Corona virus - Covid 19 discussion

My last informative post, maybe you understand the reason for my point regarding hospitalization and collapse of the healthcare system being one of the major issues during a pandemic. These are the numbers for the UK.

- Left arrow: total hospital beds/1000 people = 2.54 or per 100,000 = 254 beds
- Right arrow: total number of ICU beds / 100,000 people = 6.6
- The far right column: number of respirators per 100,000 people
- Current number of Covid cases / 100,000 people = 431

You do the math. Even with just 5% needing hospitalization of the total number of reported cases, any further increase in cases/100,000 people will start putting a real strain on your healthcare system as you can't use all hospital beds or ICU units for Covid cases only. E.g. for the UK numbers you would have used up your ICU beds/respirators the soon the number of hospitalizations/100,000 people exceed appr. 100 (on average about 8% of hospitalizations need ICU/respirator assistance)

View attachment 144016

The death rate has reduced significantly in the last 8 months as doctors are understanding the disease better and have developed more refined treatments. However, the overall hospitalization rate per age group has not budged much. The virus is not weaker than 8 months ago.

See that was an informed post with no eye rolls and no trying to make someone feel stupid to get your point across. Comes across so much better.

And believe it or not many are aware of what the virus can do.

The problem we have is the culture in Europe. And no virus will change that. Simple fact is that however many rules they have in UK they do not have the power to enforce them.

I am fully aware of how bad the virus can be. But the Lockdown etc. is causing more damage than the actual virus. It is a well known fact the flu had over 50,000 excess deaths in UK a few years ago.

Whether right or wrong the UK is not China. They could not enforce a Lockdown here the way the Chinese can. Too many here just do not care and no way they will change . And the way people are now the Government is Basically powerless to enforce the Lockdown if so many refuse to adhere.

Plus fact it has been a shambles from the start.

And i do not expect you to believe anything i wrote.

But that is the whole point. All it takes is a reply like well i have done my research and i think you are wrong but that is your choice. Comes across so much better than giving loads of eyerolls and saying how many times have you been told you are wrong and haven't got a clue and making people out to be stupid for their views.

Maybe you do not realise lately the way you are answering people.

For instance i actually agree virus is bad. But i do not believe in locking country down for years. Need to balance deaths now to damage in the future. Harsh maybe but that is my opinion. And you should agree people are entitled to their opinions.

Yes maybe some people research things and believe Crackpot theories. But that is their choice. Is it any worse than people believing in a God. Fact is there is and never has been proof that a god or gods exist.

I mean i have disagreed with Mack on Religion and his theories. But i never posted ina style to make him look stupid to others and gave all the eyerolls either.

Maybe food for thought. Anyway said my piece and reasons behind it. Got enough personal shit to worry about at moment.

All the best Harry and stay well.

Sooo..

Iced coffee? I’m a massive fan.

Even in winter I’ve been known to reach for the ice cube tray.

Also buy the espresso iced cans and latte’s...

And caramel induced ice coffee is from the lord himself, as is vanilla...

Coffee is meant to be served hot , strong and with just a touch of milk.

Don't know how i would survive without having at least 8 to 10 cups of strong coffee a day.

And Bear i smoke as well. So what are you saying. My breath is revolting. No worries you aren't my type so you won't have to go near it.

I smoke also, coffee and smokes are cool, always have been and always will be, that said when my little girl says ‘dad your killing yourself and you smell’ that does hurt.

Tried to stop and did on champix tablets back a few years.

but went offshore and the rig wouldn’t allow me to take them for health and safety reasons so started smoking again...

Also the slugs returned.... most unpleasant scenes this evening out my back, it’s like a invasion..

I’ve salted the area too..

Found one in my room when I went to sort myself some clean boxer shorts for the morning, how the hell the slimy little tits get in is beyond me...

Just looked this coffee up and found this, pretty sad, man is so inhumane to fellow animals & getting worse.

I think the "original" is just picked from where the animals live.
But since the coffee blew up, and there was money to be made, and people are shitty...well you do the math.
Sad indeed!

Not watched as in a happy place at the minute and that would depress me massively.

What’s the context?

Poop coffee.

Those lil cuties eat coffee beans, partially digest them and then they get picked up and made into expensive coffee.
They are coffee bean experts, so they only eat the best ones.

Quite a difference between farmed and "natural" version.

Although kopi luwak is a form of processing rather than a variety of coffee, it has been called one of the most expensive coffees in the world, with retail prices reaching US$100 per kilogram for farmed and US$1,300 per kilogram for wild-collected beans.

I'm smoking a cigg right now and brewed up a cup of joe. I quit smoking before I can do it again but f' it, I'm going out with some enjoyment.
How did you quit?

Champix tablets work great, but sadly my life of work can’t travel with them and take them at work.

I’ve cut down loads, from 20 daily to making those last 3 days sometimes.

Bought a pack earlier and will last me till Saturday, tried patches, the inhalers etc.. all shit

Only thing that worked was the medication, but it’s not a option due to my work.

Fair play quitting, it’s not easy at all.

That’s sick, utterly disgusting...

Why isn’t this banned and the buying of said produce?. Ffs what’s wrong with people sometimes...

as my mother told me, you dont quit smoking...you merely pause for a time

if you can put it down and out, keep off it :)

I bought it.
I dont see anything wrong with the original thats picked in the wild.
But of course without that one, the farms would never have been built i guess.

Saw it marketed as worlds most expensive coffee on a site, and they sold small packs that was enough for 4 small cups of coffee.
Figured it would be a fun present to my parents since they love coffee, but i have always insisted that it tastes like shit.

I quit twice in my life, once for 3 years and once for 6 years. Just cold turkey. I just saw myself as a non-smoker. Its expensive so I'll use that as my excuse. My SUV is almost 10 years old now and no one is allowed to smoke in it, not even me.

People frown on smoking these days anyway. In the 1980's I could smoke right at my work bench at my job, now my friend has to smoke 25 feet away from her apartment building.

What brand? Love the camels, lucky strike form the abroad brands, too expensive here tho.

Lamberts are my personal choice here.
we've not the same brands :)

Wasn’t judging, Just wasn’t sure what it was all about.

I’d of probably bought it myself if I had known it existed lol

Can’t watch that mate, before I’ve even seen it.
Animal cruelty I just can’t do at all.

I clicked off the PETA site as quick as possible to watch it on youtube, too many sad tales on there, nothing gets my blood more boiling than cruelty, but also wasn't meaning to infer anything regarding kroffe's purchase, I'd heard of the coffee vaguely before and would've assumed it was an innocuous product -if a little bit challenging to drink...

Champix can be dodgy, causes depression for a start in some people.

Have you tried vaping? I was on 40 a day at one point, quit overnight once I got a decent vape with the right amount of nicotine/liquid. Still have the odd cigarette, but do mean odd one, like one a week/fortnight, and the good thing with vaping is I don't get the nicotine craving afterwards. Been stopped about 6 years now I think.

Champix is now fully covered in NL, no deductibles - but I didn't know it could cause depression in some people (what percentage?)
I genuinely have no idea, but when I was taking them probably 10-15 years ago I read up on them first, and my GP told me to stop taking them immediately and get an urgent appointment with him if I felt my mood changing for the worse

One article below

Yeah mate, my chest was terrible after attempting vaping.

It was the side affects that stopped me using them at work, the possible depression and suicidal thoughts.

Not me obviously, but work wouldn’t allow them, reason being is if I jumped off the platform with champix allowed they could be liable.

They really worked too, I had no side affects at all.

I read the article and it surprises me that the Dutch government has decided to support this medication to help people quit smoking with the possible risk of depression and even suicide.
I almost quit Smoking taking them.

Seriously I had no side affects at all, I felt a little sick but that was all.

My mental health was fine jac, I’m aware of possible side affects, but they almost made me quit smoking fully.

I just wasn’t allowed to fly with them and take them on a oil rig incase i did have suicidal thoughts.

Nothing since has even came close to helping me quit smoking, that said as my daughter gets older she’s telling me more and more to quit, maybe should man up and just do it for her.

I never should have started again. My co-workers would drink beers on the loading dock after work and were pissed I wasn't hanging with them. Well someone had a pack of ciggs and after a few beers in etc...
It’s not easy mate, offshore where I was had a massive social smoking culture.

FYI - aint judging
I'm a 2 pack a day guy here

I would be broke buying two packs a day. In Australia for a packet of twenties its $28 and 40's up to $60 :eek2:

The government wants people to stop smoking but instead they making people broke, they put the price up every year. Its more about the taxes I think, not about people's health :(

Really hard. There is actually more to that story. A couple days later I went to play the lotto and there was pack of ciggs where you fill out the cards so I took one. Then just after that me and my buddy were drinking in Boston and came across a phone booth and there was a pack of ciggs on it so I grabbed one of those. That got me hooked again.

I might add, that's how I met the ex-wife. She worked in a pharmacy and the sign in the window said cigarettes 2$USD so I went in.

Its the same here, they keep raising the price every few months.

I remember when I was in Hungry last year it only cost me $6 to $10 for a packet of 20's its cheaper in Europe.

Cigarettes in US vary from state to state. $11.75 where I am but in neighboring New Hampshire around 1/2 that price as there is no sales tax in that state. NY has got to be I'd say at least $14 or $15 by now.

.packs here of 25s go around 15 bucks
but we drive to the res and get cartons (200) for 15 bucks

American news channel CNN reports on the situation at Blackburn's main hospital.

A third of their ICU patients have died in the last week of Covid-19. A nurse describes how when a patient dies, they change the mattress/blanket and immediately fill the bed with another critically ill Covid-19 patient.

A consultant describes how senior nurses are reduced to praying that the deaths stop, and how he has never seen anything like the current situation in his entire career.

Things getting bad in Nottingham,a friend of a friend died yesterday after being in a coma and
a woman who used to care for my wife has a daughter whose classmate who tested postive,
She phoned today to say she was now positive along with her daughter, husband ,brother and mother.
Bad thing is that i had contact with her on tuesday so I am watching out for symptoms.
Time folks took this serously, i have no patience with those dismissing covid as no more dangerous than flu
and saying the restrictions are over the top, wait till it touches your lives,it will soon change you mind
My tablet is full of spiders as well, hope they dont spread it :)

I know I sound like a broken record, but as tragic as any loss of life is, we need to remember that every day 1600 die in this country. Whilst any covid deaths are awful for the families involved, just with any death, 300 covid deaths really isnt "bad". Bad would be 3000 a day, a national emergency and possible lockdown if it were 10000+ a day. (But we wouldnt need to be told to lockdown as no one would go out when a deadly killer virus was out there the public arnt stupid contrary to what the government seem to think)

But putting in job and business killing lockdowns ruining millions of lives, storing up poverty which will kill 1000s and 1000s more than covid ever will, is not the way to go right now. Plus as a country we just cant afford it either we owe over £2,000,000,000,000.

Government debt doesn't work how you think it might, the Tories didn't help matters with all their talk of needing to 'balance the books' to justify austerity, and talking about government finances in completely wrong-headed terms of an individual racking up massive credit card debts.

Take a look at this very informative explanation (it taught me a few things I didn't know).

Are you actually being serious? There shouldn't be a lockdown until there are 10000 Covid related deaths PER DAY? There would be rioting in the streets if it got to half that.

People already in hospital for other things are being tested for covid, if they are using pcr tests, which amplify the virus so somebody with old fragment of virus or a tiny amount would test positive, and there is also a false positve ratio with these tests on top of that - as far as I undestand.

Have all of these 360 deaths [I think it was the other day] had a clinical diagnosis based on a high virus count and all the symptoms of severe covid? [genuine question not statement]

As an example if I've got terminal cancer or had a heart attack and they run a [PCR?] test for covid while I'm in hospital, and then I pass away, do we know for certain this is not being recorded as a covid death?

He added: "We just have to get our point across. Aaron at the time of his death was Covid negative, we were told he had heart failure, that they couldn't resuscitate him."
The Department of Health includes anyone who had died within 28 days of receiving a positive test for Covid-19 as a coronavirus-related death.

Earlier this year, Aaron was diagnosed with Cushing's Syndrome, a condition that causes the body to produce too much of the hormone cortisol.
He was due to undergo surgery in Belfast's Royal Victoria Hospital and had been sent for a routine coronavirus test around a month ago, which was positive.
He showed no symptoms and later tested negative, his father said.

They have gone some way to trying to fix that though haven't they, in changing it to within 28 days, and it knocked about 10% of so of the deaths off.
It's hard for them to do in my view. If you have cancer and die of it early because your op was cancelled due to an outbreak of covid in the hospital, is it cancer that killed you, or covid, as if it wasn't here, you would have had the op and survived?
If you have a heart condition, catch Covid, go on a ventilator, then have a heart attack and die, was it the pre-existing heart disease that killed you, as you probably wouldn't have had the heart attack if you didn't have the pre-existing condition, or Covid, as you wouldn't have been on a ventilator that brought on the heart attack if you didn't have Covid?

I think it has to come down to the patients viral load, with covid creating severe reactions and symptoms, it is the primary cause of death.

Asymptomatic covid is 80% of all cases afaik, but a death [ in hospital ]due to other illnesses is counted as a covid death because a pcr test within 28 days was positive?
