New Forum upgrade

No paddy's day for me.

I've got about half of the colors done. I need to finish the other half, and then it's on to the images.

But it's time for lunch...

I wish you an easy path with the VB upgrade. I also detested this part of my job. Especially with major version upgrades. One step at a time. Hope we get back the familiar CM feel soon More coffee and beer needed mayeb ?

I've gotten most of the colors squared away, but there are a few places that need tweeking.

Some of the images are up - more to do tomorrow.

Technology always moves forward and we have to keep up with the changes whether we like it or not

It may take some getting used to, but in a few weeks you probably won't notice much difference.

One thing that has changed are the post buttons - they are way tinier and scattered around in odd places. That's going to take some gettin' used to.

Why are some of the smilies normal sized and some are smaller?
Did we have the selection of post icons before or did I just not notice them?
Why are some of the "shield thingies" highlighted and some are not?
When are we going to get a choice of forum background colors back?
*sigh* This is making my head hurt more than it already is...
Maybe I'll wait until Monday and hopefully the changes will be all done?
(I feel like a freakin' toddler in kindergarten again, learning where to put all my "toys" )
And I'm getting to old for change to be a good thing. There's nothing wrong with being comfortable with the old

For what it's worth, when GPWA did this upgrade to vB4 a few weeks back I was like "this is crap" and now it seems like nothing ever happened

Just takes some time a) to get used to and b) once the main upgrade is done, for CM to bring in the bells and whistles and bits that got missed. Then the tweaks start to make sure everyone got something they like

Simmos Style.

I've always used Simmo's styling since i joined... will this be an option in future with the upgrade?

I'm having a problem with the forum home page displaying incorrectly. Not sure if this is something with my computer or is an error? It always displayed correctly(in a box that fit in the screen without having to scroll right) before the upgrade. Have attached a screen shot so you can see what I mean.

Ps. Just noticed on the preview before I posted this that the image I have linked to is forcing the image to go outside the box that my post would go in. Not sure why?

Just want to add that some sections needs higher color contrasts. For example when you visit a profile. The fonts` color is white with a light blue background.

It shows an old list, with Vinylweatherman in 2nd place and sjn leading.
My name is not showing at all!
Bigzebud is leading with 117.804, just checked the 32RED website.
VWM is not even on the list (yet)

I think they are only smaller in the table next to the reply to thread field. When you use them, they appear normal - as in this guy: :notworthy

The post icons were there, but they were different - personally, I think the new ones suck.

There is a legend at the bottom of each forum that explains the color coding of the shields .Colored shields mean "unread posts", grey shields mean "no new posts etc. The old forum had small unabtrusive envelopes; the new graphics were fugly and "in yer face" so I replaced them with meister images.

I'm slowly but surely getting the colors back. I have a copy of the old "styles" but implementing them in the new rewritten styles is a dounting task. I have no map of the area and am having to do a lot of hit 'n miss

Thanks - it may have something to do with the table that contains the Slotmeister leader boards. I may have to move those elsewhere.

Once I have the current style finished, I'll be working on the others (Classic Gold, Halloween, Christmas, etc.) since I have to "learn" this one first. That will be happening next week some time.

As for the post icons, I think they suck and I'll be replacing them. There are still a number of images and icons I need to replace to give this forum the special feel it always had. I hate generic easyboard post icons.

Change isn't always good!

I was wondering, why the change?? The website was easy to manuever, easy on the eyes, had great content...Why the change??? I do understand some must change their underwear regularly, but an entire website that worked for thousands??? Change isn't always good when something worked....why break it... (frustration speaking here, from the horrible colors and lack of definition to the way you can view anything)....


Just because your cat is old doen't mean you throw it out and get a new kitten...ya know??? You have to start all over again with the trust and love thing with the darn kitten hoping it will be as good as the old cat you threw out...

Cats aren't forums

The thing is ,the old forum was "end of life" which means there is no further development from the software company (vBulletin), and not much support. Also, the license expired - so it only made sense to upgrade.

The only reason this hasn't been so seamless is that I have to test the colors and layout as I go along. Plus I have to re-install all of the plugins one at a time, not to mention create new graphics. There is no opportunity to do this on a test site. So there ya have it

The content is still here by the way.

Actually, this is the "home" page for the content management system for the forum. Not to be confused with the rest of the website. It's a place where articles and posts from the forum can be uploaded - new blog postings, webcasts etc.

The problem is that the learning curve is way high. I've been reading up on a myriad of FAQs and instructions for most of the afternoon. It's not a simple task to master - yet.

You betcha - but this only works for Admins and up.

I've got a lot done today - the new tabs up top will help somewhat with the navigation to the main site. Blogs, new graphics, new style templates and the CMS section will be happening next week

And it's the beginning of a weekend. Time for a break.
