Corona virus - Covid 19 discussion

My neighbor works in a testing lab. She was telling me yesterday on a rare day off that all she is processing is COVID19 kits. 20 to a bag around 40 bags a day. Three co-workers tested positive as well and are now quarantined. People are sending tons of food in and the admin is also providing some but she has about 15 minutes to grab some dinner.

Ya, mom's a little overworked at the nursing home.
Before it was a dinner hr for residents in the nursing home now it's room service as theyre isolated which takes forever as the seniors all finish up at different paces as opposed to just clearing up the hall, same as snacks, etc

We live opposite a care home with 64 (dont mean this unkindly) pretty far gone residents.
Looking at some of the carers going in and out I am sure its only a matter of time before they get infections.

Just an update on trials taking place as I dont think it's been made public yet:

We are watching New York very carefully over the next week as they are now using hydroxychloroquine on thousands of seriously ill patients which is being tracked.

Lets hope it shows promising results.

Another human trial is taking place where people are given placebo vitamin c or hydroxychloroquine over a 1-2 month time frame.

We were told this will be made public this weekend but I havent seen any reports anywhere and we have various news playing through out the day.

National COVID-19 Convalescent Plasma Project is also taking place. You can read about it here

Your poor mum, I fully understand as we are in an exact situation at where I work. The majority of residents have room service and there is much to prep and clean up.

The elderly can be very fussy about what they want on their trays so it all has to be perfect :)

I finished my shift Sunday night and I was a wreck, haven't been so tired physically and mentally for a long time.

Few days rest and back again, I love my job though so not complaining :)

When someone is admitted into ICU that is obviously not a good sign.

It usually means they are in hypoxemic respiratory failure. Which means you dont have the proper oxygen levels in your blood. If he is in Hypercapnic respiratory failure that will mean he has too much carbon dioxide in his blood.

He will be given oxygen and if he doesnt improve he will be sedated and put on ventilation.

Lets all hope for the best for him right now because it's not a good sign him being put there.

lol, that was her major complaint too - insuring everything possible could be on a tray; sugar, salt, pepper, cream, e tc
and waiting at each door as she has to not only explain the options every time but requests and re-explaining why it isnt in the dining room
a huge time suck

on top of that, because of fear of cross-containtion, each is in a single service size

Ahhhh, but they can smell you, do dont take a bath that often, do you?
Its all part of my social-distancing plan.

I used to burn all my clothes the moment i came in from a walk to make sure no virus would follow me.
But that became expensive real quick.
I have found that going out naked helps with the social distancing, and there is no need to burn any clothes when returning home.
I have the bathtub filled with hand-sanitizer, so i just take a quick dip in there upon returning home.

Just to lighten the mood. That was lockdown lunch. A fray bentos pie and some veg.
For tea homemade burgers, m and s onion rings and chips, bit of salad.
pics to follow.
Also bought some ‘Nando’s’ sauce... I think Nando’s is massively overrated, and the sauce was the same.
most disappointed.

@irish-ranger I am in the same boat as well, Have had a toothache for months off and on and did not go and now all dentists are closed except emergencies, I found one dentist right by me that is emergencies but have not contacted him yet as I think it's going to be hard to get anyone to do anything at the moment.
Well I lucky enough got an emergency appointment this morning and 30 mins and £48 later the problem is no longer the only treatment they are allowed to do is remove teeth/prescribe meds no drilling ETC.

Should you still have toothache mate I’ve got prescription painkillers if you need them.
meant to pm earlier but forgot.

No , Trumph is, !!!!!

The problem with Boris is how quickly he went down. That is a very bad sign.

Right now his antibodies are losing to the virus. The oxygen and breathing machines will buy his body time to hopefully create the antibodies needed to fight it off.

The good thing, he is pretty young still and he is a leader of a country which will get him the best there is out there. There are alot of trial drugs working out there right now. Aside from the medications, they are seeing promise in taking antibodies from survivors and putting them in the sick.

So at least he has various options and it isnt just ...well ...lets just hope the machines buy him enough time.

@Kroffe - Putting the “distance” in social distancing since 2019.

With all due respect and firstly thanks for your service.
but you are not a virologist nor doctor and to merely speculate isn’t helping.
And he’s the PM..
pretty sure he’s a team that monitor his health hourly. Clearly a man in his position will get the finest health care available and rightly so as he’s leading my country, so the need for a ventilator should it arise won’t be a concern.
you state this is a very bad sign coming from a non medical professional is also poor form and scaremongering.
again massive respect to you for the job you do, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves please.
He’s the leader of the most successful and respected nation the world has ever seen.
Any news about a virus and hospital is world news, your diagnosis however is moot.

Respectfully, I disagree. This is a place for discussion about coronavirus-related topics and what could be more relevant than the PM of the UK. Personally, I like reading @lockinlove posts.

I don’t know exactly what @lockinlove does for a living but I do know myself from working with medical doctors daily in a virology research lab, you tend to pick up a thing or two. Not the same as an MD, but this is a discussion forum.

Agree wholeheartedly.
And as stated locks service I admire massively.
I was just voicing my opinion is all, no bad reflection on lock at all. infact what she’s doing puts my trade to shame.

genuinely not played it. I will do next pay day if I get a full pay check but I have to limit myself other I go wild on it.

look forward to your next dinner Photos and.hopefully boris can enjoy them too.
I was told off about those so keeping them to a minimum mate.
and avoid it, try razor shark or starburst for the big win.. my mate chip, sorry small fry told me.

With all due respect Ben, but we all have to keep it real. First, his behaviour was totally irresponsible. Shaking hands in the hospital, going about with no precautions. As a country leader, you simply do not do that, period!

Now, you can think of him to be strong as 3 or even 10 lions, it doesn't matter, sadly. You might have missed this post from me. This is the general development study from China. I wouldn't like to post the next days as to what you can expect.

I really wish him well but at this point, the mortality rate goes up to 50-80%. So, the longer he's in the ICU, the lower are his chances, sadly.

I read that the PM is conscious and not on a ventilator which is a positive. He is also relatively young so that is on his side. And as Playford said, he will be getting the best medical care. I believe he’ll pull through.

I am actually surprised that more world leaders and politicians have not become ill with COVID-19. They see so many people on a daily basis. Puts them at a higher risk.

Ok harry and as always as you know respect is mutual my friend
But I can link videos here of world leaders or so called doing exactly the same.
I really fail to see what relevance it has?
weeks ago nobody took the Chinese virus seriously, we in the uk assumed it wouldn’t happen as massively as it did.
Should I post a video of Arden a week back shaking hands at a summit for example?.,
That silly lady who’s now a laughing stock?..
possibly macron doing the same?
boris was merely trying to show strength and not to scare folks, and more power to him for this.
obviously if he knew what we all know now weeks ago he would of acted differently.
As I’ve said irresponsibility is all across the board (want me to mention the snp)
to state harry He was irresponsible is pretty poor mate.
Every single politician regardless of persuasion mate has abused the measures they put in place.
Hope your well as always.
Ben

He shook hands with COVID-19 patients, for crying out loud and even bragged about it. He has a pregnant partner at home, did he think of her and the baby at that moment? It is purely irresponsible and IMO sheer stupidity. That is akin putting your hand into a hungry lion's mouth and hoping he would not bite.

BTW, most of the others you mentioned are not PM.

I truly wish him well and hope he'll recover.
