Canadian Banks refusing gambling winnings

I use Ecopayz all the time. Withdraw by ATM -- but charges are pretty steep. Bank charges $5 and Ecopayz usually around $10-$15. I find that using it as a credit card works best. Charges are not too bad. Normally around $2-$3 on a $100 purchase. Other option is to withdraw to your bank acct but then you're running into currency fees and bank charges. POS is your best option but depends on the amount you have.
I guess the best way to do it is to deposit with Ecopayz and withdraw to credit Card. Thanks for the answer :D

I would be careful using ecopayz, My card has been used twice now for unauthorized transactions and both times it has been after using ecopayz.

In over 15 years of using Ecopayz as deposit/withdrawal method and the EP MasterCard for 1000's of ATM withdrawals/POS transactions in some 60 countries (maybe even more as i never counted them) i have not once had any unauthorized transactions. Not a single time and there were some strange countries where you usually think twice before using an ATM on the street, e.g. Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Chad, South Africa, Russia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Belarus, Ukraine, Vietnam, Burma, Indonesia, Zimbabwe to name a few.

I don't think that the danger of fraudulent use is any bigger than with your normal Credit/Debit Card. Especially since all transactions, be it ATM or POS, need the PIN number for authorization, so in my view even safer than a CC.

Since you are all regular players having a balance on Ecopayz (after receiving a withdrawal) is the most practical way to deposit at other casinos. No need to run to a store to get a Paysafecard/Prepaid Debit Card, no need to upload from bank account or similar. Just log-in to the casino and deposit. Withdrawals are processed quickly, at some places like VS/Bet-AT mostly in less than 1 hour. Can't get more convenient!!!

Must point out though that some of the CM accred ones are not taking EP, e.g.: Guts/Rizk/Betspin, Thrills/SL, Redbet, Energy, Trada, Mr. Green.

But a whole bunch is accepting it: VS, Bet-AT/Slotty, Everymatrix casinos (CasinoLuck/Next etc.).

That might be down to country restriction for you Harry. I use Ecopayz all the time at Guts.

I'd like to confirm that BMO is still accepting wires, it had been a while since I received one.

OK, i break down the most recent one i had for 250EUR (well, a little over, EP allows that somehow), so you can see how much it actually costs:

- Withdrawal: 10,000THB
- Thai Bank fee: 200THB
Total Withdrawal: 10,200THB

- Ecopayz Exchange rate: 1THB = 0.0267EUR
- Total in EUR: 273,09

- Actual Exchange Rate on 10th March: 1THB = 0.0262EUR
- Actual total in EUR: 267.24

- Ecopayz currency exchange loss/cost: 273.09 - 267.24 = 5.85 EUR
- Ecopayz Charge for withdrawal: 5.46EUR.
Total cost for withdrawal: 5.85EUR + 5.46EUR = 11.31EUR or 16CAD

Sorry, i got it wrong in my previous post by a few EURO as i forgot to add the 200THB the Thai bank is charging and i only saw now that they increased it from 120THB to 200THB, bastards

Now lets say you get a payout from a casino of 2,000CAD:

- 5 x Withdrawals with Ecopayz Card @ 350CAD; Cost: 5 x 16CAD = 80CAD ; 170CAD left in your EP account for your next gaming session :D
- 1 x Bank Wire: Bank Charge = 30CAD + any currency exchange fees

RESULT: Bank Wire is cheaper as you only have one transaction but it can't beat the convenience of just going to any ATM and withdrawing the cash the minute the casino payout has hit your Ecopayz account. The fastest i had was the last bigger withdrawal from VS, they paid in 9 minutes, another 2 minutes later i had the cash in my hands. :D

Personally, i am not that much bothered if it is somewhat more expensive or not. If i spend 40-50K / year in casinos looking at a few bucks more or less for withdrawals does look rather silly. ... more important is that i don't wait days or weeks to have the dosh in my hands. :D

Thanks for these Aaamazing pieces of information Harry!!

Hopefully this will Help others fellow players as well! :)

They told me there was a policy in place but it was discretionary. Basically if they feel like accepting it they can but also have the right to deny it. But they said the new policy they have adopted is that they will be instantly refused and there will no longer be any exceptions.

Tell the casino to send email transfers broken up, and tell Scotia to piss off. Their hours suck. lol.I hate that bank

From Guts was BMO, worked like a charm, 5days if I remember.
Bank charge $14.

Yeah, so far BMO and TD are the recommended choice...All others banks will mostly decline any association with gambling...due to there Brother American banks and these new laws of world Online control crap over internet.. ects zZzzz

If anyone wish to really start gambling online....My advice is, open a new Account at TD, they have such new amazing feature! (Pay Pass with your IPhone, Instant 5k cash deposit at the ATM without been frozen for new customers! and Visa is automatically tied with your bank Account for gambling!) and before you do it.....advise your Representative that it's for gambling and you'll deposit and withdraw from casino Online.....they'll set up it for you accordingly so they don't bother you with Questions after! ;)

When did TD start allowing casino transactions with Visa? I've been with them for years and it's always been blocked. They do process casino payouts though.

Hey Bedo!

About TD, humm.....It's been About 1 year ish i'll say....since the new change with Visa Automatically added with your Debit card......what you should do is simply inquire about the new Debit/Visa card which is tied to your Account directly! consequently, your debit card become your 2nd Visa Card...then, use it to purchase anything Online! :)

A little off topic, but while the Canadians are here, I just read about Gord Downie/ The Hip. Absolutely heartbreaking! Many a memories with that band back in the 90's :(

yeah so young :(

I remember the summer of 98 we were camping at Turkey Point, The hip were doing mystery tours that week, well it so happened that it was pouring rain non stop too. We stood inline in London at 6 am in the pouring rain to NOT get tickets, lol. That era was my Doc Martin, grunge, Pearl Jam, Hip, Soundgarden. Happy to be alive time! Best 10 years of my life. :D

Just a heads up to all my Canadian friends, I was advised today from the head of the bank of nova scotia they will no longer accept gambling winnings. If a wire transfer arrives, they will refuse it. And if any ewallet is used, that too will be denied.

I just had 3 withdrawals denied and told find another way we no longer accept this in Canada.

Great

Having an EcoAccount is a worldwide solution.Get their prepaid Mastercard and withdraw money where ever you wish.

You can also use it anywhere Mastercard is accepted for POS purchases which carry less fees. Never been as lucky as Jazzy but I have withdrew from an ATM and the fees were ridiculous. If you win a big amount like Jazzy did, it wouldn't bother you to pay those fees.

The fees at Ecopayz are actually not that bad, Neteller is much worse. Still the cost for an ATM withdrawal in a different currency is horrendously high with both, Ecopayz and Neteller.

Typically, i withdraw from the casino 30-50EUR more than the intended amount to cover those ATM fees. If I have a sizeable amount to withdraw that extra won't be much trouble as i always leave a small amount to carry on playing, hence only that is then a little less because of the extra i withdraw.

Ecopayz takes:

ATM fee: 2%, minimum 1.5 EURO or 2.2 CAD
Currency conversion fee: 2.99%

My last ATM withdrawal was 24th May 2016:

- Withdrawal amount - 10.000 THB
- Thai Bank ATM fee - 200THB
Total: 10.200THB equals 370 CAD or 390 AUD

Ecopayz Card is in EURO

Bank Exchange Rate: 10.200THB = 253 EURO
Ecopayz Debited: 10,200THB = 265 EURO

Ecopayz ATM withdrawal fee: 2% (min. 1.50EUR) = 5.30 EURO

Overview:

- Ecopayz debit difference(2.99%): 265 - 253 = 12.00 EURO
- Ecopayz ATM withdrawal fee: 5.30 EURO
TOTAL COST: 17.30 EURO

+ Thai Bank ATM fee: 200THB = 5.00 EURO
GRAND TOTAL COST FOR ATM WITHDRAWAL: 17.30 + 5.00 = 22.30 EUR or 33.00 CAD or 35.00 AUD or 8.5% of the withdrawn amount

CONCLUSION: Everybody in the chain from deposit to withdrawal makes us pay through the nose for our privilege to lose most of the times at the casinos. :o

Ha ha. Right on Harry.

For Canadians that are not aware like I was not, you can also use your Ecopayz for deposits at casinos. Yes, there is a fee but it is less then credit card companies charge and now credit card companies are refusing these transactions anyway. So, if you want to play at a casino that does not accept Ecopayz or Instadebit this is another safe option for deposit and withdrawal.

I would like to use Instadebit but it's blocked for me and they refuse to unblock it or allow me to make a new account or even tell me why it's blocked. It may either be due to inactivity or something from the past I unknowingly did. I'm forced to use PaySafe and withdraw to my bank and that eats into my winnings due to fees both ways. Really would like to use a new way of depositing come September.

Hi Brian. I had the same issue with Instadebit. They refused to even reply except to say my account was blocked. I went on their website and went on live chat and I was able to create a new account with a different email address. Their live chat is much more helpful.

Why haven't you got an Ecopayz card yet?

Good question. I should look into it. I only started gambling in European casinos in earnest in late October and PaySafe seemed more secure despite the fees. My bankruptcy period ends in two months and I'm hoping my bank will allow me to have a credit card with a fixed amount on it.

I went on live chat with Instadebit but it's still blocked despite them saying they removed it. I should talk to them again.

Ecopayz is more widely accepted then Instadebit. Both are good choices though. The thing I love about Ecopayz is once you load your card there are no fees to deposit or withdraw from casino. Should you have a big win (not ever had that problem) you will pay steep charges to withdraw via ATM or to your bank. But it's secure and it's quick. Instadebit is great as it is only $1.95 no matter how much you are withdrawing to your bank or how much you are depositing at the casino. Yeah -- I did have quite an ordeal with Instadebit but now that's it working I do like it.

It is getting more and more sketchy trying to do bank transfers. I am avoiding casinos that do not have Ecopayz or Instadebit because of it. I also found out though that you can use your Ecopayz as a Mastercard credit card but there is a fee involved. You just have to make sure the casino will withdraw back to Mastercard. Trada Casino have found a way around the banks so that is also a good option of you are looking for somewhere else to play so you could use your Eco card to deposit and withdraw back to the bank with no fees involved.

This could be why Instadebit don't want to unblock your account. Similar things happen here in the UK, nothing to do with casinos or gambling, but if there is a bankruptcy showing on someone's credit file, it can sometimes lead to refusals that don't make sense, such as where there is no credit facility involved. An example is that a bankrupt cannot even get a bank account that has no possibility of being overdrawn from some banks, but can at others. The ones that say no tend to offer a vague explanation and direct the applicant to the credit reference agency they used. It has been said that this is not because the customer might not be able to pay back anything, but because a bankrupt is a loss making customer because the bank CANNOT sell them any of the more profitable products, such as credit cards and overdrafts, until they are discharged from bankruptcy.

In your case, it might be worth testing this theory by trying again at Instadebit in, say 4 months - time for your bankruptcy to end, and for this information to spread to the credit reference agencies and other datasets.

I received a mail from trada saying that bank transfers are now accepted with their new option called megatransfer. Anyone knows what they were talking about? I dont even bother playing online anymore since winning is alreadt hard enough... I wont be annoyed with problematic bank transfers.

its basically a bank transfer to your account but with a new name instead of their old one because that was raising red flags.

I cashed out $380 on Thursday evening of last week. So 6 business days thus far and no money.

Will update when it either gets refused or accepted

Let us know which Casino and the Bank you are withdrawing from Lockinlove.....thanks! :)

I have more I would like to say here, but I have to tell you the Euro card has been great here. Cost me way less than the bank and atm withdrawals would have. Everywhere except one coffeeshop that was no cards has accepted it no problem.

I met some Ecopayz reps at the Amsterdam conference, I am hoping to see them offer a CAD card in the future.

I have some contact numbers I did not have before.

Same with RBC, no issues so far, I wonder with Scotia if it will apply to ECheck (citadel), have you tried that? I just made a large w/d from Nostalgia and CR wouldn't let me wire transfer, made me use ECheck (which was cheaper anyway)

I have a few eChecks and iDebits with RBC, no problem.
Scotia and TD are the worst to gambling so far we have heard in the last few years on forums.
