The topic of cheating by Live Casino providers comes up every now and again.

Videos appear online of strange things happening on Roulette tables and sometimes Blackjack games.

I've seen lots of debate on whether this is cheating and up to this point nothing has been found or proven.

But this has got me thinking about the other side of the debate. I'd like to explore how you think Online Casinos and Live Casino protect themselves from playing risk at the tables.

I've just returned from Las Vegas (Lucky Me) and I've been watching how the Pit bosses, dealers and behind the scenes security manage risk at their tables.

I'm assuming that both Land Based and Online Casinos face similar challenges from advantage players and on table risk.

Let me give you some examples.

In Land Based Casinos
  • Casino's do not have to accept your bet. Either a dealer or Pit Boss can politely decline to take a bet that's placed.
  • The Dealer/Pit Boss and security (eye in the sky), will be looking out for card counters. If they spot one, someone will join the table to confirm and if found will probably ask the player to follow them before politely asking them to leave the casino.
How would an online casino / Live Casino handle these issues? Do you think they'd do the same? If yes, how would they do it? If No, why wouldn't they?

I'd appreciate any comments, insights or just plain thoughts you have on this.

Cheers
Neil.

I am the i-gaming representative for Better Value Casino. The first time I went to a casino was in 1999, 26 years ago at the time of typing this. I went to a massive casino in London. First night I went there, I took about £500 and won a packet of £1,000 as far as I remember, so I left with £!,500 cash approximately after a couple or 3 or 4 hours. It was a fantastic experience.

Regarding table risk, and risk of 3rd party providers cheating, first of all the total amount of money involved on some tables and all tables collectively is a high number. You really do need to have a lot of money readily available, and a lot of money available generally up to instantly to pay players and pay all costs. If a 3rd party provider were to cheat, they will usually have some kind of underlying problem which they are trying to fix, thus rig or cheat to try to resolve their problem, be it greed, the wrong drugs or other.

I don't think table risk is generally much of a problem otherwise, apart from the fact that it exists, bets can be declined to be accepted in online casinos too as well as bricks-and-mortars casinos. Obviously if a bet is accepted, it is a struck deal, and the casino is 100% obliged to pay out the money. If a fair terms & conditions is breached, then sure the payment might be delayed or even not made, but apart from that, the bet is paid to the player as per the risk that the player is making, the casino also has a varying level of risk, and it is practically possible, although practically impossible for a well run professional casino, for the casino to run out of money if the amount to be paid out by obligation is large enough. But professionally run organisations will be able to set out in advance protective measures such as limits on how much can be won in a single day, such as used to be £250,000 a day at H and K Commissions, the first bookmaker where I placed a bet in East Anglia in England. (I put £100 on trap 4 greyhound race, and I won £500 CASH!) I've never been to Vegas, I've friends who've been, I played at real casinos at visitable premises in London, Warsaw, Monaco. Amazing experience in Warsaw, Poland, near the Millenium, I won more than 15,000 of their currency at the time, (Zloty), having started with less than 700 Zloty. On the final night of my trip to Warsaw, I lost over 9,000 Zloty as I got greedy and I was placing relatively enormous bets, maximum limits etc, on even money chances, and luck turned against me. It was a good experience, I am really relieved that I did not bet more after losing 9,000 Zloty. Hence I left the country in profit, up 5,000 Zloty (profit approx £1,000 to fly back to England with). I won't talk about Monaco now, but that experience was the best experience with money I have ever had in my life. Really happy with my gambling, but I remember that some people have died! Anyway, I hope that's helpful insight.
