version of vBulletin to come out that is not compatible with it, and it won't function any longer. So at the moment, we are brainstorming other ways to let members show their appreciation. :p

hey I have a question - not that it really matters, I'm just nosy. If you use the 'add reputation' button is it different than just saying Thanks?

The thanks button adds five points to the person's account no matter who you are. That's thanking. Using the add/subtract rep point - each person in the forum has varying levels of rep power, when you use the rep button, you are giving that person whatever points you have as your rep power. For instance you have 65 points as rep power. You would be giving that person that amount of points :D

If you choose to neg rep them, you neg rep half of your power = -32 points.

With the add/minus rep power, you can add your own personal comment which the member can view in their profile.

You can disable the "thanks" feature and only leave the "add to this user`s reputation"-feature. The "add to this users rep"-feature is a more objective way of showing appreciation

oh thanks, I didn't realize that it was a difference in points - I thought the only difference was that you could make a comment. Or ummm hide the fact that you're thanking someone. :o

I've been trying to be careful with my "thanking" usage lately because I've been afraid I'd be classified as one of the mobsters :o. It's difficult, because sometimes there's something in a post I can relate to and don't feel making a reply with a quote is always necessary. I try to keep my posts on the upbeat side, but it seems lately everything is so negative. And I ALMOST neg repped someone the other day, decided that was an uncool thing to do, turned off my computer and read my book for a while to cool off.
It must be the new meds I'm on (that's my story and I'm stickin' to it...:D))

The thing about the rep system is that it is too "yes" or "no" - black or white. We need a much more robust award system that can give awards and incentives for a myriad of things. That is actually in the making. Stay tuned :D

Or maybe ditch the whole rep system? Dont see any meaning in it anyway.

Actually, we haven't made a point of making it having a point. :p

There are plans to revamp this system, but it's going to have to wait until my return from holiday.

I would suggest that any revamp be preceded by a membership poll on what the members here would like to see...including keeping the status quo.

I see the 'add to rep' and 'report post' icons but where is 'neg rep' ? I have no plans to hit it but just wondering where it is since it comes up here quite often. Thanks.

The neg rep button is part of the 'add to rep' button. When you click it, you will see a pop up that ask if you approve or disapprove of the users post. The approve will add rep, the disapprove will neg rep.

Hmmm I've used that as a 'thanks' many many many times. So every time I've clicked on the star I've given that person an amount equal to half my power ? Well you're all very welcome indeed. I wondered why it asked if I approved or not. :o Thank you exit stage left.

More than that, your _full_ Rep power. It's only when you "neg Rep" that it's cut in half.
