Lets vote on this and see whether MGS will act when they see the numbers, maybe they dont have someone reading threads.

This is about "autodownload", lets called it a feature, that downloads every single game to your HDD, even the ones you will or never used.

Question is:
"Should MGS disable autodownload feature"

Yes/No

Definately YES for me.
Yesterday again, new games released, only 4 games but ofcourse it started to download the ENTIRE catalogue again, which took hours.
Hours with stuttering reels, lobby not or very slow responding, and about 20-25GB of harddrivespace taken for no use.

Best thing to do now is just open the software, login and minimize and leave it alone for an hour or so until its finished.

Few typos, lol, I made myself laugh.

"lets called it a feature" should say "lets call it a feature"
"even the ones you will or never used." should say "even the ones you never used"
sorry

First time downloading itself is not that much of a problem, client actually handles background dowloading pretty well. Only hickups I experience during first time download is when either my AV is scanning downloaded files, just a short 1-2 second lag and not on every game, most likely slots with bigger file sizes. I think that background downloading has lower priority than playing and it is not causing serious lag issues because of that.

Real problem is when client starts updating slots and I think that this is because updating has higher priority than play.

If its not priority issue than it must be that clients verifying process has the highest priority and is causing lag because it starts verifying many games in shorter time and is source of lag in both downloading and updating.

Now, if verifying is the cause I`m getting tempted to break this rule because they are changing small size files rather than main game files which should be bigger in size.

I have never had an issue with MG software but this latest update is terrible. Bloated software that hangs continually updates and re-loading the list is endless. Im on a super fast Labtop and now it just crawls along. And the way the software is now re-downloading every friggin game is bad it could be funny.

100 million percent yes for me. I got a new computer last Friday, and as such, had to do a fresh install of 32Red. Lost track of how many hours it took, and how many Gigs of hard drive space.

But between MG and Microsoft, I was ready to kill someone. Did I mention I hate Microsoft?

Ha ha....like I'd have the first clue where to even attempt to do ANY of that.

They should make it something that ONLY takes place when the client is idle. The problem is that the update jumps in so damn quick that it even stops the LAUNCH process of the client, since it is updating even before you can get past the login. The process is so intensive that EVERYTHING slows to a crawl, you can't even go and do something else like browse the internet without everything proceeding at a snail's pace whilst the casino is updating.

Perhaps they need a "check for updates" feature such as the ones used for Java and Flash, and update EVERYTHING in one sweep, rather than each casino client taking it's own 1 -2 hours.

This is a MASSIVE update this time, they are rolling out "full HD" - which interestingly is a "patch" for a problem noted ages ago about "blurry text and graphics", which at the time MGS insisted was "our fault", not theirs, and suggested that we should change our graphics settings, etc. What a bunch of liars - it was just another case of "company spin" designed to make an issue "go away" by blaming the innocent. Those who DID buy new PC's, upgrades, changed settings, etc found little or no improvement - now we have PROOF with this update that all along this was a design issue at MGS's end, one only now being corrected globally. I noticed a few "pilot" corrections before, one being Thunderstruck - changed layout and new HD graphics.

This update, the most obvious change is in the text in the lobby, no longer blurred, the game list has clear text, and game names are no longer truncated as some were in the past (notably LOTR had the latter "Fellowship of the ring" truncated by the edge of the frame).

It LOOKS better, but it's come at quite a price.

A definite yes from me- although the benefit is MG's now take up so much space I've culled and uninstalled all but the 3 I regulalry play.

I remember fondly the old days where you could elect to downloaf a lite version of the casino or the lot.

I only play 3 of the VP's and maybe 5 of the slots so having the lot is a waste of disk space.

Oh and my pet peeves those popup promotion screens at startup and chat coming on line in the middle of a game with offers

Cheers

So is this what this update was all about? I never uninstalled this software and had played pretty much every game at some point but last time I played every single game updated itself when I tried to play it. I asked 32Red what this update was for and they told me nobody was updating anything.

That shouldn't be the problem it once was; about 2-years ago (?) MG changed their download system so that once you download all the games for one casino, you don't have to download then for any subsequent MG casinos.

Though having said that, I'm not sure if all the casinos use just one version of the games, or if the new casino just copies it across rather than re-downloading. The latter would mean they still each need vast chunks of your hard-drive.

Maybe VWM knows...?

System is setup in a way that once you download all the games to your HDD all casinos use same files and only thing newly installed casino does is to check which games are already downloaded and up-to-date with latest patches.

Every casino keeps this record in their install folder while games data files are installed in "Documents and settings...." folderS.

Real problem, not for me but for lot of people, is that even if you uninstall every MGS casino client from your computer game data files are left on your HDD and are taking up space, and those files are the ones that make 98%+ of install size, for no real purpose, specially since they update games so often that most of the old leftover files are worthless when new client is installed after few days.

From time it takes to update games and to download them from scratch I am assuming that most of the time they are not changing big files like symbol graphics, but smaller ones such as buttons and who knows what else. I never really bothered with what are all those files for.

One more thing that bothers me about their installation is that they use a really unreasonable number of really small files which take more space on HDD than their real data size is.

Shame on you 32Red - I didn't expect YOU to lie about this.

It is OBVIOUS that these games are updating, else it wouldn't say so when you launch them.

By denying that anything is updating, when it is obvious to anybody that MGS IS updating itself, and frequently, makes players wonder WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO HIDE?

There are so many theories that the RTP on the games is being turned down, and because this is something we know will NEVER be admitted, we might suspect that this is the REAL reason for all these updates, and also why there is this policy of "corporate denial" when a player asks what the updates are for.

Surely there are "release notes" for every update, just as there are SECRET release notes published by RTG for operators (they carelessly left a few available to "mine" from their website;) - how do you think we found out about the 3 RTP settings:) ).

The only thing we have been TOLD is that 4 new games have been added, but NOTHING about a huge chunk of old games being updated.

It also seems that each client does it's own update, rather than using the files downloaded by the first client to be updated. EVERY one of my casinos has taken about 1 hour to update, not just the first one. This means EVERY casino is replacing the files, even though this should not be necessary once one client has downloaded them and placed them in the common store.

It looks like their programers have screwed up again, and this is going to cost the casinos players as they respond to the onerous task of updating by culling the number of casinos they have installed.

Realize I'm in wrong country here but are you all saying the updating of each game as you play it is something unusual or new? I can't remember a time when it didn't update but at least it is fast compared to rtg that takes 2 or 3 minutes every fricken time and I have a fairly new machine and good connection. interesting to compare how things work and look from country to country. thanks

We don't have to worry about this as we haven't gotten any new games since they rolled out this watered down version of mgs.

if i would keep on playing MG....
I would agree 100%.
i am the player let me decide what/when i wanna load a game.
its really anoying w/e they do while you are playing stuttering reels etc....

+1

I think that every client only goes through verification process for every single game once its installed.
Unless their skilled software engineers "fixed" that one too in last update.

That's what it is SUPPOSED to do, but it does NOT take 1 hour and around 100 Mbyte just to "verify" the game files.

I have also spotted the update bar run on several of the existing games, even though only NEW games are supposed to be updating.

Further, why did the MGS clients need to "verify" everything a DOZEN times over in October and November?

I say it was doing no such thing, and that these were a dozen UPDATES, and all but one was for EXISTING games.

As someone said, "don't piss on our heads, and tell us it's raining"

ADMIT the clients are throwing us a mass of updates this last couple of months, and tell us in broad terms what they are.
