Fellow Canadians and Skrill

Er, is it just me, or is Skrill hammering us with fees? Or am I an idjit with conversion?

My $900 WD arrived, receipt says $900 USD...but total is $867.33...loss of $33
Surely that can't be conversion. Today's XE is 1.00 USD = 0.992948 CAD ...we're almost par.
And it isn't a casino fee as the receipt from Skrill says $900 USD. ie WDed $900 USD, they sent $900 USD.
My casino acct is USD.

I'm not a math whiz, but if a penny (approx.) equals a buck per hundred, it would be a $9 loss on $900 and my Skrill is CAD; so it's sending USD which converts to CAD, wouldn't I lose 9 bucks?
Transfers INTO my Skrill are supposed to be free, but I think international is 2%...so let's call that $18 in fees
18 + 9 = $27, still not the $33 loss.

LOL, I wish my acct at Skrill were USD and in hindsight it would have been had I known way back when I started I'd be playing at most places in USD and you cant change your Skrill currency once chosen.

My head hurts now lol

So if I closed my CAD and got USD, they'd get me 2 ways? The casino would send USD, converts to CAD, back to USD?
I'd have thought I'd make $ if my Skrill were USD; ie casinos sends USD to my USD SKrill, then when sending to my bank I'd GET money (like if an american sent me 50, id get 51, gaining the buck but if i send them 50 Id send 51, losing a buck)

I stand to be corrected, I am in CDN, my account used to be in US and I had it changed quite some time ago, so yes we do both get killed, most of my play has been in CDN at a couple MG casino's so it hasnt affected me too much but I remember my last Sloto w/d I got it pretty good.

I sent MB an email basically calling them thieves, we were 2 cents above US and they gave me .94.

You just need to get up and become Higher VIP then you can have different Account currencies  A Silly thing in my mind. You have to be doing crazy transfers constant to get that.
But in one way how do they calculate all this. In one way to become VIP. You could just every month transfer big amount between you and a friend or couple of friends? Something I have though about. I have not really checked how much I loose on my GBP account when receiving Euros or Dollars. I guess I better start doing this. Thanks for heads up

Its the same as your bank would "buy" foreign currency if you deposit it into you CAD account.

Here is the rates from RBC as an example:

So 900 x 0.9639 = 867.51

It must depend on the customer, I have been with RBC for years and just converted 4k today for Vegas and I got wacked just over 2 cents, spot was 1.008 and I got about .98c.

hey guys,

i want to add my rbc visa debit card and my regular rbc visa card to upload funds but there is a question that asks if i am going to use the funds for online gaming or non gaming. which box do i check? if i check the non gaming box and they find that i am depositing to a casino, what happens?

or what happens if i check the online gaming box? will they outright shut down my skrill account?

i thought i better ask someone before going any further. i dont know what is right. any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have always checked used for gaming and never had a problem with any of the my transactions to or from Skrill. I've talked with both my banks (BMO and Scotia) and they said was fine and they had no problem with me using my cc's for Skrill or gaming online and that included the wires coming from skrill. Not sure if anyone else has had a problem but I've found it a very trouble free process on all fronts.

RBC debit card did not work to fund moneybookers but i did click "online gaming" box , i called RBC and they said no gambling is allowed. :(

I remember years ago i funded my MB with amex or some other CC and said "non gaming" and i could not deposit that money into casino, ended up sending it to my bank. :o

Yep, RBC is a no go with online gaming, I know my CIBC Aerogold works but they treat it like a cash avance.

Skrill and a prepaid Visa from Moneymart for me. Funds can be paid back to the card, although RTG won't. I can upload funds to Skrill from the card if I want; check that you will be using it for gambling, they promote the card for such.

I'm BMO and they now offer a prepaid Mastercard, but it's $3 for a gambling deposit (or a bill payment for that matter) Cash advance fees for your own money:eek: Never a problem receiving a wire, they know what it's from.

Can you w/d money from Skrill back to MM prepaid visa? If so i will consider getting it, otherwise $15/month in fees seems to me like a bit too much money. But i get to pay even more to receive a w/d from Skrill to my bank. :(

Thats a good question, I either have my w/d's sent to my bank account or I get a cheque, I just went on the MB site and cannot see where I can have my registered cc's as an option for w/d.

thank you folks,

awesome info. i guess there is no reason to register any of my rbc cards. now that is a no go.......has anyone ever tranferred from rbc bank account to skrill? it states it can take up to 5 days.

hmmm, my emoticons aren't working.

I have, always has taken 2 days, same with withdraws (they usually take 4) on withdrawls RBC charges $15 to accept them, thats why I started getting cheques, they come drawn on a Canadian TD account and had 3 all within 5 days.

I meant I can ask for a casino withdrawal to be paid back to my MM card. I can withdraw the cash without fee at MM, or pay a buck to withdraw it at an ATM, or just spend it anywhere that takes Visa (including my utilities, cable and mobile bills) It's more than $15 to have Skrill wire money to my bank account counting their fees and my bank fees. You can have up to $5000 paid back in a single transaction, and a balance of 10K on the card. When ClubGold paid me, they transferred over 6K back to my Visa, but they broke it into 3 x $2,000 and another smaller one, so it was not an issue.

I particularly like smaller withdrawals paid back to Visa if I can use a little extra cash.... you kind of hate to pay over $17 to withdraw $200, but this way I avoid that fee.

I don't want the option of gambling directly from my bank account immediately. I can fund the Visa via online banking, but it takes a couple of days,so no impulse spending or chasing losses.

And the nice thing about the MM card is it registers as a normal card, they have online banking that you can track all transactions, balance etc... I am okay with paying the $7.50 once a month fee for this card, if you pay the monthly fee there is no charge to load the card. The only drawback is if you dont fund it online you have to in to the MM branch and stand in line with most of the scrubs that frequent MM. :)

Best to avoid moneymart on cheque days. My last visit to Moneymart was by cab, and I got lucky with a driver that turned off the meter while I was in since he was sending money home for Christmas via Western Union. I ended up having to wait for him, lol.
