Testing hasn't increased as much over the last few days as the cases have though, and any hospitalization / deaths wouldn't show in any figures yet. Plus it seems to be mainly younger people getting it, so the risk of hospital treatment or death is greatly reduced.

It doesn't help that it's proving almost impossible to book a test a lot of the time, seen loads of people round us saying they are being told to travel to Leeds or Edinburgh as they are the closest places with tests available. They also don't tell you about the walk in ones you can use, which is a bit shit.

But as they are testing far more people then they will find more cases. How can a pandemic be so deadly when you need to be tested to learn that you have it?

If we wouldn't test it would be around too, we just wouldn't know. People would die of pneumonia or scepsis due to an "unknown" cause.

What makes a pandemic a pandemic is alot of people dying of the same pathogen, in this case SARS-CoV2 which is caused by Covid-19. If there's a flu pandemic people are tested too. It's just that the flu is a "known" pathogen for which there are vaccines available on a yearly basis and usually that means it's fairly under control except when there's a mutation that's not covered in the vaccine. For now there's no specific drugs or therapy for SARS-CoV2, medical science has been improvising and hoping one or the other medicine works.

I wonder if it would make people happier if there was no testing, people would just get sick and die of unknown causes. But wouldn't that throw us back atleast a hundred years?

This "Pandemic" has been blown up out of all proportion. They claimed that 1% of the population or more would die of it. 0.1% have actually died of it but the original figures projected allowed lock down measures and all of the ruin that has followed. Sweden if I recall correctly .06% without lock down and without the impact on our lives and future.
Governments knew that the original figures estimates where wide of the mark yet they continued with the fear porn and ruin. They still are today with the compliance of all media outlets. They continue to manipulate figures and suppress facts that do not suit them.
Why should anyone trust them?

See I don't know about that. We had a lockdown that certainly prevented a lot of the spread, and who's to say it wouldn't have been a lot worse if we had carried on as normal? Sweden is a completely different type of situation, they aren't packed together like we are. They also have a much higher case rate than us per million, and only a slightly lower death rate

The imperial college report was based on absolutely nothing changing in behaviour, and was absolute worse case scenario. I thought that was pretty clear at the time, I certainly knew thats what it was saying.

As an update. The ACDC has now hidden their statistics and the few American publications that reported it have now removed any trace of these facts.
As an aside the pregnant women arrested for posting a protest gathering video after watching it a few times makes me wonder. The cops state that they will take away every device including mobiles from their home. How come the video appeared so quickly from his mobile?

I don't think everything was done right, but hindsight is great, and no doubt the governments and scientists all wish they had the knowledge they have now, back then.
The main thing I personally think is important, is excess deaths. They were what, 60k over the average in March/April ish? And that was after a very mild winter, where you would expect them to be below average. The lockdown might or might not have been the right thing to do in the form it was done, but I think it was needed to change people's attitudes. Look at the situation today, no one cares, and the figures are starting to rise again.
I've been in 2 shops today, one had 4 people in, not one wearing a mask. Another had about a dozen, there was one wearing one, a woman in her 60's.
Took my daughter to uni today. The rules they sent out included
ALL people entering the building MUST have masks on, everyone will have their temperature taken, no one from outside the individual living units are allowed to enter them, only residents.
I, nor my daughter or her friend, had our temps taken, the two of them didn't wear masks, I did the first 2 times I went in, the 3rd time I wasn't actually meant to be going in so didn't have one on, but ended up actually going upstairs into her unit, where I stood and spoke to the security guard for about 5 minutes. Not a thing was said about me being there, not having a mask on, or taking my temperature.
Pubs are full, no social distancing in a lot of them.
People in shops think because they have a mask on it's some sort of force field that stops the virus, bumping into each other etc.

These same people will have been out clapping for the NHS and will be the first to complain when stricter measures are brought in.

I'll put money on the pubs & possibly restaurants being closed at some point over the next month or so again, certainly if we see a big increase in cases tomorrow and the days to come.

I totally agree with you. It does not help matters when evidence,medically peer reviewed statistics,World renowned medical experts who are more than qualified to be heard are de-platformed and opinions are removed from everywhere as well as being "debunked" by "fact checkers".
There is also a lot of fake information too which really clouds the issue and allows those who are just happy to get their info from the washington post,new york times,cnn or the vast majority of the media to write off any alternative opinion to theirs as conspiracy or crackpot.

As I said, culture is very different in Sweden than in the UK. You aren't comparing like for like, and forgetting their infection rate is higher than ours and only slightly lower on deaths. If they got it right, how are their figures not so much better than ours?

Not the easiest social distancing task though tis the season for masks n all.

on my optics course we have 12 in the class when it’s theory based, all in groups sat (supposedly 2m apart) all share the pens, the paper etc..no masks

then when we go to the cafe for dinner all the above doesn’t matter... same on the train, in the car on the way home..

oh end this utter nonsense, over 300,000 brits in June we are told where to lose there jobs after furlough, what about the others that havnt been told yet they are getting laid off?

men and women with kids, homes and a life...

All for a virus that has so so little chance of ever effecting your life, never mind taking it away....
