My problems with online and offline gambling

This thread is so good,

Like many of you the fruities kicked me off, we had a local motorway services within a mile walk which looking back was a bit of a disaster given my liking for flashing lights.

I've had my moments over the years but at this precise moment I can say I'm happy to play with money that is 'spare' & any winnings from this go towards bits for the house/kids. I think as you get older you get a bit wiser definitely, you've almost experienced & seen it all to know better then to go down that road & with age comes more responsibility. This is not to say that occasionally I don't have 'rash' moments, but on the whole my gambling is more controlled now then it's ever been.

I used to hide my gambling when married to ex biatch ... but being free now i can happily indulge. I went through a period 2008 ish where I gambled insane amounts most of it online some offline. I hated it and got to a very low point. Tried everything to quit. Even installed different gaming blocking software but being in the line of work I was took me about 10 mins to take the thing apart. It did not work. Spent or wasted literally 100s of 1000s no joke. But money was rolling in back then (and rolling out ) Quit for around 2 years but fucking love the game too much. Love the interaction on the forums, the chat , the drama , its not just wheels spinning. Plus Im building a little website which is for my passion rather than profit so its a big part of "leisure time"

So because of the above reasons I totally re-invented the way I gamble. Learned the art of doing it in a responsible way that never leaves me short ever.

I use every RG tool online mainly depo limits and TAB --- but rare if ever now SE. Playing responsibly is possible Im living proof of that. But i would not advise for someone who truly feels its too powerful a pull the games the bright lights. I don't like loosing ever... who does but these days when I loose its not the house or a family.

I really feel for people who struggle and it becomes a demon rather than fun. I know im never gonna get rich from gambling unless I hit 65 rhinos or DOA WL on max bet. Which I wont ;-)

But in the end we make our choice. I never moan about losses I take the hit but now its always under control. Right now im on a short 1 week break, my casino list is pretty small , 10 max I think with active accounts. Next week I will hit it again but only within my own set limits.

Never gamble to pay the rent - and never the gamble the rent....

read the above in a Charles Buokowski novel i read years back and I hold by that today every day

Well said Deeplay!

Met some very strange people along the way that were into the more dubious side of emptying machines.

Indeed, we came across some proper 'characters' lol, in fact I'd probably say these characters gave me laughs, scares and headaches.

I know VWM on here reminded me not so long back of a 'regular' at Hilton Park Services on the M6 whom I totally forgotten about.

'Spider' was always hanging around most visits like a bad smell, trying to scrounge a few quid or tokens to try and 'make-a-raise'

Knowing Jon I'd add:

Balaclava

Loaded shotgun

Threatening Language

Moaning :eek::eek:

erm you are talking about CM's 'Mr Nice guy' here ya know, my fans won't appreciate it :p

Aw go on then guilty of the bottom 2, too much of a scaredy cat for the others!

We were in this night club the once, packed with about 20 door staff on and around the dance floor where this quiz machine was just situated.

One of the 'part-time' friends with us that night (infamous for his 'beat the machine' dodgy tactics) decides to pull out his solanoid sliding tool and try and empty the £1 coin tube of this Crystal Maze SWP machine

I couldn't fuck off away from him fast enough the idiot, without grassing him or giving him away, I headed for the exit only to have to sacrifice almost a full pint.

He wasn't content with the fact we'd made over £500 between 3 of us in one day from legal slot cheats!

Interesting what is the more dubious side to emptying machines??!

I have seen, or know people who have smashed into machines crudely with a sledgehammer, drilled into the side to access the cash, smashed/picked the lock to the cash door, drilled a small hole in the perfect place to trigger the machine to empty itself, use an electric shock devise to make machines pay out every coin they have, stuff the payout chute with tissue trapping players winning coins from dropping into the payout tray, and returning later to retrieve them, use a strimming wire to rack up unlimited credits.

I can recall 2 names out of the countless shady people I met over my 20 year "career" A guy called Alan who used the "stuffed tissue trick" I bumped into him many times and became a "fruitie friend" often giving him a lift from one service station to the next when i bumped into him lol And a guy from the Southend area called Mark Moore. Mark was a fruit machine genius who knew how to skilfully play most fruit machines and knew when they were worth playing. He hopefully is a millionaire now as he was that good!

Wow. I suspect that today's machines are like Forte Nox ? My local bookie told me the other day that a regular had just lost his house because of today's machines. :(

fobt in bookies

You cant win on those machines. They high % low payout. In theory they pay 90% plus payout, but in reality the wins are small rotating wins, just to keep you playing. Bookies keep 60% plus on those machines. Online ones just as bad if not worse. Mugs game. Keep well clear of online slots & bookie shop machines. I seen a bloke lose 14 grand in one afternoon in williamhill a few yrs ago.

Maybe someone should send Stever a private message to warn him that his wife has hijacked his account in protest about his gambling?

It is actually about timing , not 90 prct or 60 or .......

Gambling is more than winning or losing. It's the challenge. Some find it fun, and some do'nt. each on his own.
But you made a good point. your loss is usually more than your winnings. Unfortunately that is the nature of this game. If you can'nt handel it, then it would be wise to stop gambling.
you're right, I've also seen guys who lost everything. bcuz they did'nt gamble for fun. The main thing is, you gonna have to gamble with money you can afford to lose. (NOT ANYMORE). whether is it a tenner or 1000 marks , except to you . And no need to tell me or other members, how much money you have or that kind of stuff if you do'nt want to. After all, It's ur life and ur money.
But bear sumthing in ur mind, U can'nt fool urself either. you just can feel it from inside whether u're doing it for fun OR , to destroy urself . take my Word for it.
Let's face it my freind, everyone like to win (I'm no exception of that rule).
But the moment you start getting frustrated an upset bcuz you lost ur money,, the moment you ask urself (just right after you lost ur deposit): why the hell did i do it ?? IS THE RIGHT TIME TO CONSIDER TO TAKE A BREAK OR STOP GAMBLING.
just play the damn game for fun and i can sure u , u gonna have a great time. Hoe knows , u may be the lucky one an hit the jackpot.

I can understand your philosophy about only playing with money that you can afford to lose and only playing for the fun of it win or lose. But I suspect that most of us have crossed that line after beginning a session with that very commendable philosophy.

The day comes where you plan a session for that evening. You buy some beers in for it in the hope of having an extended session while getting drunk or enjoying watching your sport/movies or listening to your music with a nice 100% bonus only to find your deposit reduce to nothing way too quickly and your sat with loads of beers still and hours of planned play time still ahead of you.
There has been many times that I have thought "feck it, just another one deposit".
Or is that just me?

That's the easy part.
The next day get up an face it : it is more than often, the hard part.
And it's not philosophy ( as u call my statment in ur post ). Gambling is Not brain surgery, Nor a science. It's just the matter of deposit / push the button / wait an see whats gonna happens. SO , be careful lol , not to hit the button too often !!
btw, NO , it's not just you ( fair point an good post ).

Yeah. Wake up. Cough, fart, splutter. Check internet banking transactions and balance. Check internet casino's visited, balances and (fingers crossed)Withdrawal requests.
Paracetamol,back to bed. :(

I consider myself a gambling addict.

When I'm not gambling online, I'm gambling at the locals.

If I'm not doing those two, I'm watching streamers on Twitch.

If I'm not doing those three, I'm watching YouTube videos of gambling.

If I'm not doing those four, I'm here or at Slot Fanatics.

Gambling is my only vice. I don't smoke, I don't drink and I don't do drugs. I do keep it under control but I'm obsessed with it. I've gambled perhaps everyday but 7 calendar days and have only lost $645 so far. I'm a low-roller (usually no more than $1) so it keeps the losses down. I have a distrust of my locals but I still go. I'm sometimes disturbed by the sight of seniors gambling away and fear that if I make it to 75, I'll be in these casinos playing max bet with my social security.

I just can't quit. I like it too much. However, I know I'm walking the tightrope. When I saw Fatso win big last week, I took a bonus from Bet Victor and tried to duplicate his Playboy hit and failed. It's a competition for me. It might be time to talk it over with a counsellor...

When I see a big winning video the last game that I want to play on is the one that they have recently won big on

Yes, that's a big mistake I made. People on losing streaks often end up doing that and I made a grievous error. I won't be playing Creatures of the Black Lagoon to chase someone else's recent massive win.

Yeah I steer clear 9/10 also, in fact slots like DOA where I see 2-3 wild lines or 5 scatter posted I stop away for a week or more.

Does work the other way on occasion tho, read on the casinos home page that IR was the top payer for that week and thought I'd try a tenner. Took less than 50 spins to land my 1st 4-Reel WD!

(Granted the latter was a very long time ago :p)

Whenever I come across a casino stating "their hottest games of the week" and "******** game has paid out 182% this week" and even " the coldest slots this week" I steer clear of all of them.

Great thread geordiecolin, like many other's in this thread. I'am a gambling addict in as much that I love to play.I have been an active daily player for the better part of 20 year's and yes I have been pinched a few times.
By pinched I mean that I have had one of those time's that I wish I had stopped just a bit earlier. But I keep on playing and I do well most of the time i'am perhaps a bit ahead? But winning or losing I love it. And I get to meet the most creative group of pep's on and off line.

Here is about the only place where you can get the infusion of truth and bull that it seem's to take for us hardliner's to get us going.I love to laugh at myself 1st and other's later.

My 1st time playing online I was about 35 or so I really don't remember? But it was at one of the old style casino's that seemed to permeate the time period and I was depositing BIG I mean $1000.00 at a time and betting really big. This show's my newbie attitude and it cost me but not at 1st I won some really nice jackpot's.$75,000.00 and 2 $50,000.00 and then BAM! I lost everything I played and I still played like a fool. i lost about $100,000.00 in 6 months and then I slowed to a crawl and then got wiser and that is when the addiction was most apparent.

I hate to lose But who like's it? I pulled myself together and looked long and hard at my problem's and placed them in the order they deserved. And beside's the lose's gambling was not at the top but it was in the top ten.

So I made a promise to myself and to all other's directly involved in my life and I have stood by that promise all of these year's.I still play daily and I still win and lose but I do it with a bit more brain's and less ball's.Great thread! Peace Out! Out Of The Mist! shewoff

Yeah this was a rare exception lol, I usually steer well clear also, in fact I don't even get as far as reading that nonsense these days!

Just set a new world record btw, fastest £30 bust in 14 years, all on minimum bet, think I'll make in in time to Rio to collect my medal

Thank you Shewoff. I think its great to hear other peoples stories :)

On the face of it I guess that most would think that the time you realize you have a problem is when you lose heavily, but it seems that it is not always the case.
Sometimes its when it effects relationships or it has a huge effect on your personal life, such as eviction or insolvency. I recall being in my late teens living alone and blowing everything on slots one week without paying my rent, buying food or to feed the electric meter.

Actually, just spending time in this forum helps take away my desire to deposit as much as I otherwise could do.
