Horse Racing & Tips Thread

Racings poor today so going to do a small treble on Sean's 3 runners, all of which look like they have a good chance on paper.

2:05 Robin Of Sherwood
3:15 Misty Mai
3:50 Millbank Flyer

The only other one I like is El Hombre in the 2.25W. I think it has a decent chance of winning and a really good chance of being placed, however 6/1 is shorter than I would like so will wait and see if it drifts at all before deciding to have a bet. I would want 8/1 at least for it, was hoping for 10's lol.

Good luck today

Someone else mentioned El Hombre as well, odds bit too short though, not much enjoy for place and not that tempting winner that would invest big portion of my horse funds in that so might leave it alone, will see if drifts a bit :)

Three short prized winners as treble and doubles:
1.35 Taunton: Broken Quest
2.30 Limerick: Kilbee Warrior
3.35 Limerick: Noble Yeats

Good luck with those, more balls than me backing a short priced fav in what is, essentially, an apprentice race!
Hope they win for you :)

Happy New Year to everyone, lets start 2021 with a bang.

I had a few lined up for Cheltenham, but thats been abandoned now :(

Exeter has an inspection later this morning, hopefully that stays on.

1.40E Pure Bliss, CD winner last time out on heavy, where he won easily, this is a slightly better race though. Confidence is tempered slightly by the money for Misty Bloom and Lily The Pink, but on form can't really see why either should beat the selection. 5/2

2.50E Ask Me Early another of Sean's rides today, again, won easily last time out on heavy ground over a similar trip. Don't see anything in the race that should trouble him. However the drigt on him is concerning as Fry's horses tend to be ok in th emarket if they are expected to win. I'll probably wait a couple of hours before backing this and see what the market does. 5/2

1.40 Fairview, a random South African selection for today, Sovereign Secret, around 9/4. She is 3.5kg better with Gimme Gimme Gimme and has a plum draw. It is her 3rd run since the first lockdown and should be fitter here and will appreciate the step up to a mile.

Good luck today everyone

Well yesterday was a bix mixed, with the one I picked earlier winning, but the 2 I added at the last minute not.

Sean has 2 rides today, and I've been waiting for them both ro run again so I could back them, so doing a decent double on them. 12.40S Whitehotchillifili, 2/1 pretty much everywhere, and 2.25S Metier 5/4.

The 3.00 is an interesting race, with Nicky Henderson sending 2 runners for the race, his only 2 runners of the day. Valtor who was 14/1 last night but now as low as 13/2, but seemingly starting to drift back out again at some bookies, and Gold Present who opened as low as 14/1, drifted out to 25's, but now is as low as 16's at a couple of bookies (although 22's generally). Nico de Boinville is there for his only ride of the day on Gold Present and is in decent form, think it might be a decent EW bet with 5 places available at some bookies. Might do a small RFC on the pair too.

2.40A I know Illegal Model is well thought of at home, travels a long way for this race, has Brian Hughes back on board today, who had 3 from 4 winners yesterday, and has been backed from 7/2 to 5/2. Think this might win today.

Good luck today

That 3.00 race has 5 places paid by Paddy Power at the minute. It does look like Valtor is the pick of Henderson's two though the last run concerns me too much.
I landed on Strong Pursuit at 8/1 each way 5 places. Only carries 10-8 on the heavy ground and the fact they've persisted with the horse (11 now) and only 6 runs in the last 4 years tell me Hobbs thinks he retains ability. With 5 places I'll happily have a punt each way.

One race that caught my eye also was the 2.48 at cork.
Only 9 runners and PP pay 4 places.
*note if two more pull out its 3 places.

I landed on Napoleon Blue at 7/2. Ok so not quite each way value but I've stuck him in a double with strong Pursuit.
If they both place its a decent profit and if both win its party time lol.

I just think each way here you have 40%of the field getting place money and there is a 100/1 rag thrown in there too, this horse has only been out the first four when he fell so a real shot to nothing type for me.

Colin I like your double if you can get Stormy Ireland to flop it looks a winner. Gl with it.

Sidenote.

Comp will be posted by yours truly on Jan 5/6.
It will involve a little longer prediction type guessing but with a nice prize. So all the regular posters here make sure to look out for it!

1.10 Lingfield Lucky Louie 8/1 E/W beaten 2 and a half length last time over course and distance, drops 2lbs and is down in a weaker race worth an e/w dabble.

Not one for a big bet, but will be having a few coppers on Ruacana in the 3.35 at Sandown. 40/1 in places, has decent form over CD on heavy ground, and is running from bottom weight. Not a tip as such, more I think it's value as I think 16's would be closer to it's proper price. In the same race if the ground wasn't heavy, I would have liked Zamperini at 66/1, he's a decent horse and Gary Moore likes to target Sandown, but the lack of any decent form on heavy put me off, no doubt it will win now haha.

Over at South Africa, 3.25K Captain Of Stealth should win this, the current 9/4 on offer is bigger than the exchanges at the moment and think it will be closer to 6/4 at the off.

Happy new year to you too:) I've not been taken by the racing recently simply because the horses I have fancied where too short for my preferred EW betting I've just a small EW bet in Ireland today.

Good luck with yours :)

Metier was very impressive there, and 7/4 was massive, I thought it should have been odds on so was surprised to see it odds against this morning, double ended up paying 7.25/1.
Nice bet, and what impressed me most with Metier was as they were running to the second last for a few strides it looked like he was going to have to work a bit to get past the leader, but he went back on the bridle right away and absolutely hosed up.

Yeah it was an easy winner.

Was more interested in watching football today than horses but got nice double up on Spurs and Rangers also have them in a fourfold.

Only had 2 horse bets so far. Took Ibleo while watching game as PP were giving free bet if horse 2nd 3rd or 4th but it won.

Then was going to take Metier but as it was also quite short doubled it with Johnston horse in race before at Lingfied. 16/5 was some price on Bravado so nice double.

Been good day so far.

Now did 2 small singles just too watch Stansfield running now and Potters Legend as don't really fancy them.

Pretty poor racing again today, but I like Wiley Post in the 7.15K to get at least a place. Currently 20/1 most places.

Have my pennies on favorite in this one, but will happily take place for this, also 2€ for win in exchange 28/1 (was exactly 2€ available with price) :)

Poor race day indeed, so had to be creative with picking, one besides of that mentioned Kempton race, other one 5.45 Kempton: Tampere. 9/.4 at BF. Named after city in Finland so not most educated pick for winner but have strong feeling it to win :)

2.28FL Have backed Francky Du Berlais every time it's ran this season, the 22/1 win at the start has more than covered the losses since, as he's came 2nd 3 times in a row now. I really like Sean's riding style of soft/heavy ground, he's an extremely strong jockey, and the horse shouldn't be bothered by heavy either. It's a good race but chances are one of the front two in the market will fail to live to expectations, so think Francky Du Berlais has an excellent chance of coming first or second here. Currently 9/2.

Similar comments to Misty Mai in the 3.28. Won it's first race at 5/1, got badly hampered at the first last time out and unseated Sean, loves heavy ground, has won much better races than this, a triple C&D winner, currently 8/1 4 places.

Going to do 2 small EW singles and a bigger EW double. At current prices a £10 EW double would pay £550 if they both win, or £55 if one or both are placed.

Good luck today

I'm a bit disappointed about 2 of the meetings being abandoned today. This afternoons racing doesn't provide enough ew betting so I've just done this. Good luck with your bets :)

3.10C Welsh National. I think Sean could have picked from 4 or 5 of these to ride, and think the fact he went with Springfield Fox to be significant. Love long distance, loves soft/heavy ground, although has been running in lower class, has won well when he's won previously, unseated the rider at Cheltenham, but that was after being quite badly hampered, so can be forgiven, and was far from being out of the race at the time. 8/1 6 places with PP and BF seems good to me, especially given I don't like the favourite, and certainly not at half the price of Sean's. Others I like are Christmas In April (10/1) and Yala Enki (14/1). Vieux Lion Rouge seems overpriced at 20/1, although would certainly be my 4th choice in the race.

1.25C Yggdrasil (14/1) is the one I like here as an EW bet. He was green in his first race, and while no match for the first two, did well to get third. A bit more experienced this time, he hopefully will make the first 3, currently 14/1 pretty much everywhere.

1.30W Martha Brae. Although the form figures don't look particularly inspiring she's had three handicap hurdle starts this season. She's started well in these races, led the last twice before stopping very quickly. She's had a wind operation maybe that will do the trick. Also drops in distance which ought to suit. She still could be anything in terms of true handicap ability in relation to her actual handicap mark. Taking a big chance that the wind op will have helped, but 25/1 4 places looks like decent value.
Caoilin Quinn takes 10lb off, and has only ridden in 3 races, winning two.

3.30K Polish, struggling to find a 4th one for the lucky 15, but this is sitting there and unless i notice something later, will put this one in. 18/1 6 places looks a fairly decent price to me, and might drift with it being quite a decent race and the top two in the market having money for them over the past 24 hours. Don't think it will win, but I wouldn't be laying 18/1 for it not to be in the first third of the field. There are worse bets in the race :)

Short price, but think McFabulous will take all the beating in the 2.20K.

Good luck with your bets today

Just a quick heads up.

Anyone having a bet in the 1.10at Kempton.
PP doing money back 2/3/4 places in an 8 runner race.
Max stake refundable is €/£10 but great value if you are having a bet.

I intend to run the comp soon. The abandonment of meetings has made it hard to do!

ffs I'm fuming with myself. Obviously I had picked out Polish in the 3.30, but someone on my forum posted the below, went to change it with me not being that keen on mine, but saw it was 100/1 (drifted out from 20's) so changed my mind and left the selection as it was, Boreham Bill just won at 66/1

Well that wasn't a successful day for me with the bookies :( I see Laura Pearce is continuing her amazing success rate and she has a few more chances to add to her win rate this afternoon.
I hope that Exeter goes ahead tomorrow

Not sure Exeter will go ahead, but if it does then same comments as last time apply to Francky Du Berlais in the 2.40. Currently 7/1 4 places with PP and BF. Be amazed if this doesn't place.

As it only ran today, Ask Me Early is quite possibly going to be a non runner, but if he turns up, he's Harry Fry's only runner at the meeting and don't think he will be going just for a day out. Ran impressively and won well today so must have a good chance of getting a place at least as today's race wasn't too hard on him. 11/2 4 places BF & PP again.

Only other one I like is Silver Nemo in the 12.50S, but the 14/1 PP were offering has long gone, now as low as 4/1.

Not sure how to bet yet, but if Exeter goes ahead and both the horses run, i'll probably put an EW lucky 15 on with Bond Angel in the 1.50S, yards in good form, has won here 7 times, and the jockeys ok too. Literally anything in the race could win this though, currently 20/1

Good luck to anyone having a bet tomorrow.

Unlucky with your last one there Col.
I ended up with a double on Bond and Francky, thought Bond was unlucky not to hold on to win but still happy with the EW double returning a profit. Of the other two, one was a non runner and I didn't think the 4/1 on the other was value when it had been available at more than 3 times the price earlier.

Nice to see we both made a profit :) I thought my last was going to win but he just ran out of juice :(

same as my first one :( thought he was going to hold on then got caught on the line :(
Never mind the difference was only a little bit
2 winners would have paid £1800
winner and place paid £140 haha
It looks like there will be some decent EW betting tomorrow :)

What a result today for Crawley Town!

I've not had a bet today as I was punting the overs/unders in fa cup and NFL yesterday I'm taking the day off.

I will say I found PP have an interesting priced special for Hollie Doyle to have 2 or more winners at wolves at 3/1. She has 5 rides.

5/2 fav and a good favs chance at that imo.
7/2 2F will win if it beats the jolly imo.
9/2 3rd in betting and priced about right.
8/1 outsider of 4. Keyword is 4 so every chance it can pop up and win.
11/4 2F and will run the fav close.

I've definitely seen worse specials. If you run the maths model it would be about correct at 3/1. Just very rare you get the correct price. It would normally be 9/4 or 5/2.

3.10D Runasimi River. hasn't been great his last two runs, and maybe a little high in the weights, but clearly has ability, and is back in a class 4 again today on slightly better ground than the last twice. Millie has rode this horse previously and won. Don't think it will beat the favourite, but good chance of being placed at 20/1 4 places. Easter Gold seems to be getting backed in, although doesn't seem loads of money for it on betfair, but has halved in price at a lot of bookies. Bryony is in good form though so think this has a good chance of being placed too. I do think the favourite will win this though. Might do a tricast on the three.

3.20H Dubai Guest. Bit of a stab in the dark here, but first handicap, and Olly Murphy seems to know what he's doing when it comes to placing horses in handicap hurdles. He regularly has bigger priced runners that haven't shown much, get a place. 20/1 4 places at the moment. Apple Rock has halved in price in this race.

2.05D On Springs. Another longshot, and is banking on the front few in the market not running well, but that is a possibility as nothing in the race really inspires confidence. Truckers Pass should really win this easily, however, he has ran 4 times, 4 times a short priced favourite, and 4 times been beaten into second. Both jockey and trainer are out of form too. L'Incorrigible would be my idea of the winner, and I certainly wouldn't be taking odds on about Truckers. Solwara One looked decent in bumpers, but that form doesn't always translate well to hurdles, so, again, wouldn't be piling on this. On Springs has some ok form, and his first run over hurdles resulted in a burst blood vessel, so that can be ignored. Has Daryl Jacob back on board and the trainer is in decent form. 33/1 most places.

1.25 Fairview, was struggling to find a 4th horse for my Lucky 15, so had a look at Fairview, and think Para Handy might run better than his 25/1 (PP) odds would suggest. Has dropped 8 pounds and is now back on the turf where he has all his wins. This is his favourite distance and he has now dropped in class. Not one to be putting the mortgage on, but think he is value at 25/1.

Good luck if you are having a bet today.

I have taken 2 for Hollie and 2 for Laura Pearson who has exploded on the scene from nowhere recently. I can see Hollie winning at least twice today because she has some good rides.
