Investigation into UK Casino Operators - Gamstop, Exclusion and Verification

I think its going to be very hard to fight this sort of stuff until gamstop becomes mandatory for all UKGC licensed casinos, as there is still no date until it becomes mandatory and it might not ever become mandatory. Casinos will always have that shuffle room.

Thats why it was only Gamstop registered casinos chosen. Also the new UKGC verification rules should be black and white, they are very clear. Yet some still get it wrong. Think the UKGC are likely to come down hard on some of these.

I get what you meen, I just ment because right now gamstop is essentially a "volunteer" program it gives them more wiggle room. There is no law that state's they have to be part of gamstop. Until the UKGC make it law for every casino in the UK to be part of it they won't be able to punish those casinos who arnt following it 100%. Its one thing fining casinos for not having the normal self exclusions in place because those are law but gamstop is not. Its just a volunteer program essentially. Something I haven't come across yet is, because gamstop isn't mandatory for casino's does that meen a Casino who is part of gamstop can change their mind and remove themselves gamstop?

No. It will be part of them being granted a licence now. I am sure it's later this year that anyone with a UK licence has to be on it. The verification rule change is mandatory for all operators as of now. If your excluded or otherwise from anywhere then there is no excuse for the casino not to catch it.

Thanks for that, im glad about that. That would be very dangerous territories if casino's decided being part of gamstop was more trouble than it's worth and removed themselves from the participants list.

So a final update to this.

Happy to say that all but 4 operators have played ball, corrected any issues they had in terms of Gamstop/Verification and look to be adhering to LCCP Section 17.

The four standouts....

William Hill - Refuse to admit any fault with their third party verification software even when proven in black and white that it does not work. Refuse to admit that their process for SE does not work either. If the player emails complaining they block the player but the player can then setup another account. They do not properly apply self exclusions. Details of 6 accounts passed to the UKGC. Once or twice is bad enough but 6 times is incredible.

Bear Group/Slingo- Again, broken verification. They cannot verify a players date of birth properly. As long as a player is over 18 they allow them to gamble. Reported to the UKGC.

Unibet - Again, refusal to admit fault in verification. However have since taken steps to fix their processes. Have also been reported to the UKGC.

Winstar- Another broken 3rd party verification tool. Only when trying to withdraw, 5 days after account opening did they suddenly discover an exclusion. Refused withdrawal and return of deposit. Reported to UKGC again against section 17 LCCP.

All others, absolutely fine!

They refused both withdrawal AND returning the deposit?

Nice work, btw :xxx:

They did return the deposit. However, they still didn't follow the rules and are doing verification at a withdrawal stage which is crazy.

I hope this is done now. Some really good experiences here though and hope I made some change their tact! There are some genuinely good operators out there.
