You remember those spiders in Pakistan after the floods last year? They took to the trees and absolutely covered them with webs - someone just sent me this, the same thing is happening in Australia. These photos kinda make my skin crawl, but it's pretty amazing to see - especially since it's so far away from me. :p

never a pleasent experience ..one guy woke up to find this big snake curled up in his groin area ..it wasnt poisoness ..but he didnt know that

he was clearly starting to freak out and things were not helped when someone suggested to him we could just shoot it :D army humnour can kill you even if the snakes wont

Many times I have had the thought of leaving this cold country up in the north and live in an exotic place somewhere.
You two reminded me why it wouldn't be such a good idea
I'm not scared of spiders or snakes, but that's because there is no huge or poisoning ones here.

I wonder how many spiders it was on those fields in the pictures and what in the world makes them start doing all those nets for?:eek2:
Wikipedia here I come...

i certainky saw some sights in the jungle spiders snakes and all manor of creepy crawlies

but the worse thing was those dam mosquitoes they used to love me id get eaten alive by them..but i knew people who could stroll around half naked and not get bitten..me id be covered in repelent covered up completely and still got savaged by them...:(

Them pics just gave me the heebee geebies brrr, I shivered seeing that many spiders.

Spiders and rats, a big no no for me....don't like them at all:eek2:

Eeeww that makes my skin crawl just looking at them. I live in the city and have never seen anything like that ever here in Aus. If I have a huntsman in the house I can't sleep till its out.....:eek2::eek:

In the article it was saying these are wolf spiders - we have wolf spiders here but they're not very big. We don't have a long enough growing season for spiders I think. :)

Anyhow, someone mentioned at the time of the floods in Pakistan that as creepy as it is to have the spiders, these spiders with help deal with the raging hordes of mosquitos that come after floods. Hence stopping the spread of diseases and making life slightly less miserable.

But yeah I think I'd be staying inside until they've move on. Any more than 2 spiders at once gives me the heebie jeebies.

When I was in Phoenix (where they don't have mosquitoes!) we had these tiny little ants living in our back yard. We'd have 50 people out there for an hour and the ants wouldn't touch them, but me - I'd walk out for a second and, they'd swarm over my feet and bite the hell out of me. Ant bites burn at first, but then after I'd get the same kind of reaction as from mosquito bites, all welts and itchy. I'm not sure if they attacked me because they didn't like me or if they thought I was something to eat!

I read another article on discovery about these spiders in Oz that was kind of interesting - wolf spiders don't build webs, they're hunters and they catch their food the old fashioned way (by jumping out and mugging it) ;) so these webs aren't really webs per se - it's the silk the spiders spin when they're 'ballooning' which is different. When they're ballooning, the spider does one strand of silk and then lets the wind carry them off to somewhere better - like a mountain climber rappelling down a mountain.

So all those strands of silk are just leftover from that - which IMO makes it even more amazing. That's a LOT of spiders flying through the air!
