I am certain there are many members here that have cancer, family member or friend with cancer, or they have died from cancer. I don't know how many are aware of compensation for some areas and types of cancer, that can help you through the burden of this disease.

My father in law passed away from pancreatic cancer and was eligible for the Downwinders, which helped his widowed spouse in her time of need.

There are criteria for being eligible, but one of the people we spoke with did say that prostate cancer would be added to the list of cancers that are accepted. This new addage should be passed in February of 2011. You can get the application now and all required info in early to see if you can be compensated.

There are many areas that are included in some form of Downwinders, so it doesn't hurt to find out this information.

But it is worth checking out.

I want to bump this thread as it is very important for anyone living in an area that has gotten cancer that is related to nuclear or toxic testing in several states and counties.

Downwinders means that one has lived downwind of some type of fallout at a particular period of time, 1950's & 1960's and has been later diagnosed with specific types of cancer as per their protocol.

If you or a family member has specific types of cancer, or if they passed away from a type of cancer that is listed, you can be compensated, not a meager little sum, but $50,000, paid to you in full, after the lawyer takes their %, to spend or save how ever you see fit. From my best recollection, my mother in laws lawyer received $2,500 for his fee, which was taken when the compensation arrived, not prepaid.

When we did the Downwinders for my mother in law after her husband passed away from pancreatic cancer, she needed to provide, birth certificate, proof of living in the area or county deemed toxic and a few other things. The lawyer does all the paper work, you only have to provide required documents per the lawyers instructions.


The process can take about 4 months to conclude, but it is well worth the time involved.

With the high cost of medical and living expenses, $50,000.00 can help a great deal.
