Here is your post....

THANKING MEMBERS

Just so you know, the option to "Thank" members is set up to enable everyone to "Thank" someone for a informative and/or helpful post. Some people are using this as an "I Agree" button. Sorry - that's not its intention. It is an incentive to encourage members to post quality posts - it is not to be used for every post you agree with - this dilutes its meaning and purpose.

Please do not abuse or use this tool other than for what it is intended for. I know this is subjective, but please try not to overuse this tool. If I feel you are you're thanking people too much, I'll be be relooking at some of these posts and removing the "Thanks".

I'm confused about why this came up? If it's none of my business I understand.

On the "agree" button part, sometimes another poster said the exact same thing you wanted to say, but you still wanted to state your opinion or give your 2 cents, so you thank that person. Maybe some people are shy about posting and feel more comfortable just saying thank you.

I don't know how to quite word this without sounding rude, that is NOT my intention but....what is the big deal about "thanking people too much"?

It is an incentive to encourage members to post quality posts

For myself, I cannot post quality posts about online gambling too much, I am just not informed as others. I give my opinion on many things, but they certainly are not quality posts in my mind, compaired to some of the intelligent members who have been online gambling for many more years than myself, or who run their own websites.

Maybe I missed something somewhere, if I did please forgive me. I just found this thread strange.

Again NOT meaning to sound rude, but why bother?

if i have helped you with a gambling situation, please thank me.

Anybody wanna go toe to toe?

I stand for a fair game, and i will challenge anything and everything that smacks of something different. However it is couched.

Stand clear, heavy machinery moving here.

Of course it's your business, you are a member here and we have an open door policy at Casinomeister :D

Simply put, the "thanks" button is sometimes overused a bit. I just wanted members to keep this in check because it can be a very useful tool. Like I said, it's very subjective - but when there is a thread where someone says the sky is blue, or I like slots - and they are bestowed with thanks, this dilutes the effect of thanking someone. There is a difference between thanking someone for contributing to the forum with helpful/useful information and agreeing. Maybe I should have an "I agree" button instead. :D

I don't really mind it being used as an "I agree" button, just so it's used with restraint.

I'm always open for ideas as well.

I like the idea of a I agree button
in some post I have looked for a LOL 1 also
alot of times when I have Thanked they have either said
what I was gonna say or I liked an agreed with their post
instead of taking up space an saying well said I just hit the Thanks
Button

Like I did with you for adding the n/p's with 7Sultans withdrawels:D

How about no rep points given for the thanks but only added to the total number of thanks received at the top. Rep points can then only be scored by clicking on the scales and which are much harder to toss all round as you have to spread some rep to others before giving it to the same person again. Furthermore, one might not necessarily choose to give the max rep pts (indicated in rep power) to others if there are say 3 boxes to check eg 3 pts, 5 pts, max reps. Too much hard work Bryan? Sorry about that.

Several ways to do this.
1. Give out a certain thank credits each months, this way people will not hand out thx. Example 20 thx credits per month = 20 thx When they out, they are out.

2. Each post will give 1 thx creadit. So the more post the more credits.
Each user will receive 4 thx creadits each month.
If a user sayes thx in a post the thx credit is transfered to the user that was thxed. In this way we will have a type of economical thx credits. (referal signup to new users gives 5 thx credits, wow thx casino referal bonus :) )

3. Leave it as it is. To much work to do the others in this list, go have a beer instead.

4. rep based, if i give away one thx credit i will loose one rep point.

And if didnt keep you busy, you would probably be on the Bahamas drinking beer and having fun, and we cant allow that :) Couse if we cant then you cant, now back to work... :)

i think you could have a thumbs up/thumbs down kind of button. At the top of the post or at the bottom have to buttons that you can click, one a little hand giving a thumb up, one a little hand giving a thumb down. then have a number at the side e.g

(thumbs up image) 5 (thumbs down image) 1

to show that 5 people agreed with the post and 1 didn't. i think this is implemented for comments on youtube video's. it will allow people to say if they agree or not and the thanks button can just be left for informative posts.

I like that.

But I also think the thanks is nice, I use it when I think someone contributed something worthwhile and also when I agree and have nothing to add. It's nice to be able to express both with just a keystroke.

Maybe the scales for the "great post" and the thanks for "I agree and have nothing to add".

Really, I think it's fine the way it is, as long as no one runs around and adds thanks everywhere just for the heck of it. It would be a shame to curtail everyone because a few are going overboard with something.

Kind of like making gambling illegal because a few go overboard with it....

I must say I like the first of Satchmo's options (other than the obvious attraction of option 3 LOL!!!)

This would work like a budget - if you have a finite number of "thank you credits" (perhaps based on criteria such as length of membership or reputation at the start of the scheme or whatever) it should result in more considered awards of thanks.

That said, I think Dom makes a good point in her final two paragraphs above.

I say if you want to give Thanks in the thread give it to them.

... did you check out the number of thanks ive given:eek:, i was so upset i pm ed bryan about it, i feel like the casinomeister thank you queen, i thank everyone who has given the time to read my posts or have posted something that i find useful or funny ect. like you said tom whats it gonna buy ya?:D to me its good manners like a thank you , excuse me or im sorry tools we all should use in everyday life, but im prolly wrong as usuall.....................laurie

Agree....

I also like the thought of the 2 buttons ...the thanks and the agree one...that way it separates the two issues being written about...one for a query being answered and one for an important issue brought to our attention that we might have missed otherwise...just my 2.5 cents worth...:D

Good Manners in my book also.

Or a Service Banner
I want one because my wife is a B lol she's got one.

Once again to muck it up, if you have agree and a dissagree button, then you would have to have neutral button also.

Couse if you read some of the post maybe i dont agrre or disagrre, but i would like to be neutral in the matter. If this button dont exist then my count dosent counts as much as the agree or dissagree buttons.

The way we can go is to use the rep point system, couse then we can give and take rep points and if i have no opinion n the matter, well then i dont give or take any rep points.

By the this text was written i could run for presidency, couse i think no one will really know what i mean, and thats what politics is about. Talk like it's important, and everyone is lisening, but you just say bork bork.

Thanks all - some good comments/suggestions here. I'll put my brain into gear and see what I can come up with.

BTW - I never liked the idea of a thumbs down/thumbs up button. I feel that this would just instigate flame wars and such.
