New to this sports betting scene ...
And so Adam Scott's already cost me a few "freebie' dollars  hey!
Picked the wrong EQUAL FAV didn I ?!?
I'm still researching how the odds work, about "against the spread" and other terms used
and trying to fully understand things (after reading through wikipedia and other "ATS" explanations) ...
    BUT ...
a recently posted "HOT" sportspick on Dallas Mavericks vs. Memphis Grizzlies was
Despite the handicapper "recommendation", closest offered was +4.5 ...
Nearly placed a wager, but no panic here - so I just let it go.
Dallas then LOSES: 105 to 114
Had I followed the advice, would I have been a winner?
Would either bet have been a winner?
Thanks to you if you can assist me to fathom how that works -
my impression is that such result (+4.5) needs for there to be MORE than 9 points difference in score
Does that mean 9 would be a winning bet?
    What figures/betting would mean I would lose... +5, +3.5 ?
what if, say - I'd taken that other team at -4.5 would the outcome still be the same?

Although I get it that the bookies are simply trying to make certain bets more "appealing" -
I'm still quite puzzled actually

Well you're better than me. I tried to start learning this stuff but gave up. At least you know enough of the lingo to make this post. Hopefully someone will be able to answer this for you.

Maybe one day I'll try to learn again because it does seem to be fun or at least it would be a chance of pace from my normal heavy blackjack or roulette play.

Appreciate your response - thanks C
Before posting here I waited a few hours at You must register/login in order to see the link... forum.... bettingadvice... com
after registering there and repeatedly checking my mail for their "permission to post".
Although a "specialist info" site - they're way less active than cm forum ;)
If nothing happens here, I will follow it through there - and (hopefully) I can let y know what they say !?!

    Been Slotting soo long !!!
Jus couldn't take no mo of the mindlessness - so have just completely uninstalled all my favourites.
The entire download lot (32Red - and me Club Rouge too, the Poker sites, others )
    God !!!
Almost a decade of incurable gambler madness; Now we're into trying another.
But then, Sporting Event outcomes appeal as a saner, more sensible gambling option.... unlike my own robotic behaviour, not far from those whose addiction to pokies I'd always detested.
Was never into that sitting ther, pushing buttons, pulling handles thing.
And yet, online I've been at their mercy every day since 2006 - and especially after 2011 when I hit a consolation biggie in the GSOS.
So not busted yet; But tired of the insanity.

HEY! What's that green grass stuff I see over there?

Okay i like gambling on sports so I will answer even tho I don't bet handicaps.

Both bets would be losing. +4.5 means your team has a 4.5 point start. So any result less than a defeat by more than 4.5 points wins. Eg if your team wins or draws at all you win. If your team loses say 100 points to 96 you win as the + 4.5 means it would be 100.5 to 100 as you add the 4.5 on.

But if the score was 100 to 95 or less you lose as adding 4.5 means you are still less than the other teams 100.

Works the same way at -4.5. means if you back a team at -4.5 they have to win by more than 4.5 points. so if they won by at least 100 to 95 the -4.5 wins. But if they won 100 to 98 then -4.5 bet would lose.

Basically +4.5 means add on 4.5 points to that teams starting score -4.5 means take off 4.5 from teams starting score.

    Much appreciated Paul; Ta Muchly!
Your explanation was way more help than any I found elsewhere (looks like Cleveland agrees)
And yes, I'm also quickly becoming aware that handicapping odds don't offer a lot to anyone who wants a halfway decent ROI.
So even though a few rock solid tips meant profit on my first four or five bets, the bankroll's quickly reverted to my original balance after a couple of losses.
At least I still have that 100 bucks to spend...
Might just plonk some on Adam Scott again - short price fav with 2 days play to go
but better than even money at least ;)

Hmmm. Maybe Cleveland's Roulette makes more sense ?
Might even just go reinstall 32Red and random pick some numbers there. :lolsign:

    Thanks guys!
