No phun intended! (Ok maybe a little

)
Sometimes my Wlan USB receiver gets very hot, so hot you'd almost burn your finger touching it. Is that normal? I noticed that whenever this happens, internet and network traffic will slow down to a point where i can't even browse confortably let alone download stuff or play casino games. I seriously put it in the freezer for like 15 minutes and when i plug it back in, everything works fine again
1. Does anybody experience anything similar?
2. Is it safe to put it in the freezer?
3. While we're on the subject of dongles, watch this
Great post and thanks for the video, I did laugh at the modern take on an old sketch, I'd try and look up the model of the USB receiver on the manufacturer’s website and see if a firmware update is available to correct possible over utilisation of the circuit board leading to overheating issues.
However; under EU law a product is expected to reasonably perform a function that is fit for the purpose, so for example if the unit you bought that was out of warranty and is now failing then you could possibly claim it had an inherit fault, the device would have been designed to be passively cooled as there are no fans on the unit? If for example it was a graphics card it could be argued that an environmental issue like dust build up could have caused a failure. With a CE mark on the device it would be expected to cope with the temperature ranges that are ambient in your location give or take.
An example of where a warranty would be invalid would be a CE marked refrigerator used in Brazil where the unit would not be expected to last because the coolant exchanger would be smaller and therefore not fit for the purpose, you should have sourced a unit locally.
Disclaimers like do not use for prolonged periods in temperatures above or below XX are fine but one could argue that the machine attached to it would suffer far more before these ranges were exceeded and thus shutdown before the USB device.
If there were disclaimers about the device not being compatible with certain pc or laptops then fine but then again the CE mark would be invalid and further be a case to argue foul play.
Unless the device shows signs of damage caused by misuse i.e. heavy scratch marks or damage to the bayonet then you have a good case for a replacement or refund from the place you purchased it from, not the manufacturer, the retailer that entered into a contract i.e. I pay you for this and you give me that and when it fails we need to resolve the contract.
If you don’t ask, you don’t get…
P.S. Stop putting your dongle in the freezer the temperature jump would......
P.P.S You were joking about the freezer thing right? Would totally kill any chance of a refund lol
