Jaffa cake scandal

cracking thread this thread did make me laugh so much , theres a list of things , best one i seen around two weeks ago , was baked beans local tescos , they had heinz beans on offer 2 quid for four , next door to these was branston beans 6 for two quid who ever thinks these ideas or puts them like that .................................

Pmsl Tez, good one :D

Another one which grieves me is once a month (for about a week) my favourites go on offer.

Namely the large pouches (wonder how long it will be before they start to 'shrink') of Maltesers, Galaxy Counters (Hell Yeah!) and Minstrels etc, quid a bag :) - They're usually over £2 a bag so I don't bother then as I munch the lot in 5-10 minutes.

It seems that there are some greedy fuckers around who insist on buying the complete shelf in one go and leaving empty cardboard boxes behind, just to rub it in.

I wonder if these are the same twats who were buying out all the Morrison's baby wipes a few years back at 18p a packet and selling em on the car boot for 50p!! (Hence the reason they quick price marked them)

Either way leave some for me next time

UPDATE::: Today I go my local tesco and buy a pack of jaffa's, Than go to B&M to buy the rip of version so I can actually show you guys, Unfortunately they did not have them there except a double pack which actually was 2x12, So could not buy and show, But just sorting my camera out and found the picture I took the other day,

Here is the actual packet of them, And below that is how they should be,

If you can afford those worktops, you shouldn't be getting so wound up by being short by 3 Jaffas. Look on the bright side, it's a much healthier option. Anger burns more calories, and you have taken in only 75% of what you intended to start with. The march back to B&M to rip them a new one over this will burn even more calories, but maybe you shouldn't have gone via Tescos and bought that regular 12 pack.

As an aside, be VERY careful with Tesco bacon, the 7 rasher smoked back packs in particular, as one poor sod got them home and found it had shrunk to 6 rashers.

Christmas 2015 will see the tins a further 11 chocs short according to latest reports.

Since we are on the subject of product shrinkage, I have seen a leaked internal memo from Microgaming that proposes that the current 5 reel slots will only have 4 reels from April 1st 2016 due to rising costs and a more regulated market leading to a reduction in the number of spins being played. They expect a one fifth reduction in ongoing maintenance costs by removing one of the reels. I have suggested they remove reel 2, as it never seems to perform as well as reels 1 and 3, and is often the cause of a dead spin when there should really have been a 3OK win. Such a configuration should mean only the more worthwhile 4OK and 5OK wins will occur, making the game better value for players as well as less costly to maintain for the casinos.

Soda companies are doing just the opposite - They're promoting over-indulgence when you're not buying in bulk.. For example, a 20oz soda here in the USA is roughly $1.90 after taxes, and a 32oz soda is around $2. 2L (64oz) bottles are around $1.79 at most places. Then again, they've recently started offering 1.5L bottles anywhere between $1 and $1.25 apiece.....lol...so many choices ;)

This has been the funniest thread for some time here at CM...... i can read the posts every day and still laugh for minutes...... :D :D :D

I'll be shopping groceries later and will keep my eyes peeled for some more packaging cheats :)

BTW, Jaffa Cakes are not available in Thailand, even Tesco stores don't have them....They do stock McVities products but not the Jaffa cakes  :(

Has to do with the product itself not having any value whatsoever...it is only water, sugar and a little flavor syrup. The larger the packaging the lower the filling and transport cost, hence lower selling price.

I work in can making and can tell you the story of a coke can:

- value of coke beverage in a 33cl can: 0.0003 USD
- cost for the can: 0.02 - 0.06 USD
- cost for the EOE end: 0.04 - 0.07 USD, up to 0.12 USD with colored tabs and special embossing

Hence, the packaging is much more worth than the drink itself.

Enlightening! So that's why they can sell fountain sodas for a fraction of the price of bottled drinks.

(and do think that restaurants used to actually charge for soda refills years ago...what a profit margin)

The 0.0003 USD is the cost until the drink is in the can, filled and sealed, packaged for delivery.

Anything above that is marketing, profit margin etc. It was really enlightening when i started some 20 years ago in this industry.

Mineral water beats that by a mile though. I spent a lot of time in the south of France, while being stationed in the French office, at the Perrier factory. The value of the water is actually only 0.00012 USD and the selling price of a can or 33cl bottle is about double or even triple the price of a coke can!!! That is profit galore!!!

Was not to pleased the other day when bought some jaffa cakes (McVitie's) I went it a new department store B&M that's just open in my town, Sell anythink from sweets, Bed, Beer,

I bought some Jaffa's and later that day I went to have some, When I opened the packet I was shocked, Instead of the usual 12 stacked up, There was bloddy 9, The cheeky fuckers had used the same size box and that but instead of stacking them all up they stacked only 3 up, of 3 rows, Thats a 25% loss, Or if some casino's was writing this it would be a 50% loss as bought 2 packets, I know its not really a 50% loss as bought 2 just thought I add that after seeing that some rouges do this and this is exactly what this was,
I add a screen shots of what I mean,

Finally found these Jaffa cakes here in Bangkok, and of course in a Tesco's supermarket. Only 9pcs as well and they ask 149THB = 4EUR = 3GBP  :(

Still bought some and because of the heat probably, they were all stuck together, was more like a JAFFA BIG CAKE ROLL :D :D

50p for 12 in Morrisons :lick:

What a difference!!!

They know that expats will buy them, especially when they take the kids to the supermarket, hence let's price them very high and see if we can get away with it. If nobody buys them then we'll lower the price and call it a "special offer"

50p is on offer though, think they just over a quid normally.
I prefer the Cadbury ones myself, usually under a quid for 24 in Poundstretcher & Home Bargains type of shops in UK

Are you sure there are 24's 12x2 ? I was ripped off at B&M with the 9 pack, same size box just packed in a diffrent way lol

Cheers mate.

Yeah, ripping expats off, no way can shipping some Jaffas from McVities UK to Thailand explain a 2GBP difference. :(

And then they are all melted together because somewhere in the delivery chain somebody messed up and did not keep them cool :eek2:

What I hate is the 'minis' versions of products. Like Ritz crackers etc. You buy a pack of say 6x6 individual packs and they are like £1.79. For £1.19 you get a whole box of loose ones with twice the weight! You're not telling me a bit of cellophane and packaging doubles the price of a product?? :eek2:

It is called "convenience packs" in the industry. :p It certainly gives them extra profit otherwise they wouldn't do it :D

It's all part of the New World Order in effect

Jaffagate was just the beginning

Went to buy some Quality Street for a relative, by default. I recall a few years ago these tins were heaving with chocolate goodness

Shocked to see how piffly they've become, quite shocked when we opened it up, there must have been about 30% less than I remember (but more expensive of course)

Should have have just bought them a Chomp for what it's worth!:mad:

It's a bit cheeky indeed, but not too uncommon for brands to make the product look and cost the same, yet either changing the amount of products in the package, or even change the amount of ingredients in a product. The latter is the worst i.m.o. but it both sucks when you don't expect it.. Of course i can imagine why after such alterations, most of the brands don't feel like including the message "now with 25% less!" or "now only 10% cacao-butter, but 100% more sugar!" etc., however i do feel that they should do just that.

I am not quite familiar with the laws of false advertising, and/or changing of amounts and ingredients within an edible product, but i am sure there are plenty loopholes for the brands, or this wouldn't happen. And it happens a lot. My favorite chocolates/toffees from England are Quality Street, and over the years they kept the package pretty much the same size, but have definitely decreased the amounts of candy in there.. bit of a bummer, but as long as they don't mess with the recipe i'll still buy them, that is, until i find only one little fella in the box :p

Anyway, sorry "for your loss" :D
