Just a random rant...

But we have this in the UK, and I really hate when it decides to block my card after I try and deposit..

Explaining my transactions (especially gambling ones) to a judgemental woman on the end of the phone to get it rectified gets very old

Not sure what the issue is here - simply create a VBV password and enter your details when the form pops up. Thereafter you'll never get transactions blocked as the card issuer is happy with the 3 random characters from your long password you've entered. I use the VBV system. Some sites in the UK don't actually use it but the transactions still go through OK provided you have set it up previously.

I have the password etc, but with Nationwide who I use, about once a week it will trigger and just say VBV FAILED - CALL XXXXXXXX without asking for password.

It just blocks. I have told them about it but they say it is a security feature so cannot be changed.

It's the same password I use for online banking. Even when you're not banking online, you can always create the password anytime within the "verified" pop-up. As Dunover said, plenty of sites will only require to do it once, or never at all. There have been some threads about this,
any extra security is a plus, but I agree that sometimes it can get annoying.

I see. Then there's little you can do. Kind of defeats the object of setting it up, as they obviously don't trust the system! Or they are just suspicious of gaming transactions.

same issues in australia

i get around it using a web wallet like skrill. mastercard and visa can easy block payments in and of out online gaming services you can cash out instantly with skrill or eco card services its a few dollers here and there but it saves alot of hassles

I used to be prompt with enter code but one day it nether did, I rang the bank (Barclay's) and they got rid of the enter code so its automatic every time I get the verified by visa,

I can say I not had one trouble with it and done thousands of transactions,

I'm with Halifax, and all my transactions (deposits) go through this Verified by VISA system.
Occasionally the transaction will be denied for no apparent reason and then I have to wait for my bank to call me. It's most annoying when it happens on a Saturday night and I'm just about to settle down to a game. Night is ruined

Here I just approve the transaction on a popup that comes up on my mobile or with the VBV dongle. It does take a couple of seconds extra but I feel the extra security is well worth it.

Same bank and similar situation...

Countless problem free deposits at Guts, all successfully VBV then out of the blue, it blocks what must have been at least my 50th+ deposit and I get a message saying its sent a text to my phone, which I get, read and it asks to text 'YES' back

No probs I think, then arrghh no phone credit, 10pm Saturday night and only my 'deposit' funds in the bank - needless to say i went to bed early that night in a bit of a strop :p

A good illustration of my dislike of "Neteller hating" casinos that argue for the use of cards. I have faced this problem a number of times with cards, yet Neteller will go through smoothly unless the Neteller service itself has gone down.

It also varies widely from one bank to the next. Cahoot is problem free for me, it's one card that works as well as Neteller for online casinos, the only downside being the limitation on funding, nowhere near what Neteller will allow for a VIP. Barclaycard used to be even better, and as a credit card, both better and perhaps more dangerous than anything else. However, the recent trend has been for banks to back out of gambling transactions as they are "high risk". This may explain the smaller number of cards that work smoothly, and without high fees, and also the trigger happy security systems even when Verified by VISA is being employed.

Grrrrr

I started this earlier in the year, and here it is again.

Sit down, late at night, to have a little slots session.

Stick some money in Neteller.. DEPOSIT DECLINED.

Bank card blocked. Have to call the morons again tomorrow. No play for me.

This drives me nuts my bank HATE Neteller and I don't get why.

With Skrill you can do an instant bank transfer you have to go through a number of loops punching in your banks login details etc
but it works same as a Faster payment. Takes around 10 mins to complete. When i used neteller a few years back they had a similar system
but dont know now.

It's not the bank I think. It is VISA that is doing this. What I was told from the bank is that VISA thinks "neteller" as not safe place, so if I want to use my VISA debit card on neteller, the bank has to downgrade the security on the card to low, so the transaction can go through. The problem is the bank can not let the card stay with low security all the time, the security will go back to high after a few days or even after a few hours.

Anyway why do you have to wait until the morning? Most bank has a call centre 24/7. It's not the case over there?

Nothing is simple as 1 2 3 now days, I have Barclays and not had one bit of trouble, Thats uploading my funds to skrill & neteller, But I normally use my card to do straight deposit, It could easily be used 50 - 100 times a month, I have a santander and rarely use it, But I have done when lost my other card and was flagged instantly,

That's odd, Cahoot is now owned by Santander and it NEVER flags or blocks a casino deposit, nor one to Neteller. Unfortunately, this account is no longer available to new customers, and as a legacy account, there may come a time when it is merged fully with Santander.

UK facing casinos that have a "don't really want players using Neteller/Skrill" policy are going to start losing deposits because customers will be getting blocked by their bank, and it may be more trouble than it's worth trying to sort it out with a reluctant bank call centre. The other problem is that even when the bank does sort it out, it's only on a one-off basis, and EVERY deposit may end up having to be manually approved by the bank's call centre.

It seems that the simple solution of allowing customers to "whitelist" their favoured casino or eWallet is beyond them, so it would seem that this problem is only going to get worse for players as banks tighten security ever further.

The UK facing casinos at least will have to start liking Neteller, and even encourage regular players to switch from troublesome cards to Neteller.

Its tough for me, I try and avoid using my debit card on casinos, because it shows on bank statements then if you need a loan/mortgage, ain't gonna happen.

However, having spoken to my bank today, they have told me that Neteller will always flag on my card, because they have a very high amount of Neteller fraud on their current accounts.

I would use skrill but had a dispute with them a while back and they shut my account. Not ideal.

I can fund neteller via bank transfer, but it takes a day or more

So much for Neteller being secure then! This is a problem that Neteller needs to address, but the banks are driving players towards other solutions by blocking deposits direct to casinos.

Given that in many countries online gambling is legal and regulated, the banks should not be allowed to place a negative marker on customers who use their own spare leisure money from their bank accounts to play casinos. Failing this, players need options that don't show up on their credit files or bank statements, but don't put them at risk by using eWallets that operate under very light regulation (eMoney issuer, rather than bank).

A work around is to have a separate current account with a different bank, one chosen on the basis that it lets most card deposits through unhindered, or at least allows customers to configure their own security. I have Cahoot for this as my experience is that it doesn't interfere with card deposits to Neteller, nor to casinos, even when the sums are large (over £1000). Lloyds on the other hand, declines many deposits if they exceed £100, and you cannot "whitelist" processors via their call centre or account management.

Yes, here in Australia I also occasionally have deposits blocked by "Verified by Visa". It always tells me the password is incorrect. Then when I click on the link to reset the password it asks for my details, then tells me that the details I have submitted are incorrect (which they are not). I then have to contact my bank and they unblock it.

If I had a choice, I would definately have the program removed from my account/card. I also don't like the receiving phone calls to check if the $50 transactions to Gibralter were made by me.

I previously did this, but then I applied for a loan as I had to relocate, they saw that I was regularly transferring money to another account and asked for those statements too :p

Seems rather intrusive, as what they really need is your income and outgoings, not what it's spent on. Maybe the next step is total isolation of the gambling account, don't even transfer money to it but write a cheque and pay it in, or draw out cash and pay it in. Cashed cheques on your statement don't really give much away, just "Cheque 296 £200" or something similar. Rather than regular transfers, larger one-off transfers might look better.
