I'm currently watching The Crown on Netflix. It's a historical drama about the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. I also just finished watching The Boys on Amazon Prime. It's a dark and comedic superhero series that has a lot of shock value.

Best TV I've seen in a LONG time was The Traitors on BBC1 just before Christmas. Totally gripping - loved it!

Don't really watch regular TV, but aside from my regular Youtube stints, do have a binge on Netflix every now and then, and recently added Amazon Prime. I had heard a lot of bad things about their exclusive 'The Rings of Power' series, and thus didn't expect too much going in. I was however pleasantly surprised by this show's first season!
Any 'ole fantasy fan or even die hard Tolkien purist, should give this a go i.m.o. It's really well done, and seems promising going forward.

Absolutely loved Boardwalk Empire. One of the best shows in recent years for me. Seen it twice now and could easily do a third.
Just ploughing through The Rig, a six- part mini-series that arrived a few days ago on Prime.
Featuring none other than the excellent Iaan Glen, tasked with keeping the crew of a derelict offshore rig platform out of harm's way when things go tits up.
Believing it to be more along the vein of London's Burning or Disaster DIY, because let's face it, one's pulse isn't exactly set into an uncontrolled frenzy of excitement at oil rig platforms, it soon descends into supernatural territory, "the water and the light wants us to see" etc
Just a short series, and things kick along at a reasonable pace, with acting ranging from pretty good to pretty suspect. But all in all, it's not bad, even if completely derivative, having seen many of its themes a million times before, just better.
Worth a watch but Fortitude did it 50 times better. As did the Fog.

Actually managed to watch something sll the way through to the end last week. Some Hindi movie called RRR on Netflix. was some 3 hours long, but do recommend. Pretty wholesome stuff ;D

Saw this advertised (Martin Compston?) and thought I'll give that a go.
Only to realise later that day, settled and ready to go, that despite my 10,000 channels (of mostly crap) that is one I don't have
Some stuff on Apple TV I want to try too and Sky have offered 6 month's free of this channel, can I get the bloody thing to work......

A bit far-fetched, but I am a fan of old martial arts movies, so didn't mind that at all. Non-stop action from start to finish with some great choreography on the fight scenes and some original ideas.
Never thought I would watch a Hindi film, you seen any others? It was pretty epic.

@bamberfishcake Was the first Hindi movie n I've seen too. I hear a fair few of those movies are kind of exaggerated, and half way through I did sigh and say "Ffs.. Here we go..." as everyone started dancing.. but by the time the 2nd dance came around I was down with it. Nice moves.

Just binge-finished "The Rig" on Amazon Prime. So-so. I really enjoyed the UK murder mystery set on the oil rig, sort of "And Then There Were None". Forget the name ATM. (Rig 45 - found it just now.)
Then yesterday, I watched "Speak No Evil". Like others have said, the ending was not believable. I mean, it's a fictional story, and so your disbelief has to be suspended, but the ending stretched things too much.

Have just re-watched Taxi driver after 30 odd years!
Had forgotten how good it is, can't claim to have watched every de niro film out there, but would be surprised if this doesn't rank close as his best role.

Hard to beat prime deNiro circa '74 to '80, with Raging Bull a masterclass in paranoia.
Prior to Heat - probably his last great role, I'd definitely chuck the darkly comic remake of Cape Fear in there, for the 'cinema laugh' scene alone!

Luckily caught the last showing at our cinema of Godzilla Minus One, as luck would have it!
Set in the dying embers of WWII, prior to Japan's capitulation, a young kamikaze pilot and his brethren encounter Godzilla, who embarks on a killing spree, whilst our main protagonist freezes with fear when tasked with firing on it, leading to deaths akimbo.
In the post-war rubble of Japan he meets a woman survivor, and the child she's caring for, from another mother. Soon he finds work as a minesweeper, and the couple rebuild their lives as a family unit of sorts.
It's not long before Godzilla resurfaces however, and much carnage ensues. Cities are destroyed, cruisers flung about like toys, and it comes down to the Japanese civilians, many still crestfallen from the fallout of the war. Can they defeat this unstoppable, death-ray-spewing monster to the depths from whence it came?
Well long story short, probably. For all the word of mouth this film received, it plays out like every other Asian Cinema classic, in that it always ends up greater than the sum of its parts, and that upon reflection, it can be considered an all-time great.
Less rubber monsters and more redemption and the human spirit, this film encompasses all that is great about wanting to live, even when at your lowest. The acting's great and earnest as you'd expect, with no facial gymnastics or sass-talking while preaching to the audience about what bad people they are, whilst the SFX are stripped down to what made Godzilla such an apocalyptic beast to be feared in the first place.
The definitive Godzilla, and all this on a $15 million budget too. Can't say fairer than that ?

Just finished the five Rurouni Kenshin movies and quite enjoyed the ride. Not the most earth shattering experience, but I was decently entertained all the way through.

I think i have to check them out, never knew they made any movies.
The original animated show and the one the movies seem to be based on were both made mid to late 90s so its been a while.

Must admit, Geordie Colin shared a good site to stream the latest movies & shows, cinema releases etc, without needing a vpn or having to sign up to anything. Just need to make sure an anti virus program is running.

I've since spent an hour or so per week checking on the latest woke garbage thats been released via that site, and maybe twice a year I can even find something that hasn't got some obvious agenda behind it, and then all ya gotta do is hit play! yeehaw!

Gladiator is one of the greatest films ever made.
Excellent, so with that out of the way, the trailer for the sequel nobody wanted or asked for just dropped.
There are literal like-for-like scenes replicated from the original, and even 'My man' Denzel featuring prominently.
This looks like it could be one of the worst films ever, eliciting little more than "hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!" from me
What a crock of shit, incoming!
Still, it'll be interesting to see how many Razzies it garners

Been watching Secret Level, an anthology based off various videogame IPs, from the creator of the outstanding Love, Death & Robots series, Tim Miller.
Blur Studio animators are in their element here, with each franchise being given a unique twist, with some short stories being vague and open-ended, and others somewhat self-contained, yet all managing to be varied and interesting.
It's clear from the outset that this is unholy levels of craftsmanship in these vignettes, whether it be the opening Dungeons & Dragons, the Arnie-voiced feel-good New World, Keanu Reeves-lent Armoured Core cynicism, or the standout preternatural fatalism of Warhammer 40K.
With the likes of Crossfire, whilst not the best of the bunch and still discernible for its videogame-level writing and 'plot', we're now in the realms of near-lifelike animation, were it not for one or two minor tells, which just shows you how far technology's come in that regard....
As for the series' most 'divisive' outing, look no further than their gnarly take on Pacman. It's certainly.....out there

What better way to see out the festive period than to catch up on a film I'd been wanting to see for a while, based on its supposed 'unique' horror take, The Substance.
Not really into body horror as a general rule, I remember watching Society many years ago and distinctly not digging it, but had heard Demi Moore nailed this performance, in what critics had labelled a 'career best'.
Needless to say, she portrays an aging film star about to be flung on the scrapheap, and so resorts to taking a mysterious serum that produces a younger likeness of herself, through which she gets to relive the Hollywood dream all over, yet sharing the same consciousness with her 'old' self, which goes into slumber and has to be swapped back with the current incarnation, every week without fail
It rips from the likes of Picture of Dorian Gray, Elephant Man, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Carrie and just about everything else, as one soon realizes that this is a self-insert by the director and her own failings, lacking any hint of self-awareness, when in reality, it ought to have been a much better, barbed critique.
The missus was almost moved by this film, so beats me!....but alas, expect not anything resembling horror or social commentary. It's just a black comedy, written by a woman - and £5 I'll never get back
4 slime pools/ out of 10 - stick to moisturisers
