Some important news announced this morning if you run a casino affiliate (or indeed ANY personal/business) site from the UK on a .eu domain

--

The European Commission has confirmed that post-Brexit, individuals and organisations established in the United Kingdom will no longer be eligible to register or renew .eu domain names.

Unless a withdrawal agreement is reached, British registrants, who hold the fourth largest number of .EU domain registrations, will lose their ability to register or renew .EU domain names.

Like all domain extensions, you can renew up to 10 years ahead. So if you have a .eu domain make sure you renew now for as long as possible to avoid losing your site :)

As a joint British/Maltese resident, I'll be happy to help any CM webmasters if a deal isn't reached before Brexit.

Wonder whether the reverse will apply.... that only UK residents are able to register .co.uk and .uk domains?

Well, you'd think that if you can prove you have business in the EU or a trademark registered in the Eu, then you should be exempt. This is how other jurisdictions deal with this. Canada, US, etc.

But yeah, good time to extend - or look into your trademark rights if you have one.

Final decision was made last week...

The European Commission has decided that it won’t allow anyone without an EU address to own a .eu domain after Brexit.

EURid has set out a timeline. If you live in the UK, your domain will be cancelled on one of two dates...

  • 30 March 2019 if the UK exits the EU with no deal
  • 1 January 2021 if the UK exits the EU with a deal
