Kentucky seeking to seize 141 gaming domains

Geezuz I am not even american and this makes my blood boil.
Funny part... Even if the domain names are seized, it is only a technical problem for the casinos, a problem with about the same difficulty level as changing servers.

I figure that most US players will not be effected in any major way.

I agree 100%, its the arrogance, gall and total disregard for freedom and rights that pisses me off.

Yung has been forthright about his contribution: "I make no apologies for helping get Steve Beshear elected," he told The Associated Press in an interview. "I've got a First Amendment right to spend my money any way I want to spend it."

I too have the right to spend my money any way I choose but apparently you and your ilk do not agree.

What hubris.

And for once, the idiots in question are not GOP. Phew! I am getting tired of becoming ashamed all of the time.

Hope I don't get in trouble for this but there is a very good read regarding this on the APCW website. Lots of information that back up what I said about horseracing and what is happening.

The horseracing industry as a whole is losing money. Not only is the betting on horses down but the actual sales of horses are on the down slide. If you read the Daily Racing Form everyday you will read news about the downturn of racing. That is why most all race tracks now want to have slot machines. Except in Texas of course. Our government would rather the money go to LA, OK, AR and NM than allow our state to be corrupted by gambling. So who benefits from the closure of online gaming in the US. Kentucky has been trying to get a slot bill passed for some time.

I am sure everyone is smart enough to see the writing on the wall. I had much rather be gambling online in my PJ's than driving 66 miles to Shreveport. So the B&M casinos lose money.

I, for one, am too old to appreciate some J**KA** in another state telling me what I can spend my money on.

From what I understad, the KY Court has issued orders to ICANN and other US registrars to have the 141 domain names seized.

Sad thing about this...

I see this seizing of domain names by Ky Governor as the first step towards the end of the www.

What is going to stop China, Saudi Arabia, Iran, North Korea, Malaysia or any two bit radical leader from following suit and seizing domain names of websites they declare are illegal... I'll tell you what is going to stop them... nothing at all.

If the US can seize domain names to protect its horse racing business, why can't China seize domain names of sites that break their law by advocating the freedom of Tibet?

Why can't Saudi Arabia, instead of just blocking websites that criticizes or offends them decide to seize those domain names now they see how 'easy' it can be.

And what really makes me angry is that this pin headed Governor has no clue what his bribery, political corruption and protectionism will cost the world in the long run... I hope his pee pee falls off.

I hope his pee pee falls off.[/QUOTE]

I agree. I would also add the pee pee's of all idiot politicians who are still against Americans freedom of choice.

Has anyone else had gotten an email from ANY CASINO OR POKER ROOM letting you know that they're making changes with their domain name and when it's going to happen, and that you're going to have to re-download the software?

Or have you figured it out on your own WHEN YOU GET CUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF A HAND?

I'm not going to name names, because I think this can be resolved peacefully, but it really pisses me off that a certain accredited group can't even send out a single email letting people know what's going on and give advance notice (even an hour's notice would be good...anything) of when they're going to switch everything.

You have no doubt by now heard of the most recent developments to
curtail online gaming in the USA. The Kentucky circuit courts ruling
to seize the .com domains of a host of iGaming operators and providers
has yet to come into force. We would like to take this opportunity to
assure you that all steps are being taken to minimize the impact of
this ruling should it come into effect.

We have made all the changes that will enable us to seamlessly direct
your traffic to alternates to the .com sites should we be affected in
the future. For the most part, the changes that we make will not
affect any partner that uses our adservers. For those of you that host
your own creative inventory, we will make the appropriate changes in
our Media library (you may have to update your links). We will advise
you when this change is affected. For now, however, our business
remains unaffected.

We remain committed to our partners and will keep you abreast of all
developments as they happen.

Possible change to .com URL's marketed by ReferBack

Due to the recent court case brought by the Commonwealth of Kentucky
against 141 online casino and poker branded URL's there is a possibility
that River Belle, JackpotCity.com and Lucky Nugget and King Neptune's
online casinos may lose their .com domains.

We at ReferBack would like to assure all affiliates that both the IGC and
Microgaming are doing their best to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.

However, if unsuccessful we at ReferBack will keep you informed of any and
all necessary changes that might affect you.

Kind regards

Update from David Brickman at the Jackpot Factory

Hi everyone.

David Brickman again...

A hearing was scheduled for today on this issue but the latest info is that its been delayed until tomorrow. No reason has been given and nor do we have any inclination as to what the ruling will be.

I can say that from what Ive heard from many contacts in the industry is that most of the domains listed in the case are going to be moving to new domains such as .UK or .CA etc. This is purely a defensive measure and not because they know anything about the potential decision. According to most experts this is a ground breaking case in Internet domain law which would set a very troublesome precedent.

All the best,

And the second ground breaking case in Internet online gaming law in the US as it would be naive to believe some other States would not follow KY's precedent as you state in the event KY passes as law..... I still view this as political posturing rather than about online gaming per se so who knows. It was Fletcher who tried to capture votes with the over zealous anti-gambling crusade pulling several different stunts based on Yung's support of Beashear. Yung may be out of the picture as Columbia-Sussex last I read was in trouble with the banks......That said, the old money still speaks loudly in KY and primarily from the horse industry including breeding and coal industry, fwiw!!..........Nashvegas, the city, is only 60 miles South of KY and it used to be the old money that spoke also in NV and for the most part, the State also but NV has attracted major noveau money and thus political change among many (Remember if Gore wins his own State, then there would have been a different whipping boy)......KY is politically generally the same as it was 25 years ago with maybe the exception of Louisville!!!.....just some random thoughts and some facts!!!

Not sure but didn't Frank's original bill still ultimately leave online gaming (regulation, etc.) on the State level???

*sigh* So no one reads the Casino Industry Discussion section.... first post there on this was on the 22nd I think...

LOL

It sucks... Let's just say that, if this is allowed without a huge ruckas, then what's to keep other countries from taking over domains Mr. Beshear (and his ilk) thinks is a-okay? Maybe the Muslim countries don't like their citizens being able to log on to USA christian websites... or someone in Greece doesn't think his people should be exposed to USA fast food ads and wants to take over Burger King and McDonalds domains... or whatever... Get my drift? Who died and made Beshear king of the internet??

/end of rant...

Update from David Brickman

David Brickman (yet again)

I managed to get hold of someone within the Governor's office who confirmed a few things. The government isn't looking for any sort of taxation regarding online casinos. They just want to drive the online casino industry out of Kentucky and the the residual damage doesn't concern them. The official stance as far as the Kentucky Governor's office is concerned the online casino industry is completely illegal. They are concerned about these foreign online casino operations "preying" on their citizens.

Regarding the protection of the horse racing gambling industry. It was fairly obvious that this is their intent. Kentucky based racetracks do take online bets. It wouldn't be a surprise if they started taking more than just horse racing bets in the near future. This whole case has nothing to do with the law, just greed...

Sooo, what are they going to do about the UK and EU citizens that are online and betting on the Kentucky Derby next year? Are they going to go after them too?

ie: They're not going to stop it altogether. :)

So someone over in Europe or elsewhere needs to seize the Kentucky Derby online betting domain! Heck, go whole hog and seize the Kentucky government domain for overstepping their boundaries! :D

An international Hatfield and McCoys all over again! Yeehaw!:D

the hearing is scheduled for this afternoon...

Kentucky wants to block access
By Stephenie Steitzer ssteitzer@courier-journal.com September 26, 2008

Buzz up! FRANKFORT, Ky. -- Kentucky has taken control of two online casinos as part of Gov. Steve Beshear's attempt to crack down on illegal Internet gambling.

Internet users in Kentucky and the rest of world now are unable to access the two casinos, highrollerslounge.com and luckypyramidcasino.com. The domain-name registration for the sites lists the Kentucky Justice Cabinet as the "registrant" or operator.

Last week Beshear filed suit....

This is F******* ridiculous. So much for America being the "Land of the Free"

Seriously, those of you which are US Citizens, do your duty in November and vote the Republicans out of office. Or do you want a book banning, white beard wearing deity who lives in the clouds believing, pro life even if you were a victim of rape, Vice President helping to run your country.

I thought the UK had got too PC and nanny stateish. This just takes the biscuit.

I second that. This election means more to us than in the past.

Some of the things I have read about Palin in particular, on my Politics Board, makes her seem and sound worse than Bush could ever be.

November 4th is about whether America wants a change or more of the same ala erosion of personal freedoms.

I still cannot comprehend how Kentucky got away with this. It is beyond belief.

The Governor of Kentucky that did this, Steve Beshear, is a Democrat. You can't blame the Republicans for this one.

Thats the point most Americans (and observers) fail to take note of...
Crooked American politicians come in all flavors, shapes and sizes... And our government is just full of them from top to bottom and on both sides of the isle. That is why we NEED a clean sweep, we need to remove all the crap and start over.

The politicians that scare me the most are the ones that claim that 'God' is telling them how to run the Country... Just what we don't need, a schizophrenic politician with his/her fingers on ALL the buttons.

BTW - I understand the domain name seizures is already a done deal, the domain names are now in the process of being confiscated per the court order.

The good news... The people of Kentucky will still be able to access their favorite online casino, today, tonight, tomorrow and for the foreseeable future.

All the moron Governor of Kentucky did was waste tax payers money in a futile effort that will not even slow access to the online casinos.

I'm just curious to what he was trying to prove by blocking domain names - Just that he could???

Well from what I see this is all about making the people that donated to Steve Beshear's political campaign happy.

Steve Beshear's friends include a very shady land based casino owner that 'donated' one million dollars for a pet project of Beshear's and then donated to the 'legal' limits of his campaign... This particular land based casino owner has been very vocal in the past about what he calls "unfair" competition from online casinos...

Steve Beshear's friends and political contributors also include the movers and shakers of the Horse Racing Gambling Business that want to put slot machines at Horse racing tracks in Kentucky... His friends feel that online casinos would compete directly with them for slots players... So they go to their bought and paid for pet governor and tell him to get rid of the competition...

I would love to see the faces in the KY governors office tomorrow morning, when they go check the world wide web and find that the online casinos did not just go away... But are still easily and quickly accessible to the good people of Kentucky and are now completely out of his reach.
