Maple and Sun Vegas Casino

I recently used the CasinoMeister links to download and deposit at Maple and Sun Vegas Casinos. I live in Australia, and to this day have never seen a casino offer AUS$ as a deposit option - I mostly play on British casinos so I usually play in GBP.

However, after depositing in GBP, they send me this email:
"During a routine security procedure we noted that you have opened a casino account in a currency that is not applicable to your jurisdiction. This is a contravention of International Foreign Exchange law and cannot be endorsed by Vegas Partner Lounge."

They don't offer a currency that is applicable to my jurisdiction. US$ is no more applicable to Australia than GBP is - when I emailed them about this a few days ago, they didn't reply.

Frankly, how tiring is it when casino support doesn't reply to your emails? I live in Australia, so its not like I can just ring them up on the phone.

Make sure you read ALL the T&C's before you sign up.

Most casino's I've seen only allow GBP accounts for UK residents (some allow Europe), and Euro accounts for Europeans. But they usually allow $US accounts for anyone on the planet!

I would recommend you only open $US accounts.
 
I know KasinoKing - to be perfectly honest, I didn't read *all* the T&C for these ones as I downloaded from CasinoMeister links so had full confidence.

They offered me the option of opening Flash accounts and depositing in US$. Guess I'll just do that then.

I apologise for the inconvenience, but this is unfortunately standard procedure for all our casinos.

GBP accounts are only available to players from Britain, as is Euro accounts to European players, and Canadian Dollar account to our players from Canada.

The rest of the world are required to open US$ accounts. Usually in a case like this, you will be requested to open a US$ account, or one will be created for you, and your balance will be converted to US$ and transferred to the new account.

Please PM me and let me know if this was done for you.

Good thing there's a casino rep here because you wouldn't have gotten a reply from their support desk. From my experience, they never return emails.

The above statement is contradicted by what is quoted below by VPL that the rest of the world are required to open U.S. dollar accounts. I would think that opening U.S. dollar account from Australia, or any non U.S. "jurisdiction" would also fall under this "contravention of International Foreign Exchange law" whatever that means. This does not make much sense.

I had this happen to me when I opened GBP accounts from Canada and after seriously considering taking my business elsewhere, and informing VPL of this I was allowed to keep my GBP accounts. No other Microgaming casino group had a problem with me playing in GBP except VPL. I must add that the only way they will let you play in GBP is if you do not claim bonuses, which I do not. If you are a bonus player then you will have to change your account to a different currency. I have to also say that VPL is a great group, my favorite and that this was the only problem I had with them.

I'd have thought inventing laws to justify business decisions is closer to breaking the law than anything the player did :rolleyes: At the least it's rogue behaviour.

I've no problem with the rule, but they should just admit the truth that they prefer non-British users to play in a less valuable currency to reduce their exposure to bonus hunting. Australians are still British though, aren't they? :p

I would like to know that, too. Why are they damaging their own reputation by making up fake laws? I can understand that they don't want to give bigger bonuses in pounds to to players from other countries, but there should not be any problem with if the player does not claim bonuses, in fact, allowing the player to choose the currency of his choice should be part of high quality customer service. If they are really serious about enforcing this rule, then they should change the sign-up process so that players are only able to choose approved currencies. Another possibility is to change the size of the bonuses in different currencies, for example casino365 used to have a monthly bonus of $40 or 25, which are worth roughly the same, so there is little to gain by registering an account in one currency over the other.
 
Update on this situation:

VPL have been in contact with me via PM which is really fantastic - they have offered me the chance to open up accounts in US$, which I have no problem with at all. It was never my intention to break any international currency laws - and while Australia is not *quite* British - we are certainly closer to Great Britain than the US in heritage and culture I think. I play mostly in pounds if there is the option to do so at online casinos and poker rooms, but it's no problem at all to play in US$.

Even if the international currency law is not as *real* or widely followed as it should be if it is, I fully support casinos in their right to limit non-GB players from using GBP.

I have been very impressed in VPL, and will certainly gamble at their fine casinos in the future.

(If only Casino Blasters were half as honourable....)
