First off mack the language isn't aimed at you or anyone as people, I'm not calling anyone names and I'm not telling anyone to 'fuck off' or suchlike. I never do that, and you will never see me do that in a post. I am referring to the wider attitude of 'let me go about my life and others who want to shield can do so' as if that is (a) Achievable in the first place (hint, it isn't) and (b) Doesn't also condemn millions of people to basically live a 'non-life' in perpetuity in the process (hint, it does).
@Harry_BKK listed a few of the massive issues with this approach a few pages back, and as ever his points were brushed aside or ignored.
That said, if my language is leaning into the profane a bit it's because I'm really bloody well fed up of trying to 'debate' with conspiracy theories, non-science, tinfoil hattery and general nonsense that isn't couched in anything even remotely resembling a fact or evidence based approach.
It reminds me of the whole Brexit debacle (and associated thread), except with Brexit objective reality has now made it so blindingly, irrefutably clear that the entire thing is a total shitshow predicated on falsehoods and lies that it's entered the realms of the utterly indefensible, and anyone still attempting to do so would be, in essence, a flat-earther.
As for Japan (and other countries) who've done well through Covid, all the information as to how they've coped better than elsewhere in the world is out there to be seen, and by extension, the reasons that we can't just replicate what they did here in the UK, or indeed we can't just replicate what Sweden did (for reasons that have already been explained, with evidence and citations, in this very thread).
That's not to say we can't learn from other countries, but with the state of infections in the UK at the moment, we're well past the tipping point in that regard. (And the same goes for many other European countries, as well as the USA where hospitals in many states are now ringing the alarm bells.)
