...what are everyone's thoughts on this?
About a month ago I kept getting calls from an unrecognised number and assumed it was PPI, accident claims vultures and so on, so I never answered. Eventually I did, just to tell them to fuck off, but it was a well-known UK gambling website instead, with whom I have an account. The guy on the line started asking questions as to why I hadn't been on the site for a while, did I know about their latest slots and so on. Finally he gave me a code for some free spins (on fucking Starburst no less), £10 cash match and whatever else. All the time I spoke to him I just wanted to hang up but didn't have the heart.
This was on a Wednesday morning when I was sat at my desk at work, and I'd been getting calls the week before at the same time. Why the fuck would I want to be called up on a weekday morning, in front of my work colleagues, from a gambling website, to be asked why I haven't been on there much recently? Did they think I was unemployed and sat in my vest and pants watching Homes under the fucking Hammer? I just found it totally invasive. I logged into my account and tried to delete my phone number from my details, but it wouldn't let me have nothing in the box, so I just put 00000 000 000 instead. There's no way I would ever agree to have a gambling site ring me up out of the blue like that, so it must be a standard part of the T&C's that you have to 'unsubscribe' from. I just felt really uncomfortable talking to them at work, pretty fucking embarrassed actually.
The calls were from Grosvenor Casino and Mecca (I eventually answered a Mecca call), so it must be a policy of the Rank organisation.
Anyone else get annoyed by this practice?
