...what are everyone's thoughts on this?

About a month ago I kept getting calls from an unrecognised number and assumed it was PPI, accident claims vultures and so on, so I never answered. Eventually I did, just to tell them to fuck off, but it was a well-known UK gambling website instead, with whom I have an account. The guy on the line started asking questions as to why I hadn't been on the site for a while, did I know about their latest slots and so on. Finally he gave me a code for some free spins (on fucking Starburst no less), £10 cash match and whatever else. All the time I spoke to him I just wanted to hang up but didn't have the heart.

This was on a Wednesday morning when I was sat at my desk at work, and I'd been getting calls the week before at the same time. Why the fuck would I want to be called up on a weekday morning, in front of my work colleagues, from a gambling website, to be asked why I haven't been on there much recently? Did they think I was unemployed and sat in my vest and pants watching Homes under the fucking Hammer? I just found it totally invasive. I logged into my account and tried to delete my phone number from my details, but it wouldn't let me have nothing in the box, so I just put 00000 000 000 instead. There's no way I would ever agree to have a gambling site ring me up out of the blue like that, so it must be a standard part of the T&C's that you have to 'unsubscribe' from. I just felt really uncomfortable talking to them at work, pretty fucking embarrassed actually.

The calls were from Grosvenor Casino and Mecca (I eventually answered a Mecca call), so it must be a policy of the Rank organisation.

Anyone else get annoyed by this practice?

Out of the blue Caddell have started ringing me a lot, I haven't played there for ages, 020-London number. Just do what I did, get a call blocker app there's loads of free ones and add the number from your calls log. In future your phone won't ring it'll go straight to answerphone if the bastards call again and they hang up. I also have a SMS blocker with £, bonus, 100%, offer, deposit, and a few other spam casino words added, and it's worked perfectly not had a casino spam message disturb me in 3 months. Every now and again I go into it and just see the tens of scum messages that have collected and do a mass delete - they never get opened or read, and I never get disturbed by the wankers. :D

I detest being cold called by any casino! worse I had an automated message the other day from Red Bet! some gimp speaking crap. Was really annoying ... blocked the number and they can be sure not to see any of my money now. Worst form of spam if you ask me. Report them for cold calling. This is bad practice. I dont want any casino contacting me other than an email I give them without first gaining my permission.

This is a misuse of customer information. They require a correct phone number for KYC, but they should be careful about misusing this information, especially when it is used for aggressive marketing, such as repeatedly calling or calling the player at a time and place that might cause them embarrassment.

Operators should have a specific opt in for calls, rather than relying on a default permission to call any time any where based on a COMPULSORY field in registration.

i was recently offered that job at a similar casino. Apart from being told im only allowed to speak when first being spoken to, i only refused it after reading one of the conditions in place to help prevent accidently disclosing personal employee info such as i.d by voice recognition was that i mustn't unzip the mouth part.

Lapsed customers are a segment that need to be reactivated, that is the Casino's thinking, and they don't care if they are being invasive, disturbing you at work or waking you up.....it's your fault, because had you been depositng and losing as expected they wouldn't have to go through the trouble to call you to try and reactivate you. That's the thinking from their side...

But I agree with you, it is invasive and absurd to think someone isn't playing at a Casino simply because they forgot it existed, players can be lapsed for many reasons, and some of them can't and won't be reactivated. Maybe down the line when you opt out from receiving promotions, they'll opt out of calling you as well.
