Bad news for Sweden too. Their idea of herd immunity won't work if only 10% gets an immunity for the virus. They needed like 60-70% of the people getting an immunity.
 
Doesnt look too good for the uk either,we dont have any idea of exposure rates having only just approved the antibody test. Bear in mind that originally we seemed to be going down the herd immunity route until the deaths started to rise and they did a quick u turn.Not good that possibly 95% of us have not been exposed,
are potential victims and our death rate is pretty crap.
Its going to be a long job, we badly need a breakthrough with the vaccine

Heartbreaking to say the least.

However, we have no clue whatsoever what kind of long-term damage this virus is doing not only to infected kids but also adults who survive or even those who show no symptoms. It will take years if not decades before that transpires.

Given the enormous difficulty in developing anti-viral vaccines for coronaviruses, I would put my bets rather on containment/treatment drugs similar to HIV or the like.

The next question is what kind of level of protection these rushed vaccines will have. 30% or 50% would be already an extraordinary achievement, 70% sensational and anything higher I would venture to say unattainable in such a short period. One can dream though. :)

Agree. Doubt there will be a fully working vaccine here. Long term, herd immunity may be the only answer.

Or make progress with the treatment. Some German scientists found that they could predict how the illness will progress by analyzing the urine. It would allow much earlier to start with treatment and thus alleviate the illness before people even get to the ICU.

I think something like this would have a much quicker and better success at helping to contain the virus.

I always analyze my urine.
The dihydrogen monoxide levels were a bit low this morning, so i replenished them.

For clarity i will add that there is some research out there saying that dihydrogen monoxide can be dangerous. So if you plan on using it, do so with caution.

Just seen this, something I suggested about 5 weeks ago, mouthwash could help protect against covid 19

Makes sense if alcohol rub kills it on your hands, gargling alcohol mouthwash will help clean your throat area if any virus is sitting there, predictably the WHO poo poo the idea, obviously it's not a 100% cure or protection but surely must help as we lift the lockdown and people come into contact with the virus, just like a facemask will help. so after you've been out of the home and returned or during lunchtime at work, use a mouth rinse.

Can't hurt even if it just helps your teeth?

Moreover, I was always of the assumption that mouthwashes always had fluoride in them but there's a number, especially the minty ones, that don't.

Useless fact but read the back of them ;-)

Failing that - go old school with baking soda

I use Listerine and it does contain Fluoride.
I think that there should be a lot more pushing of the health benifits of diet,exercise and building your immune system that we are getting.

Some of the Listerines do, some don't- i was using one of them that didn't have it...

I try and take the following: all the Vitamins, Lutein (for my eyes as i'm beyond short sighted), Cod Liver Oil and ram as many flaxseeds down me as possible.

Must admit i was never that enamoured with all the benefits of healthy eating but, and I blame sitting beside an organic guru, have now gone the opposite way in the last 10 years.

I have Vit C Vit B Zinc, Vit D,Cod Liver oil,multi vits and a glass of tonic water each day plus I have Collagen Vit C powder as a back up. Besides that I try to keep to a reasonably healthy diet and exercise regular

Yeah, im guessing the people out burning 5g towers wont be in any rush to take a vaccine even if we manage to make one.
Will be alot of dead people caused by misinformation and ignorance.

weirdly, I've read in numerous places that funeral directors are really busy, but making hardly anything, as they tend to make most the profit from the extras, as as theres no wake, no need for 3 cars etc, the profit margins have disappeared. In the UK anyway.

and far fewer caskets I'd imagine, plaques, etc
we cremated dad, so we also arent able to bury his ashes, place a marker, hold a service etc
as you say, there's simply nothing to 'upsell'

I've read that they are trying to "sell" wakes and other ceremonies like bury/spreading ashes at a later date when more people can gather again.

Over here right now 30 people are allowed at a funeral service but they can't gather afterwards so they're trying to adapt. I'd have a hard time having to go through the emotions again tho.

Exactly, and most the base fees they charge are what they are charged, crem fees etc. They make the money from upselling as you say. I saw one funeral director saying his work was almost 400% higher than the same 2 weeks period 12 months previously, his profit was 80% lower - not per funeral, overall. So 4 times the work, for 20% of the profits.

to be clear, this isnt a sympathy post or poor me..it's an observation

so, the pandemic has barely affected us here, household wise, we still work, we're pretty much homebodies, life trucks on as usual in most regards

mom asked me today, she has to touch base with the govt regarding dad's death date..i had to go search

a month


we were utterly gobsmacked; felt like a week, 2 max

point: calendar, days, dates have become irrrelevant in many ways; we've 0 ooncept of time passage :eek2:
 
The US nearing 11 million tests according to worldometer is not that bad considering the CDC cross contaminated the first test resulting in a long delay.

If they tested 1 million kits a day as some have said is required that's an average of 20k tests a day per state, if the state tested 24 hours a day that would be 833 tests per hour.

I'm not sure how long a test takes to process and how many labs each state has.
 
Too early to ease restrictions in AU, I really don't know.

Another nursing home this time in QLD is in lockdown due to a nurse who tested positive to Covid-19. :eek2:

Sydney nursing home have lost a lot of residents as the same thing happened.

Our cases were going down and now its creeping up again.

Our restrictions are eased so cafes and restaurants are being open but only to have 10 people at a time. Schools are back also.
